Union of Genius is Scotland’s first soup café. Each day, we serve six fresh handmade soups using locally-sourced ingredients. Each soup is served with flavour-matched artisan bread from an Edinburgh bakery. We stock locally-baked gluten-free, vegan cakes and snacks. Our coffee is from Artisan Roast and we have a range of hot chocolates from Edinburgh’s finest chocolatiers.
Most of our soups are naturally gluten-free and we always have veggie and vegan options available.
Our packaging is compostable, and we run a loyalty scheme offering points for any packaging returned to us for composting — The Cyrenians compost all our food and packaging waste.
Passion for flavour and a smaller environmental footprint. It’s a union of genius.
History
Established in 2011.
The business started through my lifelong love of cooking and developing interesting flavour combinations. Minimising waste and living a greener life have been passions of mine for years, and they became central to the ethos of Union of Genius.

Business Owner
Art college dropout, bookshop manager, geologist turned soupmonger. I specialise in career handbrake turns, but I can make a reasonably sensible narrative from them, given enough time and Rioja.
