The Tiki Bar & Kitsch Inn

When we arrived for a midweek meal we were a bit worried that the place was empty, even the bar area downstairs seemed to have only one other group enjoying a drink. However, we’d booked a table, so we headed upstairs to take a look at the menu. Fortunately it wasn’t too long before a few more groups arrived, and I’m certain it must get busy at the weekends.
We started with a few cocktails. I can particularly recommend the Big Bamboo, but it’s quite strong! Or group of four ordered the prawn tempura, the chicken satay ayam, the fishcakes and the salt and pepper squid. The tempura was perfect and I’d go back just for that. The fishcakes were also great and had a really unusual (but good) texture.
For mains we ordered a couple of Beef Massaman curries, a Thai Red curry and a Thai Green curry. All came with generous portions of jasmin rice. This food is why I wanted to come here — I’d never eaten Thai food in Glasgow before. Naturally, that makes it hard to compare to the competition but what I can say is that it sets the bar really high. Everything was delicious.

The Kitsch Inn forms the first floor space of this ever-​popular Glasgow bar on Bath Street. The cuisine is Thai and, not being far from the office, I decided to treat Mrs G to an impromptu lunch here last Feb (nothing to do with Valentine’s day, I hope you understand!).
We were greeted by a very friendly waiter/​barman/​duty manager who showed us to the table which was already set up with water and some tempting Thai crackers and dip. These were delicious and a perfect way to whet the appetite!
Kitsch Inn offers an «Express Lunch» menu which is £8 for two courses (correct as at August 2015). The menu is not massive but offers a decent choice and I would far rather a smaller choice of quality dishes than 100s of mediocre ones! The courses come together on a platter thus presenting the opportunity to dip in and out of each one at your leisure.
I chose the Crispy Prawn Tempura as a starter and the Thai Green Curry for my main. The tempura came with a sweet chilli dipping sauce and some crispy leaves. The batter was nice and light and contained some tasty, juicy prawns. The dipping sauce complimented them very well and resulted in a lovely starter which was finger licking good.
The curry was served with basmati rice and garnished with fresh chilli and coriander. The flavours were coconutty, fresh and spicy with a hint of lemongrass; it was lovely! I used the rice to absorb every last bit of flavour from the bowl.
Mrs G decided on the Chicken Satay Ayam to start, followed by the Massaman Beef Curry. She absolutely loved the chicken skewers, which were served with a peanut sauce and chilli and cucumber relish, and hovered them up (she is partial to a satay…).
The Massoman Curry was also well received with succulent beef which was deep with flavour, spiced perfectly, and complimented the peanutty satay very well.
So, overall, a very tasty last-​minute lunch which we both very much enjoyed. At £8 the price point is great for a work lunch and it would be suitable for a place to take clients.
We’d definitely go back and don’t hesitate in recommending it!

Went here with my mum, as we had been before.
We were quite early for Saturday dinner. Managed to get the £13.50 for two courses pre-​theatre offer.
Just want to say how helpful and lovely the staff are here. My mum and I were going to order a glass of wine each but it worked out better (money wise) to order a bottle.
I wanted king prawn tempura and my mum wanted Spring rolls, but again the lady serving us indicated that we could get the Thai sharing platter at no extra cost as we got a few different starters to share.
Starters were utterly fabulous and I don’t know what my favourite would be, because they we so good. I love food piping hot as well, which it all came as such.
I had chicken phat Thai as a main and my mum had sweet chilli chicken. Both equally fab as well. With the chicken phat Thai — not spicy if you don’t want it to be — there are chilli flakes and nuts on the side if you want to add more.
No dessert for us because we were stuffed. Not rushed to finish our wine, which was also lovely. Nice atmosphere here and I love the kitsch retro décor.

Came here for dinner. Enjoyed good service but the food was average and the the place felt dirty. Wouldn’t come back again.

