The Social Club Function Hall

It’s hard to rate places like this because it’s difficult to screw up delivering a service where you offer booze and a place to sit and chat.
The price for booze is just above acceptable for the quality (even if your a member). I only come here because it’s next door to the place I work.

Imagine this… music-​responsive disco lights jerking awkwardly about, cool 70’s reggae playing out of the speakers, every now and then the music is interrupted by the DJ shouting «Taxi for Mr and Mrs Jones». No one is dancing, everyone is sitting around the round tables, kinda as though they’re waiting for a wedding speech.
I love the time warp quality of the social club and this function hall, part of the larger social club with bar and sports facilities has the classic social club vibe.
The evening that I visited the hall a beer fest had been organised. The stage was decorated in hops and a fabulous selection of real ales was lined up at the back of the room.
What amused me the most was the occasional doctor striding in, in full garb and making a beeline for the kegs, taking a slurp of the beer and walking straight out.
I think there should be a preservation order on places like this!
