Nancy Smillie’s is great for gift shopping, and it’s usually as Christmas is coming up that I spend ages in here seeking inspiration for that unusual gift. There’s a great selection of stuff from small pieces of designer jewellery and knick-knacks all the way up to large home furnishings, all with bucket-loads of designer chic. Prices vary from cheap to very expensive, depending on what you’re buying, but it’s great just to mooch around in here and be inspired. It’s much harder to escape without buying anything!

Nancy Smilie is a den of temptation, luring you in with its wonderful, tasteful and expensive looking jewellery. There’s many a local desiger displaying their wares in the cabinets so the choice is varied! You could say the shop dabbles in everything, from semi precious stone bracelet modifications in rich, aquamarine colours to some beautiful slender silver necklaces. I like the fact this shop gives local designers the opportunity to sell their work(it’s not just Nancy’s designs, though her own pieces are fabulous). But no matter which trinket tickles your fancy, if you were to purchase something as a present or for yourself you would know it’s worth lay in the money spent or even the quality, but the fact it was unique. The price range is wide but even if Nancy Smilie’s Studio has a glossy exterior, there are baskets and hooks which are adorned with affordable chains and bangles, but still with that rich, unique sheen which sets the bar above the chain store imitations. Additionally, the shop now sells a variety of prints and the occasional coaster. At the moment they’re selling graffitti artist Dolk’s work on canvas prints which is a nice touch to an already spiffing store. Nancy Smilie is a true Scottish jewellery institution and anyone should be proud as punch to own something from here!

Oh, this shop is just gorgeous. If you are, like me, a self confessed lover of all things beautiful — then make a trip to this shop now. I promise that you won’t regret it. Inside this girly paradise you’ll find a huge range of jewellery — priced from £10 to £100 and up. They also have hair accessories, bangles, handbags, umbrellas, cards, gifts, scarves, purses and probably anything else pretty that you could think of. Much of their jewellery is designed by local Scottish designers — which is great as it means that you’re buying really individual pieces. The service is also really friendly — which means you’ll soon be hooked!

A pretty little shop in the west end, Nancy Smillie specialises in jewellery, but also sells bags, crafts and gifts. It’s amazing how much they have managed to fit in here, and the tall glass cabinets combined with a central display table really showcase the jewellery well. There is also a small selection of gorgeous bags hanging along a low rail. The price range is huge, from pieces at around £500, right down to the £10 bangle I got for part of Maw’s birthday present. There are so many lovely things in here, and with prices to suit every budget, I have already dropped a couple of hints now that the Christmas season is drawing near.
