Usually love this place but felt it hasn’t been as nice as previous trips. The honey mustard chicken which is always my favourite was a bit bland and overlooked. The patatas gratinadas was really flavourful and rich and the calamari was lovely but batter all crumbled and fell off and the garlic mayo dip wasn’t as nice. On Sunday it’s three tapas and dessert for £14.99 and I love the cosy feel of the restaurant. Just a bit disappointed this time around!

Can’t question the authenticity or the vibe of the place, and the menu and staff simply add to the experience, but just being on cresswell lane is always a good time. Would recommend, as with any Tapas place, to just order something from every section of the menu and you’re bound to love something. For me it was the mussels. They were perfectly prepared, and the portion size can be described as ‘healthy’. No complaints.

Staying in Glasgow for the weekend, we tried Café Andaluz on Friday evening but it was fully booked. We booked for the following evening and ate at 7pm. The café is in a basement but doesn’t feel claustrophobic — it’s low lighting and dark furniture are cosy and intimate. Our waiter, Ewan, was great — friendly and informative and he could pronounce all the Spanish words on the menu much better than us. The food itself was delicious, the baked goats cheese with chili marmalade was, to quote my daughter ‘life changing’. We each chose 3 tapas and it was more than enough for us with a basket of olive bread too. Whilst I do like tapas, it can be a bit on the expensive side; £5 for a small bowl of chickpeas and parsnip seems a bit excessive.

I’m a huge fan of the Café Andaluz on Cresswell Lane. It might sound odd, but I much prefer than the one found in the City centre. The décor and the atmosphere just makes everything ‘taste’ that little bit better. My friend and I booked a table here on Saturday night and yet again, this restaurant did not disappoint. We started with bread and olives(huge portion of bread which was great because we were ridiculously hungry) and we then ordered three tapas dishes each(Note: this is where I get a little boring because I always order the same things, haha). I opted for the Albondigas(lamb meatballs in a tomato sauce), Patatas Bravas and my favourite dish of them all: Goats Cheese with Seville Orange Marmalade. All of our dishes arrived promptly and tasted delicious! Our waiter… bless him, he was so lovely! I think he may have been new because he seemed a little shy and reluctant to approach us at times but he was so friendly and really appreciated our efforts(I say ours, what I really mean is my friend) to speak Spanish! He kept glancing over(from a distance, not in an irritating watching our every move kind of way) to make sure we had enough water, drinks and that there were no empty plates. He definitely made us feel really looked after which we appreciated. Café Andaluz desserts go down as some of the best I have found from any tapas restaurant in Glasgow. The Crème Brulee is delicious and is one of my faves! The meringue with raspberries and cream was crunchy, yet soft and marshmallow like on the inside — heaven! We ordered coffees as well and my cappuccino was pretty good. It was a lovely night and even though the restaurant was really busy, everyone that we could see around us was being very well looked after. I’ll definitely be back again soon, I love this place!

I went with some pals that wanted to try spanish food. It is alright to me but nothing exotic as I am spaniard, but let’s be open minded and see what do they offer and if it’s real spanish food. The place is quite cute… Andalusian and that(they should offer more southern Spain food… but that’s my opinion) They lost all the points for something I believe is a crime! Something that has made cry thousands of grand mothers in Spain… POTATOCROQUETES! Potato croquetes!!! I have NEVEREVER, ever, ever have seen a potato croquete in Spain!!! it’s lazy, it’s frozen, you can get them in farmfoods and they are NOT spanish! Also the chorizo in wine was bland and overcooked… I am not coming back.

I was wondering why they’ve got a relatively low score here, because the food is really good. I think I’ve figured it out. The prices are high, unless you catch a lunch or pre theatre deal, and the service can be incredibly slow. That said, if you go, don’t miss the patatas gratinadas — they are the best thing in the menu. The sea bass is nice as well as the beef(carne de res picante.) Well be back, but I think it will be during cheaper times of day — it’s expensive for evening meals!

I visited this location of Café Andaluz first with some girl friends and we couldn’t have enjoyed it more. The 3 tapas and dessert 5pm deal was amazing, the food was delicious and more than we could eat. As an added bonus the service was great, possibly the best I have experienced in Glasgow. I have since been to the other location in St. Vincent Place and was just as happy the second time around. I highly recommend this restaurant if you’re in the mood for spanish tapas, lots of vegetarian options too :).

