Upton Barn & Walled Garden is an exclusive wedding venue set in the heart of the Devon countryside and features a beautifully restored walled garden, which is home to our oak framed arbour and is licensed for civil ceremonies. We have just restored our Cider barn which is licensed for ceremonies.

Upton barn and Walled garden is located in the grounds and beautifully maintained gardens of Upton farm, our family home which overlooks a large pond and fountain offering an abundance of exquisite opportunities for photographs.

History

Established in 2013.

The land at Upton, meaning ‘Upper town or Higher’ has been owned and farmed by the Down family since the early 1930’s. Upton Farmhouse was built in 1676, when the barn was originally built as a cattle shippen. It then evolved into a cider barn with the introduction of it’s own cider press. The old cider press is long gone, but the stunning oak barn still remains with its contemporary extension.

The walled garden was created as the kitchen garden for the farm, but over the years it became disused and deteriorated becoming overgrown. Both the barn and walled garden were crying out to be used again, so In 2012 we decided to renovate the Cider Barn and Walled Garden and bring them back to their former glory for future generations to enjoy for weddings and celebrations.
