Monsoon

As a guy I actually like Monsoon. I personally don’t come in here and try on the prom dresses (although you bet I would if I could get away with it), but it has always appealed to me.
This probably has more to do with how put off I am by most of the other high street shops. Bland, easily replicable styles, that consistently copy each other in an attempt to generate fashions so easy bucks can be made. I walk past H&M or even GAP and although there are some superficial differences there’s very little variation except for quality of material and that one pays less wages to its slave children abroad.
Maybe this doesn’t sound like an opinion coming from a fashion expert, but the day I become one of those is the day I give up on every meaningful aspect of my life. But from a layman’s point of view, I get bored by most cloth shops. Monsoon, at least, stands out. Its always seems two things to me, very colourful and very elegant. Those aren’t things we see much in current woman’s fashion, unless its vile 80s retro primary colours. Monsoon draws me eye with some genuine appreciation of their styles. This is all probably because of its original influence from ethnic clothing and boho-​chic, avoiding the neutral vapidness of most clothing (though I too am equally guilt of falling into this).
I can see what the others say about this being more for older women, but I for one would still appreciate this on the younger lady. I know girlfriend appreciates Monsoon, even if its from afar. It doesn’t help that its a little on the pricey side, but so are all half decent quality clothes shops that don’t make their clothes from the tears of sweat shop workers.
At the end of the day Monsoon is just another high street clothing chain, but its one I think stands out just a little.
Note: Monsoon is supposed to at least use fairtrade cotton, which is true is a plus.

To me Monsoon has always fallen into two catagories:
–Nice clothes for housewives
–Nice prom dresses for teenagers
That’s it really! I would never buy anything from here yet, its all very Stepford wives, and the embellished beading present on pretty much everything puts me off. Although I can certainly see the appeal, and an older woman dressed in stuff from here always looks lovely.
When I was at High School, if you had a prom dress from Monsoon, you were cool and had a few pennies to spend. They are beautiful, but pricey, and I can’t justify spending £200 and above on a dress that a 16 year old will wear once and probably vomit down.
Nice but a few years ahead of my time yet!

I really like Monsoon, they have very classy fashions and brilliant accessories. When I was wee I used to come into this shop and try on all the fancy ball-​gown-​esque dresses but never buy them, so this shop brings back fond memories!
But I just don’t really choose to shop in Monsoon. To me, their clothes are crazily over-​priced and their accessories are daylight robbery! But now and again you do find something (like a hair clip) that you are willing to pay £12 for, or a dress you can justify spending £120 on.
It’s quite a niche market in a way, very organic and very natural. Some people love that, and I understand why. If you have a fancy event or something special coming up, or just want to have a ‘good’ outfit, it’s definitely worth a look.

There’s no denying that this is a shop aimed at the older socialite. Everything in here seems to be for going out and more on the occasion wear side — it’s certainly priced that way.
Nothing that can be considered as «in fashion» but that’s purely based on the fact I’m not their target market.
In the middle of Princes Street it’s not far out the way from anything in tiny Edinburgh city centre so if you’re 45, busty, have spilled a whole bottle of wine of yourself while you’ve been drinking within usual shop opening hours — this could be your savior.

I’m really not a fan of Monsoon so perhaps a little bit biased in this review, I find their clothes overpriced, shapeless and bland. I’m still often drawn in by their window displays or if I’m looking for a dress for a formal occasion but I always leave feeling rather uninspired. I saw a kaftan the other day for £70 and it actually looked like something my Gran would wear… £70? Come on! If I had a lot of money to spend on clothes… which I don’t, I certainly wouldn’t be spending it in Monsoon.
The layout of this shop is nice though everything is well organised and they have a gorgeous wooden staircase with rot iron banisters but everything about the clothes just scream mumsy, frumpy and boring. I guess the saving grace is the fact that they often have good sales on where you can get as much as 70% off items.

Lovely shop, particularly good for dresses but they also sell other clothing and homeware items such as picture frames. They have a great selection of evening wear and day occasion dresses (depending on the time of year). The staff are friendly and although the dresses here are not cheap they are of high quality and are not overpriced. The changing rooms are lovely with each named after a different city in the world and complete with handy hooks, a stool and a large mirror. I rather like the staircase there and it is great to go into on a rainy day, as it is joined with the neighbouring branch of accesorize.

Monsoon is a lovely ladieswear and childrens clothes shop. It also stocks wedding dresses and bridesmaid dresses. Its a great place to go if you need a prom dress or an outfit for a wedding. Some of their clothes can be a bit pricey but they are really nice. The shop which is on Princes Street is really small and is over two floors. It can be a bit of a nightmare to find your way round at a weekend and is really not good if you have a pushchair as there are stairs down to the floor below and also a couple of steps on the main floor too.

monsoon specializes in formal and semi-​formal wear. the staff are quite helpful when youre looking for an outfit for a particular event so dont hesitate asking for help.

Not a big fan of this place to be honest. Last time i enetered the store the staff were uninterested and not friendly. I find the pricing ridiculous too considering the quality/​quantity of some of the products!

Monsoon is a nice shop, the one on princess st is a nice size. good fashion — I love the dresses in this shop must buy one for christmas. They do great clothes and bags aswel. the staff are friendly. it’s a reliable shop.

I like Monsoon but this shop is a bit small and can be quite dark. I ussually get annoyed at bumping into people or stands.
However, the product is lovely and the staff are nice. It is easy to locate.

I just wish this place were bigger! Because it’s a bit compact, things are a little crowded but it’s a good store with original clothing. The staff are friendly and the clothes aren’t toooo expensive (though not cheap!)

This is a great Monsson it is small but excellent I got my Nieces flower girld dress here and it was lovely the staff are so helpfull and friendly will definately be shopping here again

this is a good shop with great quality stuff. their things are very pricey though but if you have a good budget its worth a visit.

This is a fantastic store in the heart of Edinburgh, predominantly wonan’t fashion but they also specialise in Wedding, Bridesmais’s, footware and home ware. they have a fantastic range of lighting too… the clothes are all excellent quality and fairly reasonably priced for what you get. They sell up-​to-​the-​minute styles as well as more traditional styles. It suites all ages and I woudl recommend a visit. They also have storecards.

I love going to Monsoon to buy dresses, particularly the one on Princes Street as the staff are really helpful and always give their true opinion. It is quite pricy (as all Monsoon’s are) but there are often sales. The kids section is really good value and I often shop there with my auntie for my baby cousin’s clothes.
