The Big Candy Store

I don’t usually bother with shops like this but wandered in on a whim. It could be that I was in the right mood but I liked this shop and it was fun browsing all the sweets, who knew there were so many varieties of Skittles? I usually avoid these sweet shops because they seem a bit fousty and I suspect the goods have been lying around for years. This place seemed really clean and was very neat and tidy.
They have everything in here from novetly sweets for kids (of any age), lots of soft drinks including gigantic cans as big as your head, chocolate bars, an entire section of Reese’s products, Pop Tarts, Jelly Belly and your good old fashioned gums, boiled sweets and lollipops. I used to do regular Cybercandy hauls and there were still plenty of things in here that I’d never seen before. I think this is a fun place to pop into once in a while.

One of the weirdest shops ever if it’s not here next week, it’s two doors down and in a months time it will be across the street, it’s the same company they just constantly move as if it is a tax dodge.
If they where to close for good I don’t think anyone would ever notice.

I came in here to get my favourite American soft drink that these types of stores usually have. I asked «Do you have any cold Pepsi Throwback?» He didn’t look like he knew what I was asking for. Looking at me like I was the 2 heided monster. So I then asked «do you have any Pepsi throwback at all?» He said no. Meanwhile. The security guard was up the back oblivious to the world around him, texting away. While half the shop could have been robbed.

I’m actually quite shocked that this place is open, let alone has been open long enough for me to notice it was there. These places are a dime a dozen and I’m not even sure how they manage to survive as long as they do given the extortionate prices for things I know are fraction of the costs in the states.
My boyfriend and I popped in here before meeting up with friends on Easter sunday to see if anything was different about this shop. It’s basically the same as all the other American candy stores. Overstocked, over priced and I walked out without buying anything because like I told my boyfriend– there’s nothing I miss that much from the states that would bring me to pay as much as they ask for in these shops. (Especially when shops like Poundland and TK Maxx have started stocking a few American goodies!)
My family is visiting this summer, so I’ll ask them to bring a few of my favourites with them. I managed to dodge the glares of the shop staff and snapped a few inside pictures.

Another day, another new sweet shop opens in Sauchiehall Street.
Theres a great selection of American candy, chocolate and snacks all of which are guaranteed to leave you with a sugar high. Giant jars of childhood favourites like soor plooms and sherbet straws looked appealing, but as usual with me its the chocolate that has the most appeal. I was drawn to the chocolate nibbles — which look like rabbit droppings but are in fact the most yummy combination of caramel, chocolate and icing sugar with some nuts flung in for good measure.
Some of the American treats were tempting but at around £2 for a single bar I didn’t part with my cash. I was the only one in the shop at the time and felt like I was being glared at the whole time. Not the friendliest of welcomes, and this certainly didn’t tempt me into buying those overpriced treats.
My advice– look out for American/​foreign treats in bargain shops (think B&M), and head to the Savoy centre for some bargain sweets. As luck would have it I came across those choc nibbles in retail bags 2 for £1 on the first floor (where theres a lovely wee family run sweet bargain stall!)