I love love looooove Tiki Bar!
I love the theme, I love the cocktails and I found out a few months ago that I love the food too!
So let’s start with the theme — what could be better than kidding on you’re somewhere exotic and scorching, particularly when Glasgow tends to be the opposite? It’s got loads of interesting things about the place and I always notice something different each time I visit. The music totally fits as well, it’s a really nice place to chill out!
The cocktails. Ohhhhh my. They do make a mean White Russian (one of my favourites) but their cocktail list is so extensive that I think anyone would be able to find something they like! They certainly aren’t weak either, and while some of them may appear to be a bit pricier than in other places, they are definitely worth it! One of my goals is to visit and have one of the really expensive ones :)
And now for the food. Holy CRAP the food is good! We visited as part of the lovely Eilidh G’s Cocktail Trail and I got the tempura prawns and then the pork fillet dish, both of which were so very tasty. I mean, I had consumed a fair amount of alcohol before this point, but I doubt they’d be any less delicious if I went in sober! And at £13.50 for 2 courses with the sweet, sweet Unilocal check-​in deal, it’s also seriously good value for money.
I’m pretty certain I’ll be back here before too long — the only downside I can think of is that it is slightly further out from the centre, which is probably why I’m not in here more often! (Probably a good thing for my bank balance/​liver, mind you.)

Popped in for a quick drink and sat outside in the small but ample beer garden. We were served quickly… there’s an amazing choice of cocktails but today I opted for soft drink.

I love the décor in here, is it tacky, yes, but it just kind of works. From the music playing, to the TV in the back playing ocean scenes (think Hollister), to the tiki bar and the tiki man statue.
The cocktails don’t come cheap, around 7 – 8 quid, but they are oh so good. To the point where they taste like juice and not like rum. (Or maybe I just can’t taste rum from my times spent drinking rum when I sailed.) The menu is pretty extensive and the bar itself has loads of different spirits, so you could easily ask for a twist. I had a mai-​tai and 2 scarlett sunsets. Both were very fruity and filled with ice.
The reason this is a 4* and not 5* is the lack of cool glassware. In the images on the cocktail menu and from other posts on instagram, they had really cool tiki based glasses for serving. Although, given how busy it was on a Friday night I can imagine this is the reason! Having said that, I did get a cocktail with an umbrella in it, so I can’t complain!

Before I write anything else I vow to return here to both sample the food and to have a better sense of what I’ve ordered.
Safe to say that my first visit here won’t be my last though, I’m a sucker for a Tiki bar and walking in this place didn’t disappoint, all the usual hallmarks of wonderful tackiness are evident.
But we were there for cocktails and I can confirm that their Mai Tai is wonderful, not too sweet, and with enough of a kick to remind you that you aren’t just drinking a soft drink!
I’d love to write more, and tell you about the cocktails my friends have but… well I can’t because.
Cocktails!

I’ve been to The Tiki Bar for cocktails a few times but only went recently for food. I went with a friend to sample their express lunch menu, which is 2 courses for a very reasonable £8.
We sat down and ordered ourselves some cocktails — a coconut grenade for me, which comes in a big cup shapes like a coconut and is so delicious!
I ordered chicken satay for a starter, and chicken with chilli jam for a main course, but here’s the twist — the courses came at the same time! The «express lunch» means that your main course comes in a bowl, and your starter on the side. I was surprised but it works, and its great value for money.
The chicken satay was tender, but crispy on the outside with a slightly spicy, peanutty sauce. The chicken with chilli jam was pretty fiery and not for people who like their food mild, but it was full of thai flavour. Go for the cocktails, stay for the yummy and well priced food!

Fast and nice service, great Pad Thai and Mango Pana Cotta. Ambient music and comfort sitting. Great place.

Being honest I was not sure what to expect and also was a bit unsure whether I was going to like the tiki bar for food. I had been for drinks before and thought it was fine, but had yet to taste anything from the menu.
It’s a strange sort of place. Other reviews have described it far better than I can. My summary of it would be would be that décor wise it’s a weird mixture of South sea islands and Hawaiian styles. (Maybe that’s the same thing, I ain’t sure) They have slightly risqué pictures of ladies on their menus alongside guys in Mexican (I think) wrestling masks. They serve thai food and loads of cocktails in strange glasses.
Hopefully that conjured up some sort of image for you. Probably slightly confusing, but that’s because I don’t think this place fits into one particular bracket. On to the good stuff. They have a huge cocktail menu and I am told they are great. They also do mocktails and fellow diners confirmed they were good. Thankfully for those (like me) who are not in to either mock or cock versions, there are beers on draught. I had a bitter and twisted, but they normally also have toasted oak ipa, sadly they were out of the i & g that night.
Now the superb part. The Thai food was bloody great. I had calamari to start which was a huge portion. It had a lightly dusted coating of batter and came with green Mayo. It was cooked to perfection. For mains I went with a massaman curry and rice. It was rich, flavourful and indulgent. I thoroughly enjoyed it and thought the beef and potatoes were cooked really well.
To summarise I would say it’s a good place for a meal or drinks. Somewhere a bit different, but doing great thai food. Certainly worth trying if you have not been yet.

