Often pop in for odds and ends like HP sauce plastic bottles, Flan cases, and other items not found at the Centres shops.

I actually have been and brought some groceries here at last. It is enourmous, perhaps not a monster store, but large enough to get lost in! Wanted some shucky peas, that is the ones in the pods, got the last 2 packs for £3. When I got home I wanted to see if they held up to the ones I get in the market, Well on an estimate on around 50 per packet only 5 looked like passé partou, and some peas were miniscule, yet I suppose for the price overall, passable. The peas came from a farm in Wiltshire and seemed to be mechanicallly harvested. Must be popular at least!

This Sainsburys supermarket has just had a major renovation and extension this year. It has made a world of difference to the shopping experience. The shop has physically got larger but it also feels a lot more spacious. Besides the food section, they’ve added sections for clothing, homeware and entertainment. They’ve also revamped their seafood, butchers and bakers’ counters. For example, I was intrigued to see mussels available fresh on the rope still in water. There are a variety of ways to pay — at a cashier, self scan and a novel method I’ve not seen elsewhere — you pick up a hand held scanner which you carry round the shop with you and scan items as you go along. At the counter, you pay what it says on the hand held scanner. They do random spot checks on this method to make sure people are being honest about what they’re scanning. The Starbucks which used to be on the ground floor has shut and there’s now a large café on the first floor, seving meals all day. 2 minor gripes — they’ve stopped selling rootbeer and sometimes, there aren’t enough cashiers on.
