Lemon Tree

went here for lunch with my sister. nice place to grab a bite, the décor is nice, feels very upmarket and classy, small inside but not in a bad way. we had the fixed lunch menu for 10quid each, and there was a lot of choice on the menu it was great.

I had lunch here today and it was just lovely. Great ambiance: quiet but jovial. The waitstaff were attentive and helpful and the food was really tasty. I had one of lunch specials (red onion and applewood smoked cheddar tart with salad and skinny fries) and it was really tasty. The Eton mess was delicious! I would absolutely recommend this as a nice, mid-​priced restaurant.

I organised a meal at the lemon tree for myself and a group of 16 very important people and to be honest I was very disappointed with the level of service received from the staff. The food was very good, when we eventually received it. Everyone ordered the food at the same time working down the table, the first few not wanting starters just ordered their main course immediately caused a problem with the staff as by the time the last few of us were placing our orders and wanting starters, were told by the staff that because not everyone was wanting starters it would be too difficult to serve starters to some and make the others wait whilst the starters were being finished! Next came the staggered service of the main courses, I unfortunately was the last person to receive my main course, which came out incorrectly. Not only did this come out when some of the group had almost finished theirs but as it was wrong I was made to wait another 10 minutes until the new dish came out. By this stage I’d completely lost my appetite. We complained throught the whole experience and the staff did very little to help and to make matters worse we were made to pay the full price for the food we had ordered. Extremely disappointed and will never return to the lemon tree again!

I have only recently discovered the Lemon Tree and definately wont forget it in a hurry — it was so good i went back again the next day!
The atmosphere is warm as soon as you arrive and you feel like you are really welcome to be there — as opposed to an interuption or inconvenience as some places unfortunately make you feel like! The staff were very attentive throughout and were more than willing to answer our questions and offer a little of their own expert advice.
The menu has good choice and seems to cater for most peoples tastes, six of us on the table and six different main courses shows that i guess.
Although i have not yet been, i am looking forward to the next theme night to see just how well this fantastic restaurant carries it off… keep up the good work1

The Lemon Tree is without a doubt the best restaurant in Colchester. They have very talented chefs and a wide variety of excellent food. The atmosphere is lovely, with outside seating and tables in the cave room connected to a real roman wall which can also be hired out for private dinners/​parties. They have a range of themed nights, including Switzerland night and Bastille night with themed atmosphere and cuising. They also hold Jazz nights which are very popular. There are excellent offers on during the weekdays with two main meals for the price of one, and regardless of that the prices are cheap anyway. They are also very involved in the local community, often holding charity nights, the most recent of which was a Hells Kitchen night pitting two teams from the local newspaper and radio against each other which was an excellent night for all round and raised a great amount of money. Highly recommended.

Very nice small restuarant. Wide menu which is always changing. They often do special Jazz nights which are woth going to. They have a small cavern which is very cosy, if it’s a special occasion it’s worth asking if you can have a table in there.

A rare find in Colchester. A very pleasant restaurant with a nice outside terrace, good service and reasonable prices.