I don’t quite think I’ve been to a themed restaurant as devoted as Tiki bar. Flat out Tiki fun from the onset and an impressive cocktail menu to boot, Tiki Bar is just the place for Thai food and cocktails. Seriously, there’s a Tiki haven just waiting to be found on Bath Street and you should pop on down to experience the joy that is the indoor palm tree, an almighty collection of large Tiki heads and that irreplaceable feeling of drinking from a coconut.
I’d heard snippets about Tiki’s impressive cocktail menu and just couldn’t wait to try it for myself. What’s that you say… You’re not in the mood for alcohol? Or you’re driving? Fear not, the Tiki bar staff will whip you up any of the cocktails alcohol-​free. — I loved that I got all the frills of ordering a cocktail when I chose the coconut grenade in mocktail form. — The shaking of the shaker and the pouring of interesting bottles which peaked my curiosity; all the excitement of a delicious concoction coming to fruition. The cocktail magic unfolded as I sat perched at the bar, until… ta-​dah, ladies and gentlemen: one coconut grenade. It was delicious and refreshing with notes of passion fruit and lime, and I glugged it down.
Service was attentive, speedy and friendly. The food? All kinds of delicious! I went for the corn fritters to start: lightly battered fritter of sweetcorn, onion and coriander. These deliciously delicate corn cakes, with classic Thai flavours, made for the perfect little appetiser before the main event; The Thai Yellow Curry. With a coconut milk and turmeric sauce, coley fish throughout and a helping of jasmine rice, the dish was akin to a Thai green curry, albeit with a spicier kick thanks to the Tumeric. — Dreamy, creamy, Thai heaven. I am far more inclined to stray from the ever faithful Thai Green chicken for something a little different in future as the Yellow Curry didn’t disappoint.
Since the cocktail is an essential part of the Tiki experience, I just love that staff go the extra mile to have everyone join the fun, with or without alcohol. Also, anywhere that has a ladder to navigate their bar — which, yes, is shelf after shelf of liquor! — is somewhere I want to spend a heck of a lot more time. Tiki Bar, I do like you!

I’ll be honest I wasn’t really sure what to expect from either the menu or the venue at the Tiki Bar, it’s not really a venue I have looked into that much… I amn’t sure why. Perhaps because I always assumed it was kind of a student bar… as did my 20 year old nephew which didn’t inspire me to really investigate the bar further. I am pleased to report however that this assumption was wrong and it is a pretty funky little spot which is not packed to the rafters with students. Or at least the restaurant wasn’t, I never ventured into the bar.

Located on Bath Street Tiki bar & Kitsch Inn as you would expect is a bit of a retro heaven, there are giant tiki heads all over the place (including the fish tank!), funky vintage prints on the emerald-​green walls and cocktails served in faux coconuts and tiki glasses. The only thing that was missing in this little island hideaway paradise was Elvis sitting in the corner serenading me with Can’t Help Falling In Love, a la his movie Blue Hawaii.

Upon arrival the first thing I was informed by my friend that they could do any cocktail as a mocktail, what can I say the girl knows me well. I immediately set about the large intimidating cocktail menu and just decided to order the Coconut Grenade because I liked the faux coconut the drink was served in… don’t judge me, we all enjoy drinking out of a faux coconut and don’t even try to pretend you don’t :-)

