The Cuban

Good food, AMAZING cocktails (some of the best I’ve had in Canterbury) and it’s a nice place to sit in too, very colourful and warm. I’d definitely recommend paying a visit, though maybe stay away from it in the evenings when the student nights take control and the youngsters descend. The queues for the bar can get a bit laborious and you may find yourself being so squished in that you’ll wonder whether that’s your hand or someone else’s.

Eaten here a few times. Great cocktails, great tapas and goods value for money. The transition into nightclub can be annoying if your inside but we eat outside mostly and you don’t notice.

The food here is great, as are the cocktails, though be prepared to wait a fair while for drinks at the bar on weekends.
The live music is always good and the dance floor is usually buzy but not overly so you can salsa the night away.
The only downside is that the price of cocktails are expensive for a university town.

the restaurant aspect of the cuban was good. we had a voucher and our bill was halved. then came cocktails, and they are very expensive. the atmosphere is enjoyable, the staff were friendly. The bar is small and always crowded, however its different and can be a nice change to usual nightclubs in canterbury.

Quite good food of a daytime. Cocktails are good too. Too long a wait at the bar of an evening, and bouncers who seem to forget good and regular customers. All-​in-​all, fairly average. Expensive too.

Am frühen Abend gibt es Essen, am Abend gibt es leckere Cocktails (eine echte Seltenheit in Canterbuy) und nach 8 legt die Musik (oder Samstags band) los und es wird getanzt. Eine sehr schöné Bar/​Club/​Restaurantmöglichkeit mitten in der City von Canterbury. Man trifft viele junge Leute an, aber es ist nicht so Studentenüberlaufen wie viele andere Orte.

I’ve also now eaten there and the food is very good. They have a decent selection of good restaurant food. I had half a chicken and it was succulent and tasted wonderful.

Compared to the chain of Cubans in London, the one in Canterbury actually looks quite nice, is very spacious inside and gets very busy on a weekend evening for drinks and dancing. Four of us went there for dinner, we had a few tapas that were decent. The orders were grilled pork, rib-​eye steak, a fillet steak, and I had the lamb ajiaco.
My dish was fine, the other two liked their grilled pork and rib-​eye steak, but the one who had ordered the fillet got a tiny piece of steak, and the waitress tried reassuring him that it’s because the steak shrinks when cooked. He had ordered it medium, so the steak shouldn’t have «shrank» that much, and his wife’s rib-​eye looked huge compared to his fillet steak, looked at least 2.5−1 ratio, though the rib-​eye was 10 oz, and the fillet was supposedly 6 oz. He thought it tasted good, but then the chips were undercooked. At the end of our meal, with a plate full of chips, he made a complaint to the waitress, and she came back with a 10% manager’s discount on his fillet meal.
The thing that annoyed us was while we were in the middle of our meal, the staff was beginning to remove the tables and chairs from the center area, presumably where the dancing would be. It was still pretty early in the evening for dancing, and there were other tables where patrons were still dining at the edge of the dance floor like ourselves. We thought they could have waited for everyone to finish their meals before rushing to set up the dance club. The Cuban here seems poorly managed, though they do have good tasting mojitos and seem to pack out the place later in the evenings for drinks and dancing. For Canterbury, I’ve heard it’s one of the few places that serves decent cocktails. However, due to a supposed incident involving a finger and an ice crusher, their drinks only have ice cubes and not crushed ice, which is a shame for the mojito cocktails.

This is a really nice mexican resturant and bar in the heart of canterbury, located on the main high street over the road from Game store and near Pizza hut.

I have been here a couple of times on Saturday nights. The food is great and being veggies we still find a great choice. The food is mainly tapas style with a cuban/​mexican twist. They also have a great cocktail menu and do great mojitos!

I’ve only been here once on a Saturday night and thought it was great. With most late night venues in Canterbury being, well let’s say, less than sophisicated at weekends, this place oozed a bit of class. I particularly liked the fact the people were happy to get up and salsa and the atmosphere was great.
However, points are deducted for the price of drinks which has put me off going back. I literally could not afford to buy a round in there!
Maybe a good place for special occasion, or if all sense of spending goes out the window after a few drinks.

You need some serious £££ if you want to get drunk here. don’t get me wrong but it is pricey. You will need money in wallet/​purse. some lovely food sold here too!
