The Real Scot Shop was terrific! I purchased kilts for my granddaughters and all but one fit perfectly. I’d love to reorder a kilt for the one that didn’t fit. Please let me know if there is a way to get in touch from the US. Can’t recommend it enough.

The Real Scot Shop is slightly less garish than a lot of the tourist shops in Edinburgh. Selling what looks like real tartan kilts as well as sporrans, it seems like it makes an attempt to get the traditional culture of Scotland just right in its stock.
As Steph said, they stock some classier gifts that would be fitting for a formal present, or something tasteful for your gran. But they also have a range of slightly tackier souvenirs if that’s what you’re looking for.

Apparently this is the Real Scot Shop, as oppose to the less real ones that line the Royal Mile in an absurdly annoying manner.
Once you’ve seen one, you have seen them all, although I did notice this one managed to avoid the tack quite well. As well as tea towels, mugs, tartan dog coats and the likes, they have gifts made from Scottish sourced materials like a lovely set of grey slate coasters that I noticed for £20. It strikes me as the sort of place you could come and buy a present for your mum or gran in, without being a tourist.
A nice wee shop which is a little less gratingly touristy than the others on the street!
