Gastro pub on the green across the road from the racecourse. Fine if that’s what you are looking for. Not my favourite Epsom pub.

Rather disappointing and expensive. This is the first time I have eaten here but my girlfriend has many times. The starters were fine but when it came to the main course I ordered lamb which was tough, very fatty and undercooked. My girlfriend ordered a Vegitarian pasta dish which was dry and hard. She left over half of it. Don’t think I would rush back. Dinner was over £40 each.

Again more sad reports of «Expensive» regarding value for money from secret shoppers.

Can’t say I’ve been looked after better for a long time. Service excellent, food great Italian influence, and taste. Value for money all round and the manager has his finger on the pulse! Six of us booked for a birthday celebration and the girls serving looked after us superbly. I, personally don’t live in the area but will use The Derby Arms when next we visit our relatives.

We went in here because the«Rubbing House» across the way was looking too busy and were glad we did. I would be hard pressed to fault the place, the building is nice, the décor is good, all the staff were friendly and helpful, the selection of beers was surprisingly good(only two«real» ales but I do like Timmy Taylors Landlord so that was OK) with an impressive selection of premium lager like things(I’m including Erdinger in there). The food wasn’t cheap but I would class it as good value and my partner said the mussels were excellent. The seating area outside was clean and well presented and all in all I would recommend the place highly. Though maybe not on a race day if you want a bit of peace and quiet :-) Oh, and we left a t-shirt on the back of a chair, didn’t notice till we got home(80+ miles away, not going back for it) so I rang to ask how much to get it posted to me. The girl who answered had seen it, knew about it and said they would just post it to me for free. Now if that’s not service…

The Derby Arms is a historic pub situated right across from the famous Epsom Racecourse grandstand. Although recently refurbished, you can sense the history when you walk in and there is memorabilia of famous Epsom Derby races scattered around. It’s not really a convenient pub just to pop into and so, I’m judging the Derby Arms on its food. Following the refurbishment, the menu has been slightly revamped but somehow, it all feels a little corporate now. The food feels safe and a little boring. Maybe worth popping into if you’re in the area looking at the grandstand and racecourse but the food isn’t worth travelling for. However, there is a little gem. About 30 seconds drive away, in the nearby golf course car park, you can park up and see right across London — planes landing at Heathrow, Wembley Stadium’s arch etc. A stunning view on any night with fireworks as you can see them go off for miles and miles.

I personally can’t see what all the interest in this pub is. The times I have been there the service was average at best, and the food when it arrived had obviously been sitting on a hotplate in the kitchen waiting for some unwitting customer to order it. People go on about the location, but if you’re looking for a drink or something to eat on a race day forget it, unless you’ve got plenty of time on your hands or a part of have reserved off an area of the place(you can definitely write off Derby Day). If you’re looking for a drink after a ramble on Epsom Downs by all means this pub is OK, but if you’re looking for something to eat, try elsewhere and then walk the Downs in your own time

Now that it is refurbed and not part of a big Chain the Derby Arms is well worth a visit. The new décor is beautiful. and at last it has a stylish equine theme given its setting. The menu is unusual, changes regularly and very tasty. It is a bit more expensive than the other pubs in the area but worth it for originality. Well done! Oh, and they don’t mind us outdoor types going in with our muddy shoes on unlike the pub accross the road.

You definately need to visit this place if you want a great meal — especially good if you don’t fancy cooking Sunday lunch go to this place and try theirs — its fantastic! This place is also child friendly in the restaurant. I would recommend ringing them to book a table.

The Derby Arms is a lovely pub/restaurant both in the Summer and in the Winter. It is situated in a beautiful location upon Epsom Downs and the food caters for all. Their steak is particularly good. In the winter the fire warms the whole place up making it cosy for a nice drink from the bar after dinner. In the summer you can sit out in the gardens. The busiest time of year is when the Epsom Derby races are on and every crowd to the Derby Arms for lunch and for a drink.
