I’m not a big fan of Thornton chocolates but it’s a good place to go to buy gifts for friends. I didn’t have enough time to waste so I ended up Here to get one if my friend a box of chocolate. This is one of their main stores so you can get various specialty chocolate box. In addition to selling box sets that you can get from tesco, you can buy ice cream and ask the staff to wrap your box of chocolates or personalise it. The staff has always been nice and helpful.

It was my mum’s birthday the other day so I popped in here for her favourite Viennese truffles in the Continental range… although if truth be told I’m still secretly hoping that she’ll share them with me as they’re my favourite too. In previous reviews about Thorntons I’ve mentioned that I had a brief Christmas temp job in one of their Glasgow branches when I was sixteen and after sampling pretty much everything on offer my favourites are still the truffles and the alpini bars — they’re just so addictive. This branch is well stocked with all the favourites and if I don’t go for my usual I’ll often be tempted by their range of chocolate lollipops more often than not on offer at 5 for £2 — bargain!

I hope it’s just me, but for some reason today’s Alpini bar wasn’t quite the taste sensation I was expecting. It was nice and all, but I’ve had a penchant for their Alpini chocs ever since birth, and there was something about this one that didn’t quite cut the mustard. I hope to god Thornton’s aren’t scrimping on the ingredients as a result of the credit crunch, the stingy old dogs. Anyway, I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt this time, as perhaps my tastebuds were a bit damaged due to the roasting hot, and tasteless, panini I’d just shovelled in.