I think I’ve probably been to Café Andaluz more times in the 12 or so years its been open than I have to any other restaurant ever. Tapas-style dining has always really appealed to me, getting to eat so many different tasty things in one meal, so anywhere that does it well was always going to be a shoe-in for one of my favourite restaurants. I’ve been to 3 of the Café Andaluz locations and the original on Cresswell Lane remains by far the best. My most recent visit was for a birthday lunch and we made the most of the 3 tapas for £9.95 offer, sampling some old favourites as well as a couple of new choices. Potatoes featured heavily with potato bravas and patatas gratinadas, and there was much discussion about which we loved more(the gratinadas squeaked it in the end). We also sampled the chorizo al vino, a beef salad with manchego, and some amazingly succulent pork cheeks. Rounding it off my absolute favourite the chicken in a light batter with honey and mustard. There’s so many other great choices on the menu too, I love the aubergine with cous cous as well as the albondigas(meatballs). Drinks wise there’s a great choice with a selection Spanish flavoured cocktails, good beer and a great wine list. The waiting staff are always happy to recommend wine and the house rioja is very nice. I also really love both varieties of sangria offered. Add to all this super helpful and friendly staff and you’re in for a great dining experience. I’m sure it won’t be long til I’m back again!

I had been in the mood for tapas and hadn’t had any(non-Indian) tapas in a while, so I was excited to go to Café Andaluz. Unfortunately, I ended up not being in a great mood the night I dined here, so I thought my negative opinion of the restaurant may have come from my mood and not the food. But my dining companion confirmed that no, the food was in fact quite disappointing. None of the dishes we ordered were memorable, except for perhaps the manchego, which was memorable in a bad way. I’ve had better manchego at Tesco, and that is no exaggeration. The service was also less than great. We ordered maybe five dishes. Three arrived and we ate them, knowing that tapas dishes don’t always come at the same time. Then the server cleared the table and we realized that they had forgotten our other dishes, so we had to reorder them. It was a disappointing meal overall. If you are looking for tapas in Glasgow, I’d keep looking.

Located on one of my favourite streets in Glasgow Cresswell Lane, Café Andaluz inside was nothing like I expected. Walking through the doors you are immediately guided down the stair into a spanish wonderland, think carved dark wooden furnitures, coloured glass lanterns, colourful scatter cushions and spanish tiles everywhere. On top of this there is spanish guitar music being played — Mr G described it as the Spanish equivalent of the irish pub o’neills, I have to agree it is kind of twee but I quite liked it. I think it is also worth mentioning that we were the first people in the restaurant for lunch and there was a bit of a bad smell, but it did pass once the restaurant started to fill up. The staff were perfectly pleasant. They took my order and brought me food quickly with a smile — no more really comment than that about the staff. Café Andaluz on a Saturday do a special Saturday menu offering 3 Tapas and a dessert for £14.95 which I think is a pretty great deal. I ordered a glass of rose to congratulate myself on a successful shopping morning and settled in to make my tapas selections. There were a few dishes I wanted to try but in the end I settled on the following 3 dishes. Ensalada Marroqui — Roasted sweet potato, parsnip & chickpea mixed with chopped parsley & coriander, topped with a sundried tomato dressing. This dish was delicious, the root vegetables were cooked really well and the chickpeas were big and soft. Chorizo y Butifarra Negra — Chorizo & black pudding sauteed in spicy tomato. This was a large dish packed with lots of big chunks of black pudding and delicious slices of smoky chorizo, the sauce was tasty and flavoursome. Pollo Rebozado con Miel — Chicken fillet in a crisp batter coated with Spanish honey & grain mustard. This dish consisted of 3 large strips of chicken freshly cooked in a light crispy temper batter and drizzled with a honey and mustard sauce. I enjoyed all three of these dishes and I would happily order all of them again. I did get the feeling that other than the chicken fillets that the food was all re-heated as there was a slight film across the top of the sauces that usually come from dishes being warmed again. This actually didn’t bother me as the food tasted good and it was only £14.99 for a 2 course lunch… so I have zero issues with it. I personally found the dessert menu a little uninspiring and opted to try the Caramel Cheesecake. When it arrived it was a giant chunk of made in house cheesecake served with some rather lovely caramel sauce which was light and super creamy. It tasted so good but was so big I was getting sick of it towards the end… I think this is definitely a dessert to share. All in all a lovely lunch, not the best tapas I have had in Glasgow but I liked the food and would happily go back again.

Brilliant service from our Canadian waitress(massive apologies for forgetting her name) Decent food but could cut back on the oil, overall too greasy. We’re in a party of ten so had a number of set menus that offered decent variety. Next time I would choose mainly seafood tapas as these dishes were undoubtedly the best and least oily.

