Located near the Thames off the Kingston Road(sort of Surbiton/Thames Ditton I guess) I have visited and eaten at Raintree restaurant 3 times. The food is always splendid: far more authentic than the generic Bangladeshi cuisine in city centres that the UK public have come to associate with«Indian» food. Meats from the tandoor are superbly seasoned and moist. Curries are full of flavour and have true character rather than being all«samey». The side dishes tried on last visit: okra, daal, tandoori roti and rice all truly excellent. Costs is cheap to reasonable. My only real criticism is that the place is a bit dead(never more than 2 or 3 tables occupied), which is a shame as the restaurant deserves a full house rather than a few loyal regulars… Thoroughly recommended.

Haven’t stayed there but the resturant had very good reviews on taste of London so tried it last night. There’s a very small car park around the side, and a public car park just across the road from that, so there’s no problem parking. Although it’s easy to get to by car, public transport would be intermittent even though it’s on a main road. The restaurant itself is clean and the décor very modern. The place had one other customer at 7:30 on a Thursday evening, and while we were there another couple came in, so not exactly rammed to the gills. I don’t know when they opened, but it used to be a general restaurant, and must have been bought out and turned into an Indian in the last year or so. We ordered a Chicken Rogan Josh and a Chicken Karachi(possibly wrong spelling!) which was excellent. We also had a bowl of Pilau rice which was huge, and a garlic naan. The naan was thinner than other Indian restaurants I’ve been in, and was a very pleasant change since it wasn’t as «doughy». I also order a Keema naan(bread with a lamb filling) to try it, which was also thin, slightly crispy and the best I’ve had. Prices are fairly reasonable, but since I had a taste of London card, that gave us a 2−4−1 on the mains so bought the bill down even more. I’m definitely going back there on another night to see how busy it is, because I can’t understand why this placed isn’t packed out

No A/C. Wireless only worked on the ground floor. No outlets in the bathroom. No easy fix if you need something since no one on site. The major hit was Just after having long day out and wanting to hit the sack I discovered blood stains on the pillow. Maybe this was karma getting me back from all the hotel sheets I’ve destroyed in the past, but that was definitely a deal breaker for me. I checked out the next day. Had a minor issue coz I prepaid for a week, but was able to bail with the manager promising to give me a refund. Place a little out of the way if you’re using public transport. No reason to go back there. On way out the door, random employee asks for my phone number so he can order some electronics from the states and have me ship it to him.
