The Project Cafe

I’m not sure why I have only been here a few times, their food and coffee is beautiful and their ethos is very social minded.
They have free decorative bottles of water out for you to take to have with your coffee or food, and the cake range is big… super tempting and many vegan friendly. I was only in for a short work meeting today so didn’t have food, but a strong and delicious Americano hit the spot perfectly. The staff are really friendly, and conveniently will create you a table ‘tab’ if you are there for a while so you can just pay at the end.
It is a creative space, decorated by lots of artwork and has a laid back and welcoming feel. The notebook by our table said «share your thoughts.’ the first one said ‘this is my favourite café’ and another page said ‘no it’s mine!’- It seems that I’m not the only one to appreciate the Project café!

This was my first time back in a long time, and I somehow managed not to give in to all the alluring nibbles on the counter.
My coffee was good, the staff are always friendly, and there was a good vibe for a grey Saturday.

I haven’t been in Project for a long time (and I was quite a regular while studying), and so decided to go back to have some coffee and cake. They’ve changed the space a wee bit. The menu looks a bit more clear now and there’s no more couch! Still like how comfy and homey it is. Now that the suns out, it’d be great to sit outside while having a cuppa tea or coffee!
Unfortunately, I’m taking down a star because my recent visits have been a bit underwhelming. I don’t remember the staff members being so grumpy/​having such frowns on their faces! I can understand that you’re tired (as we all are) but, I suppose a simple smile towards all your customers makes a difference, no? I don’t like it when people look so miserable while welcoming guests to their café! Such a confused signal you’re sending out!
Also, I waited like 15 minutes for my caffe latte (because I knew the staff forgot about my order) and when she realized, there was no apology. Agree with Nicola’s statement about how overly chilled out the place is. There should really be some sense of urgency when serving your customers!
Anyway, regardless of the frowns and head-​in-​the-​clouds, I still like this café. They still make good vegan food, cakes and coffee (albeit the coffee is on the stronger side). And it’s true that it’s overly chilled out place which I do love, but it can be both a good thing and a bad thing. Such a conflicting opinion but that’s really how I feel haha

You could play a game in Project Café where you have to guess who works there and who’s there for lunch. It’d be a lot harder than you think! — We stayed here for several hours, and staff continually floated about, spending time behind the counter before grabbing a chair to chill with some food. And vice versa.
I found myself at Project Café because I was looking for a space with food, tea and wifi; the fundamentals of a truly productive lunch. I can’t quite say I was working since I was booking a holiday with a friend, but we felt really at ease, with tea and food for the few hours that we spent here. So, I do imagine it’d be a nice little spot for a solid afternoon of nailing whatever it is you need to get done. Order yourself a nice power lunch. — You got this!
The Project Café is bohemian cool, and it will definitely appeal to the creative folks most. At one point, the guy who was serving behind the counter popped outside for an impromptu half hour of guitar practice, just because. So, it is a really relaxed spot, which makes for a pleasant afternoon hang out. Although, the same applies to the service; it too was super relaxed. — Nobody greeted us or showed us to a table when we arrived. We sat down for a little while before realising that you order at the counter.
I ordered the apple and celeriac soup. It had a really interesting flavour; not your average soup. Whilst it was a little thin for me, (personally I prefer thicker, blended soups) I definitely enjoyed it. There was a generous amount of seeded wholemeal bread for dipping, and a few whole nuts in the soup itself. — A quirky addition if ever I tasted one. But it worked, and definitely gave a nutty, savoury twist to the dish. Because we were there for quite some time, I also had a salad bowl a little later, with a mix of two of the salads since I couldn’t choose. I have big love for anywhere that accommodates to indecisive folks like myself, who, if allowed, would have a teeny little bit of everything. So I was able to have two salads in one serving. — Topped with homemade parsnip crisps, this was a lovely little snack to tide me over till dinner.
Also, chai latte = yummy. Not syrupy or overly sweet. — Just a lovely blend of spices and chai tea with frothy steamed milk; just the way it should be.
If you’re looking for wifi and lunch, and somewhere to spend the majority of the day, Project Café’s just waiting up on Renfrew Street.
Oh, and, the CAKES! They look scrumptious.