It’s been a long time since I’ve had tapas, and I think the last time was in a Café Andaluz as well(in Edinburgh). I like the setting for this one, down in the basement it’s got a nice cosy feel to it, regardless of the weather outside. At this point I’ll apologise because we were already a few drinks in but I know that Clare did the ordering for us! Off the top of my head we had(and no I’m not going to remember the spanish names), black pudding and chorizo, chilli and garlic prawns, lamb meatballs, tortilla, a fish paella dish and… a couple of others. We also had a bottle of wine(the house red, very good!). The food arrived quickly, and disappeared about as fast! It was mostly all very tasty, with each dish delivering plenty of well balanced flavours. The paella dish fell a bit short though and was oddly bland, and the meatballs weren’t all that great either. Highlight: black pudding and chorizo in a spicy tomato sauce. The service was good, it was pretty quiet but the staff were helpful without overstaying their welcome, and knew when to leave us to it at the end of the meal too. It’s so nice not to be ‘reminded’ to leave by having the bill plonked down in front of you before you’ve asked for it. Why not 5 stars? Hard to say but it just wasn’t quite special enough to warrant that. A couple of the dishes fell short. Overall a nice place to eat, good location, tasty food and wine, and smiling friendly staff.

I would say that the food was as good as usual unfortunately to begin with the service was not after being shown to our table we were given a menu and ten minutes later we had to ask a server to offer us a drink whilst people at surrounding tables were being served straight away. The food however was up to the usual standard, I Pollo Rebozado con Miel Chicken fillet in a crisp batter coated with Spanish honey & grain mustard, beware of spilling it on your clothes I was a big sticky mess, although one girl gave me a wipe and another some soda water & a clean cloth disaster averted. Anyhoo back to the food, I also had Patatas Gratinadas, layered sliced potato baked with cream & mild Spanish cheese. Mmmmm delicious. The wee cuz had Pollo Romesco, Chicken thighs roasted in olive oil and garlic served with a tomato, chilli, red pepper and almond salsa, Ensalada Sevillana, Roasted beetroot, Seville orange & green bean salad topped with crumbed goats cheese & croutonsand but by no means least, Lubina con Vinagreta di Pedro Ximenez, grilled fillet of sea bass on a bed of tomatoes, basil & shallots dressed in a Pedro Ximenez sherry vinaigrette . All accompanied by a very nice glass of Temprinillo for me & a Rose for the wee cuz As it was Sunday the deal was three tapas & desert for £14.95 so it would be rude not to have the pud, wee both opted for Pavlova de Frambuesa, Raspberry Pavlova, and as it was a Bank Holiday weekend a cheeky wee cocktail each, Mojito for wee cuz & Raspberry Caipirinha for me both expertly made & presented Although we had a wee hiccup at the beginning the staff did apologize for there tardiness and afterwards were very attentive, it will not stop me returning

Very meh. Most of the food tasted previously frozen and of poor quality. Not impressed at all. Would not recommend this chain of restaurants to anyone. Does Spanish food a disservice as far as I’m concerned.

I’ve frequented café andaluz the last few weeks whilst exploring the west end, tucked away behind byers road but worth the venture, its a lovely, cosy wee place with great service! The fact they do cava cocktails is just a bonus. Staff are friendly, helpful & I’ve never waited terribly long for food, in which there’s plenty variety! Its all rather tasty & I’ve yet to discover something I didn’t like in there!

My friend was in town last night for one night only and we’d been to Café Andaluz before so we opted to book up again for a late dinner. The three of us arrived at 9pm and were seated in a lovely booth for four so we had plenty of room for our tapas dishes. After a lovely basket of bread and olives with balsamic and olive oil, we opted to choose nine dishes of Spanish tapas between us. Portions are quite hearty in here but we managed to get through them at a rate of knots! Dishes which stood out for me were the pork belly which was swimming in a barbeque style sauce, unctuous and delicious and mopped up perfectly with the bread. The gambas pil pil(spicy prawns) is a favourite of mine and didn’t disappoint, while the patatas bravas were good but I prefer them without the creamy topping. A jug of sangria later, we left sated and totally buzzing. Would recommend this place for both a couples night and a group night as the space is big enough to allow you enough personal space without feeling like you are in a cavern! I’ll be back again… and again.

Booked using the £13.95 «3 Tapas + Dessert Offer» which offers quite sensational value. The goats cheese + Seville marmalade was an unexpected highlight and the cheesecake was a very generous serving(I expected the dessert to be a token gesture). For the more sensitive souls amongst you I shall note that the service is a bit abrupt /cheeky. When a total of 24 plates are coming to 8 folk you can expect there to be a bit of confusion about what is going where — yet there was definitely resigned/sarcastic head-nodding from a loitering boss-guy when a plate found its destination, and a «well saying it in Spanish isn’t going to help» from a waiter…
