Very nice gastro pub, had the chicken liver for starters as usual, always have to ask for more toast but that’s ok, you just seem to want more and more :) then had the lamb which was fantastic!!! Will return again!

My wife and I have made this our new regular go to spot! We are in love with the atmosphere provided, the staff’s generosity and knowledge/confidence in the menus, and most of all we are tremendously impressed with the superb taste and over all elegance, structure and presentation of the food! The serving sizes are more than enough for the price you are paying! I would venture to say that this is the best restaurant I have ever eaten at in the country of England, and I do not forecast that decision changing! Weather you want a beautiful dinner for two, breakfast in the morning with a great cup of coffee or tea, or you want to bring a massive party in for catering, the Merry Monk is sure to make you leave feeling full, happy, and satisfied. If you are like myself you will leave thinking and planning about your next visit and how fast you hope it happens!

A fine dining restaurant in a very small village! Delicious food and great service. I definitely enjoyed the service and unique menu.

This is just a superb little pub that has the ability to cater for lots of people should the need arise. We have been there several times now and have never been anything but impressed and satisfied when we came away. Food, staff, atmosphere is all terrific as you would expect. We are going to have our after wedding celebration here in June this year as we liked it so much. Adrian the chef /owner is a great down to earth guy who will do anything for you so you get exactly what you expect from the day. As for kids meals, we did ask, and yes it’s the usual chicken goujons or fish fingers, but these are made with chicken breast and fillets of cod, not reconstituted cr*p. The food here is without doubt about quality, that is not to say that presentation and portion size has been compromised in any way.

Outstanding menu — service ok but struggling on a Saturday night. Long wait for dessert and coffee. Seafood was superb.

My husband and I went here for our date night and boy am I glad we did because we almost didn’t. We booked our table which I recommend as it gets pretty busy. We started with a bread platter that was to die for! I am a bread fanatic and these were all homemade and fresh and still warm. Fabulous. Our waitress then brought us a complimentary Amuse-bouche which was a pureed soup and was very nice. The atmosphere was very relaxing and romantic. Our mains arrived and looked breathtaking, I almost couldn’t stand to dismantle it. I ordered the Filet which was cooked to perfection and sat beautifully on an amazing peppercorn sauce. My husband had pork and it was also just perfect. The waitstaff were attentive and friendly and it was just an amazing experience. Hands down the best meal we’ve had here in the UK thus far. It is pretty expensive, but well worth it. I also asked if children were allowed and they said yes though I wouldn’t take my 3 year old in there. There’s just nothing on the menu suited for her or that I’d want to pay for anyway. :)

Hidden down a side street the Merry Monk is a great find. Parking is at the back of the pub. You can eat at both sides of the bar — and the food is very good. I had lamb shanks and they were delicious. The portions are generous and the prices were reasonable. Having also visited as a large group they catered for us very well and the service was good, all the food arriving together and hot. They had no problems providing plates for a birthday cake at the expense of us forgoing pudding. In summary — definately worth a visit!
