Yes social bite does great things for homeless charities and homeless people around Edinburgh. This in itself is a reason to support social bite BUT you need to go here because the food is great, staff super friendly, prices are in line with the quality of the food. Basically this café /takeaway is the best in the surrounding area and it has the bonus of being an all round good egg.

Social Bite is an excellent initiative, as many people have already commented. Like any café, it serves a selection of sandwiches, soups, hot drinks, salads etc. The difference is you can also buy an extra item or two which will later be given to a homeless person who needs something to eat. On top of this, any profits the place makes will go towards good causes related to the homeless. I visited with my mother and sister, and between us we had a sandwich, noodles, crisps, water, rocky road, and hot chocolate. The food was largely good, apart from the noodles, which were watery and disappointing. Hot chocolate was excellent, and had a Christmas Tree crafted into it. Excellent! At the end of the meal, we also purchased a soup and sandwich for a homeless person. The staff were all friendly and helpful. I understand many workers here were themselves homeless in the past. I can see why George Clooney visited Social Bite recently. The place is excellent, and clearly committed to its good work. 100% of the profits go to the homeless, the food is good, and the staff are very nice. Check it out.

Social bite is such a great idea, locally sourced & freshly prepared foods to sit in or to go, I probably wouldn’t mind paying more just knowing that 100% of the income goes to good causes. I’ve only been to this one once and have had it bookmarked to return. On my visit I had the homemade soup with a chicken wrap to sit in, and what I had was tasty, filling and very good value for money. They have a loyalty card and for each item bought you get a stamp.

I think Social Bite is a great idea in practice. The food is good quality, locally sourced(as far as I know) and the business goes towards local charity. I have been here twice now, and the food has been great. The first time I had a chicken curry that was the special of the day. It was a big portion size and I probably wouldn’t have complained if it was bigger since it tasted so good. Most recently I took advantage of their lunch deal: soup + sandwich or wrap + piece of fruit for only 4.95. My chicken fajita wrap was tasty, but I most enjoyed the carrot and orange soup… so good.

Pret is leading, social bite is copying and… sadly just following ! It’s time to think for yourself instead of waiting for pret’s next creation… only for you to attempt copying it… again! Boring boring boring

Really lovely place to grab a bite to eat while walking Princes Street. Great service, and everything on the menu is well-priced for the quality you receive.

One of the most amazing places I’ve been. 100% of their profits go to charities! The food is extremely tasty and excellent value. I had a vegetable curry and my husband had a Mexican chicken dish; both were very flavoursome and hearty portions. We also happened to pop in on a Friday which meant we were given free coffee/hot chocolate with our meals. We spent less than £10 all up and were very satisfied! I would strongly recommend everyone to visit this little gem in Edinburgh!

If you’re looking for a simple lunch or breakfast in Edinburgh, this is the place to go. Not only are the sandwiches delicious, but they give 100% of their proceeds to charitable causes in Edinburgh and around the world. They serve local products and make an attempt to be an environmentally friendly restaurant. They are very supportive of the community. On the counter, they have a basket in which you can put change and money and all if it goes to provide sandwiches for the homeless that need something to eat. I put 4£ in and the cashier explained to me what the money went to. I just wish I had more to give! Another wonderful thing they do is give opportunities to those who need them– they proudly display that 1 in 4 of their employees are previously homeless. I can’t think of a better place to get a meal and give back to the community at the same time. I just wish other cities would follow suit in this wonderful idea.

How could you not love that all the profits go to very worthy charities and they are actively making a difference in the Edinburgh community. I’ve been here twice now, once for a pulled pork wrap at lunch time and once for a(eek — slightly hungover) breakfast bagel. The wrap was nice, the price was reasonable and the ingredients were certainly fresh. I learnt about the idea behind Social Bite for the first time and it certainly warmed the cockles of my heart. The second time I came was quite early in the morning and despite there only being one other customer, it took about twenty minutes to get a breakfast bagel made up. This made me a bit late to work which wasn’t fantastic and the bagel was pretty heavy on the grease, but I got given a lovely salted caramel cookie to make up for the wait. Very sweet little touch! They are working towards a very admirable cause and by buying lunch from here you are helping them to make a difference. Not your average sandwich joint!

Excellent chicken pie, mash and beans for only £4.50. And all profits go to charity. Can’t do better than that!

I wish other cities around the world would take their cue from Social Bites — they manage to serve really wonderful food at decent prices and to give all their profits to charity, so you also feel good about spending your money here. We had a really wonderful lunch — husband had the ploughman’s sandwich with carrot soup, and I had the chicken pie with mashed potatoes and lots of good gravy. Both meals were delicious, flavorful, and hearty. We ate in the square(forget the name, near the Scottish portrait gallery) and were really happy to have found Social Bite – if we had been staying longer in Edinburgh, we would have had lunch here again.

Social Bite give 100% of their profits to charity and provide job opportunities for those in need — frankly you shouldn’t need a better reason to be going here if you’re ever in need of a sandwich in the city centre. Sandwiches, paninis etc are all delicious, and along a similar line to Pret in terms of choices and price. They’re not cheap, but they’re not outrageously expensive and at least you know your money is going to a good cause. They do excellent pies too, which come with peas, mash and gravy, and I’ve noticed they now have a cereal bar too for anyone hungry at breakfast time. Good food and good causes.

I’ve been meaning to visit this place for some time now. It is basically a sort of sandwich shop/café, but as they state on their website: ‘But the main difference between social bite and the rest is that 100%(every single penny) of profit goes towards solving social problems. This is not a token gesture. This is not a PR spin. This is just a different kind of business. A business to help others. This is a Social Business.‘ So I went here today to do my bit and get a saintly lunch! They have such a wide range of delicious sounding salads, wraps, sushi, noodles, paninis, sandwiches, and hot food. I chose the Chorizo, Pear and Manchego Cheese panini. The staff were absolute sweethearts and the panini turned out to be absolutely delicious! Unfortunately, just after I bought my panini I noticed their pie menu on the wall and had major food envy. Their pies so absolutely mouth watering, but that’s OK, it just means I have to go back soon to try one! :) I paid slightly more(£3.99) than I normally would for a panini, but the ingredients were delicious and fresh and off course my money was going to help others so I am more than happy to pay a bit extra! I strongly recommend this place and I’ll be back there very soon. They also offer loyalty cards which is a good incentive to keep going back.

If you work in the city centre this is a top choice for a quick delicious lunch, and apart from from best pie and chips I’ve had in a long time, all profits go to good causes. Ingredients are locally sourced and freshly prepared while you wait. My favourite as I said is the chicken pie, mash and peas, it’s great value considering the portion size and taste. They also offer a loyalty card where your tenth lunch is free, so it makes perfect sense if you buy your lunch in every day. A top choice on Rose street and one I think everyone should support, especially considering where the profit goes.
