A recent renovation if the old Treetops hotel, the Sparrowhawk is a gastro pub on the Southport old Road between Formby and Woodvale. The setting is wonderful; tastefully decorated with a pleasant, intimate atmosphere and attentive staff. The menu is interestingly diverse and the food prepared to a very good standard, the venison faggot starter is particularly good, as is the rhubarb and ginger jelly dessert. The wine list is a little on the pricey side, but is well selected and they do some of the wines by the glass, with interesting monthly specials. Price-wise, it’s about mid-range gastro, about £30−40 per head, but the ambience and food are great, but more country hotel than scampi and chips. Overall highly recommended.
