History
Established in 2010.
The Duck Inn was originally built in 1747 as a cottage and later in 1886 became a beer cellar belonging to George Roast, and served the local agricultural community. The Inn passed ownership to William Bowtell & stayed in the family for 3 generations before passing to a lady that even now the older residents of Newney Green & Writtle remember and talk about — Mrs Porter.
The pub is now in the ownership of Damon Godding, a local caterer who grew up in the village of Highwood. The aim of Damon is to restore the Inn to the traditional country pub it was renowned as in past days.
