Exactly the kind of jewellers I hoped would come to Glasgow, as I usually have to buy this kind of jewellery online from sites like Tatty Devine and Punky pins. This boutique stocks them and more big names like Anna Lou of London. The jewellery runs along the same lines; funky, contemporary, colourful and acrylic. I bought my friend a telephone necklace for her 21st, which was a gorgeous little old style telephone with removable receiver. She loved it, and it made a change from the usual sterling silver and diamanté jewellery everyone else was getting her. It ranges in expense– Some of the larger Tatty Divine pieces are expensive, ranging up to £70 or £80, but you can also pick up unique necklaces and key-rings for under £20. A refreshing change from the bling bling atmosphere of the arcade.

The Argyll Arcade is a girl’s best friend… but only if you can afford diamonds. Which I can’t, and thus usually only utilise this place as a shortcut to St Enoch’s, or venture in on a vicarious voyage of make-believe with my boyfriend, who wants to romance me 1920s style one day. He bloody loves those hideous iceberg rings! I, on the other hand, am only vaguely interested in the massive rocks; knowing that they would break my finger if I ever wore them. So Jodie’s is an absolute treat for a laid back lady like me. Full of high end but seriously funky designers such as Tatty Devine, you can expect to find something entirely different to terrifyingly large diamonds in this basement suite. Expect to find rockabilly earrings in the shape of vinyl records, brashly fun jewellery and gum ball machine rings. It’s fun; and not stuffy like the rest of these shops can be. I commend Jodie for being bold enough to bring a place like this into an arcade that hasn’t really changed much in years. It adds an extra element and attracts the interest of younger generations who thrive on vibrant statement jewellery. It’s well made stuff so it’s moderately expensive at times, but you can find some rare wee oddities in here that’ll keep me coming back for more. My boyfriend bought me a rainbow coloured ring from Jodie’s that looks like a cross between a cake and a bouncy ball. Not only was it a bargain considering how pretty it is, it’s much more my style than some of the sparkly numbers next door. Call me crazy, but that ring from this cool jewellery store is worth just as much as some meteorite diamond.

Right in the middle of the Argyll Arcade, you will find Jodie’s Jewellery Boutique — which is a truly refreshing gem of a shop(please forgive the pun). Although there are items of jewellery on display on the main floor of the arcade, to truly appreciate this boutique you need to make your way down the delightfully pink spiral staircase and into the store. Downstairs you will find a beautiful jewelery store encased in sophisticated white walls, with a lot of pink thrown in for good measure. As well as Jodie herself, you’ll also find jewelery brands such as Tatty Devine, Anna Lou od London, Kleshna and Supercute. Plus, it might interest you to know that she also sells a range of jewellery made out of vintage biscuits. You know, if you’re into that sort of thing. The best thing about this boutique though is that it isn’t at all overpriced. Jewellery starts from under £20 — making this a great place for gift buying as well as the good old impulse buy. I was particularly tempted by a red necklace sporting the letter ‘K’ in red diamanté. Down in Jodie’s boutique you’ll also find some lovely handmade cards and a few other gifty bits lying about. This place id definitely worth a visit or three.
