The shop specializes in science toys and equipment. Some are unique as they are designed and made in house. All aim to teach a little science while the child makes and plays.

History

Established in 1998.

The Science Sleuth Shop was opened in 1998 in Stockbridge, Edinburgh.

It was a unique science toy shop selling a wide range of goods from small pocket money toys to large self assembly robots.

It had a Try-Out table just inside the door for folk to see if they liked the toy before buying.

Ever Saturday there was a Science Workshop for kids age 7+.

Then the parking wardens made me decide that a web shop would be a better retail outlet.

In 2008 the Science Sleuth Shop closed its retail outlet and opened online.

I have had time to work with the Edinburgh Science Festival in creating make & take kits for their Generation Science Workshops.

They are selling well to schools and youth group all over the UK.

However I do choose great science based toys to sell to you too.

You will also find some simple science equipment to help you create toys yourselves

Meet the Business Owner

Anne G.

Business Owner

I studied in Broughton High School and the Heriot Watt college (as it was then)

I trained as a school science technician and worked in school science departments for many years.

Got an Open University degree and went on to work in schools and science festivals as The Science Sleuth.

I taught science to primary school children through first telling them a story which set a problem for them to solve. Then demonstrated the equipment they would use (picking up water with a pipette or wiring an electric circuit).

Then groups of kids would work out the solution to the problem.

A very rewarding career so I opened my shop in Edinburgh.

An now in the UK.