I actually couldn’t tell you a great deal about the staff, they were pleasant and attentive enough but nothing that really stood out, other than the waitress very kindly guiding me away from ordering the hottest thing on the menu by accident which was greatly appreciated.
The food at the Tiki bar & Kitsch Inn is described as Thai Food, here is the thing I am not a huge fan of Thai food but there was more than a few things on the menu that I quite fancied trying, so I would prehaps describe it as Thai for beginners. Tiki
To start with I opted for the Sweetcorn Fritters, when then arrived there were 5 large flat fritters on the plate accompanied with plenty of sauce. The fritters were really good, they were crunchy on the outside and light and fluffy on the inside and every so slightly greasy but I think fritters should be slightly greasy so they totally worked for me. The sauce was sticky and had a little heat in it but not too bad, the crumbled peanut over the top of the sauce added a really lovely crunch and texture to the dish. Excellent start to the meal and I would definitely order again… in fact I could have taken a second portion on the night.
For my main I was going to order the Pla Tod Yum which was described as — Crispy fillet of coley dressed with fresh mango and cashew nuts in roasted chilli, lime and lemongrass sauce. Which to me sounded delicious, but as soon as I ordered it the waitress immediately said in a very helpful and friendly manner ‘you do know that’s the hottest thing on the menu?’ Excellent advice and I changed my order to the Coley with Three Flavoured Sauce which was described as Lightly battered coley topped with onions, chilli and tamarind sauce giving a slightly sweet taste, served with Asian vegetables and jasmine rice.
The dish looked and smelt incredible when it was derived to our table so I dove straight in (after taking 200 pictures of my dish naturally!) The generous portion of fish was beautiful and flaky, the batter was incredibly thin and light The sauce was at the very top of my comfort heat wise but that didn’t take away from the amazing taste of the lovely aromatic sweet sauce and the rice was sticky, light and just the right portion size.
A really really great meal with great friends. As an added bonus to our lovely night we checked in with out Unilocal App when we were there we got 2 courses for £13.50…result! As there was a wee group of us I didn’t want to take a picture of the receipt, but if you were to go along and pay full price for the meal I had, including cocktail the cost would be £22.20 (because of the deal my meal cost £20.50)
I would definitely visit here again for food it was a lovely atmosphere and pretty delicious food.

Alrighty. Where to begin?
The style. It’s bizarre. It’s «eccentric». It’s Tiki! Easter Island style statues adorn almost every corner (and fishtank) in here, and it just works. It does. I defy you not to smile.
The bar downstairs in the basement area is small, but stylish and warm, welcoming and just very homely. I wasn’t aware of the upstairs part until a similarly bemused looking Nicola C sussed it out. We headed upstairs to a large-​ish restaurant area decked out in a similar style, with a smaller bar area nestled in the back.
Drinks were duly ordered from the bamboozlingly big menu card. A Coconut Grenade arrived in my hand, after watching the barman combine bottles, ice, leaves, fruits, sprays and straws into a wonderful half coconut glass. It was a work of art. I felt guilty drinking it.
But it was booze, so I did.
Should also note, if you’re not drinking, all cocktails are available in «mocktail» form — alcohol free and served the same way, a cracking idea!
We were seated quickly, a nice window table in the corner, and after perusing the menu (and several photos being taken) more drinks were offered, and food orders taken.
I opted for the Spring Rolls with a sweet chilli dipping sauce. I’ve eaten spring rolls from my local takeaways before, never contemplated having a dip with them. Consider my tiny mind BLOWN! The spring rolls were crunchy, well filled and extremely tasty. They even stopped me talking for a few minutes; fellow Unilocalers will appreciate that.
Also, like to point out at this point a bottle of water and glasses with ice and slice were deposited on the table without prompting, a nice touch I don’t see very often these days. Much appreciated!
With the starters done, time for the main. I took the pork fillet, sliced and served with a garlic and pepper sauce and jasmine rice, with some mixed veggies and whatnot.
It was so nice, I even ate broccoli for the second week running. INTENTIONALLY.
The pork was delicious, cooked just right and melted in the mouth, combined with the bite of the sauce and the beautifully cooked rice (be surprised how often that gets overlooked) it was a delight. A delight, I say!
Service was superb, even allowing for the rowdy table full of folk that arrived after us.
It’s not somewhere I would have thought of heading for some food, given how bizarrely picky I am, but I really, REALLY enjoyed the food and atmosphere here and would definitely head back again. Colour me *very* impressed indeed.
I would also work my way through the cocktail list, if I was in an adventurous mood. I probably will at some point. You have been warned, Tiki-​Bar-​People.

