Pollokshields Library

Like many of the libraries on the south side, this one is more useful for being local than any great range of books. It has a good CD collection, an admirable range of books in all of Glasgow’s languages, accommodating the local community of Punjabi speakers and a few explicit graphic novels in the children’s section. The paperback novel selection is pretty extensive as well.
It has the usual computer access, but it is usually best to browse the on-​line catalogues if you ant anything specific: the Glasgow library network is becoming all about ordering from different branches these days. A wait of a few days can get you anything.
In the meantime, the comfy chairs scattered around the shelves make for a cosy stay: the newspapers are on the tables, a few magazines are categorised on the shelves. It does feel as if this is not being used as a dynamic study hub but as a waiting room for summer by the unemployed– which is probably why I can be found there far too often.

A tiny old school library. For the area you can’t expect a large selection of books.
Would be worth traveling to a larger one.