So I took a wee trip to Mandors and before I rounded the corner I could smell the most amazing food. Happily, the mouth watering aroma only grew stronger as I neared the fabric store, and I noticed the newest café to set up shop next door. Determining to pop in after I made my purchases, I happily went to pick up my goods.
By the time I was entering the café I was famished. I scoped the place out and was heartened to see loads of fresh veg for sale, a bookcase full of eclectic choices and a piano in the far back. The lovely waitress was very patient and informative as the daily menu hadn’t been put up on the chalkboard wall yet. I decided on a mix of 2 delicious looking salads, carrot and kale quinoa and roast garlic and nut quinoa. I asked for a side portion of the tasty looking hummus and finished with a bottle of cloudy apple juice. I went to sit down and noticed around the back of the kitchen was a pop up trade shop, full of lovely wee bits and pieces. Customers were encouraged to take, swap or donate!
The lovely waitress brought over my salad and oh… no words could adequately explain how tasty I found this. For what looked like a small portion I actually struggled to finish it, and I’m a big girl! You know that way you know you’re full but it’s too awesome to waste? (This might explain my big girlness ;p) the apple juice was fresh tasting and thirst quenching, I could’ve bought another bottle for the road, but I wanted to leave the change I had for the tip!
After eating I checked out Unilocal for more reviews and noticed a few people talking about the awesome toilet. Intrigued, I went for a look — worth it is all I’ll say! On exiting the loo I ended up chatting with the owner who was adding stock to the swap shop, and I told her the different ways she could use Unilocal to promote her business. She too was incredibly nice, and I assured her I would be back soon.
All in all I feel I’ve found a wee pocket oasis deceptively close to the hustle and bustle of Sauchiehall. The fact that it’s just next door to Mandors is an added bonus! One star off because I didn’t get the chance to see the full menu (it didn’t start until after midday), but I’ll no doubt update this when I do!

I’d actually visited here once before for a Locavore dinner and remembered it yesterday when I needed a working space for a couple of hours (with food, of course). I arrived just after 1pm and I honestly didn’t expect it to be nearly full, there was only one table left. Thankfully someone came over to clear it for me.
I popped to the counter to order some lunch — the menu has lots of lovely-​sounding veggie options so I went for the full plate at £6. For this you get one thing off the specials menu, 3 salads and dips. I went for spanakopita and the rest of the plate was filled with lovely salads like beetroot, carrot, cashew and lentils, as well as two lovely dips in the middle of the plate. It was a really good sized portion which I actually couldn’t finish so next time I’d get something a little smaller I think!
The café has a lovely vibe to it with people working away, playing guitar, catching up with family and generally relaxing. It would make a great spot to work for a few hours as well as it’s handy for the top of town. On my way out I spied a great selection of cakes which I’ll investigate further next time!

The Project Café is a good sized café with plenty of tables and a couple of sofas too. They specialise in vegetarian food and offer a menu of soups, salads and interesting veggie snacks like buckwheat crepes, tortilla and spanakopita. They also have a nice selection of cakes.
I had a buckwheat crêpe with leek and cheese and a piece of spanakopita which were both tasty. I think the best idea is to order a couple of things from the menu like a piece of tortilla with a salad. The prices weren’t listed so it wasn’t clear that the salad options are only £1.50. The soup bowls looked generous and came with bread and butter. I’m looking forward to going back to try some more dishes.
The atmosphere is relaxed and the café is bright and airy. I won’t say why but you should definitely visit the toilets here!

Brilliant vegetarian café with daily changing specials, outdoor seating and a bit of an off the beaten path vibe. A nice thrown together vibe that is a welcome change from most other city centre cafes.

With minor tweaks this could be a 4 star or higher
Project Café gets many things right — I had a Quesadilla and Cous Cous salad which were absolutely delicious. Staff are friendly and personal despite being incredibly busy when I visited. It’ also manages to be a very relaxed, informal place — even when it’s packed out (as it was on my visit).
It’s hard to knock anywhere when its run on sound principles. Nevertheless I have to deduct stars for one reason — I had to change my order several times due to items being unavailable. I found this especially surprising as the menu is rather small (normally a good sign).
Initially I was going to be more generous as I thought Project Café was very new and experiencing some growing pains. However I’ve marked down as it’s been open a good few months. By this point Project Café should have a good understanding of its typical customer numbers; popularity of dishes etc
Would I return? Definitely — I want Project Café to be a great success. With this issue addressed I’m confident I would become a regular

Stumbled upon this «Berlinesque» Café gem.
I’m not sure how long they’ve been open but I’m thinking pretty recently. I’m not even sure whether it’s a pop-​up, or a permanent fixture? It does stock Locavore Community Interest produce, so may be connected to this not-​for-​profit company? Oh, and it looks as if it caters specifically for vegetarians, which is no bad thing :-)
Anyway, my thoughts… This bright, haphazardly styled café-​come-​organic deli is a free spirited delight that could quite happily grace the back Straßen of Prenzlauer Berg. It’s fantastic and I can just imagine it brimming with Art Students supping the Mushroom and Wine soup that was on offer. Although, on the Sunday morning we graced it with our presence it was full of OAP’s — probably disappointed Mandors the next door fabric shop was closed. They seemed to approve though :-)
Another visit soon for those freshly baked hot cross buns :-)
