First Base Takeaway

Sol and First Base are like a little (dangerous) package. Sol gets you drunk enough to crave fatty carbohydrates in the early hours of the morning and LO, BEHOLD here is First Base right next to the exit ready to feed the hordes before the taxi’s home.
I’m ashamed to even be writing this and I am sure that I would never eat anything from here if I were sober but they do a nice chips, cheese and gravy. I remember one particular time a few years ago I had spent some time in uni in London already and was lamenting the lack of late night takeaway places which did this northern speciality.
A friend and I shared a portion — normally half a portion of chips does me well enough and plus the extras I end up throwing a lot away. But this time we sat there on the pavement sharing whilst everyone else ordered their food … And just had to get up, get back in the queue and get another portion between us. I don’t know why that makes me laugh so much but it does.
I’m going to go one night and take loads of pictures of girls with mascara down their faces scoffing pizza and guys walking into things. Stay Classy, Bury.

A pretty cheap and cheerful food outlet, providing pizzas, kebabs, burgers and chicken dishes. The pizzas are actually pretty decent quality, in some ways better than the more expensive Dominos or Pizza Hut, but if you’re after a healthy meal, this is not the place to go — the food can be a bit on the greasy side!
The staff are efficient and telephone orders are generally delivered within half an hour, which is on the good side for a takeaway of this type where a 45 minute wait seems standard.
Portions are good, the kebabs in particular are good value at just 3 – 4 pounds. Pizzas range from 4 pounds for a basic 9 to 8 or 9 for a fuller family size with multiple toppings.
As with most places, meal deals are on offer, for example there’s currently a garlic bread, pizza and drink offer for 7.99, which is reasonable!
