History

Established in 1946.

Arthur Hayes Optometrists was founded in 1946 in South Norwood, London by newly qualified Arthur Hayes. He specialised in eye examinations, children with eye defects and developed an interest in the new «Contact Lenses».

This led to a practice devoted solely to the fitting and supply of micro-corneal (hard) contact lenses in Croydon. The practice had it’s own facility for making and adjusting lenses on site — one of only three in the country.

We computerised our practices in 1987. Our newest technology is an OCT machine which has revolutionised earlier detection of ocular conditions such as glaucoma, macula and retinal changes. Technology, however, is not the whole story — the person behind the instrument is the most important part.

We are a small group of experienced optometrists and look forward to seeing you in one of our practices and to give us an opportunity to share in your continued eye health.
