Scotstounhill Railway Station

Scotstounhill Railway station is one of the smaller low level stations — but it meets is purpose perfectly. It’s only a couple of stops along from Partick Station — which is probably the biggest low level station in the West End.
It boasts very regular rail links with the city centre and other parts of the city — and is clean, welcoming and efficient. It even has its own little pick-​up car park and newsagents. (Perfect for picking up sweets and a magazine for slightly longer journeys…)
The only problem with this station is that it seems a bit of a walk from just about anywhere, and, as some of the reviewers have pointed out, it’s not the safest place to walk to at night. Keep this in mind!

I would warn against walking to Scotstounhill Railways Station alone at night as the westbound platform pedestrian path is seriously secluded. I have done it a few times I have been in a rush and have always internally scolded myself for being so daft.
The station is handy for Scotstoun Leisure Centre which is a five minute walk away.

One of the least interesting stations on the local line, the main entrance to Scotstounhill is located in an extremely barren stretch of Anniesland Road. Although the area is not particularly unsafe, caution is urged when visiting here late at night as it is very quiet.
A handy resource for those residing in Scotstoun and Knightswood, it is serviced by trains on the Argyle and North Clyde lines, and also has a newsagents situated beside the Anniesland Road entrance for snacks and newspapers.

Back in the dark days, this was my other rail option along with Westerton. It was equally far away from my flat, but involved a more pleasant walk so possibly edged it as my preferred choice.
It’s located on the edge of Jordanhill in fairly leafy surroundings, but seemed to always suffer from a distinct lack of passengers. I hardly ever saw anyone else waiting here, despite trains stopping by every few minutes.
My favourite part of the Scotstounhill experience was the walk through Knightswood park to get here, a place far more scenic than the squalid dive of a flat I was marooned in nearby.

Scotstounhill station lies just off a side street from Danes Drive, making it only a short walk from Scotstoun Leisure Centre. It lies on the Argyle and North Clyde lines, meaning one can travel on SPT services to Balloch, Clydebank and Helensburgh to the west, Glasgow city centre and Airdrie to the east, and Motherwell and Lanark to the south.
I found that to get back to the city centre from this station there wasn’t even much point planning out your journey with a timetable, such is the frequency of the trains. There is a train nearly every 10 minutes, with roughly every second one to Queen Street and the others to Central. So like Partick station, your best bet is to just turn up at the station and get the next train you see.
The station is very quiet most of the time, though probably a good but busier during the rush hours. It is also handy that if you are getting a train back to the city centre if you look down the line towards Clydebank, you can actually see oncoming trains stopping at Garscadden station a very short length away, so you get plenty of warning of your train arriving. But beware, it is not an island platform here so if you’re running late for the train you may have to hot foot it over the footbridge before it leaves!