This bar must be one of the most sought after locations to visit on a night out in Glasgow.
The décor alone allows you to step into a world you would normally enjoy while on your summer holidays.
The cocktails are to die for and their tallented bar staff certainly know how to put on a show for the punters.
The staff, on a less busier night are always happy to dabble in New concoctions to suit your preferences.
My only complaint would be the prices, however you get what you pay for and I haven’t ever left this bar without a smile on my face and known it was money well spent.

I first visited the tiki bar for my friends hen night and I was hooked. The cocktails are amazing and come in the most amazing glasses. The kitch Inn up the stairs dies the most amazing thai food, I can recommend all ofcthe starters as they are all good but I tend to stick to the prawn phat thai for my main as it is delicious. I have brought lots of friends and they have all loved it. It’s also great for groups. I’ve had birthday nights and work nights out here and have never been let down. Can’t recommend it enough. My fav place in Glasgow.

my pal and I were greeted with a friendly face as a female member of staff took us to a table at the window. considering it was one of our rare sunny days, the window was wide open.
as a non smoker I was concerned that smoke would drift in, but as the seating for smokers seems to be round the corner a wee bit, I only caught a wiff once or twice… I can deal with that!
we both had starters, mine, the corn cakes, we’re better than mine– so happily chomped on them as my bud scoffed his … oh, help, I think it was tai fish cakes??? they went down a treat, I was informed!

I, myself, don’t like to be rushed through my dinner, and our server had a great knack of just ensuring we weren’t wanting for anything, and being right on time for drinks refills, or when she served our mains.
my companion had the tai green curry, and I had chicken and rice with veg. I asked for a tad more spice to be cooked through it all, and it was just right for me. (I’m certain it had a nice name, for the dish. but of course… cannae mind it!!!)
we tackled another couple of madly named cocktails, enjoying them each time with gusto. I really liked the coconut thingy (served in half a coconut shell!!)

I visited here for a meeting one lovely Glasgow afternoon (I lie, it was probably raining). While I waited for my companion to arrive, I looked over the food menu as I was totally starving and hadn’t ever had the opportunity to eat here before. The place wasn’t too busy so I was able to nab an awesome booth which are super comfy and a good place to get on with business chats without being distracted.
I opted for the chicken satay ayam — skewers of marinated chicken, grilled and
served with peanut sauce and cucumber relish. These are offered as a starter for a two course lunch, but I actually just fancied one course so they doubled the size of the starter portion for me — cheers!
I love chicken satay and this didn’t disappoint. Perfectly cooked with lashings of sauce, I sped through skewers 1 – 4 and then really struggled to finish the last two. It also comes with a wee mound of rice which is perfect for soaking up excess sauce and chicken. Yum.
While I wasn’t partaking in cocktails this time, I love their options and love how creative this place is. It is definitely somewhere different to visit — whether for a night out or even just a meal.

I had seen a few Unilocalers give this place good reviews, and as I love Thai food was keen to try it out.
Was nearby last night at an event, and so headed to The Tiki Bar & Kitsch Inn for dinner. We were in time for the pre-​theatre deal, which was £13.50 for 2 courses. Normally I would choose dinner & dessert, however, I can never pass up a Chicken Satay starter, so starter and main it was for me.
The Chicken Satay was delicious, and a very generous portion. Lovely moist chicken with just the right amount of peanut sauce (hate it when you don’t get enough sauce).
For main, I opted for another favourite of mine, Thai Green Chicken Curry. It was deliciously fragrant, coconutty, and generously portioned.
The cocktail menu was to die for — so many delicious-​sounding cocktails to choose from. I had a Coconut Grenade in the end (reminiscing of my youthful days drinking Malibu & pineapple — classy chick). It was beautiful!
Really loved the presentation of the cocktails in fabulously kitsch pottery from Fireworks Pottery Studios.
Would love a night out in The Tiki Bar to sample more of those cocktails!

Great cocktails, nice food and great atmosphere.
This is one of Glasgow’s best cocktail bars. They have a great cocktail menu with some incredible creations ranging in price from £6 to over £100. Normally served in beautifully shaped glass or stoneware cups these become rare due to theft so they now ask for a deposit.
Good selection of beers with West’s St Mungos, Blue moon on tap along with a few nice bottle in the fridge. One of the best places you can visit in the city if you enjoy your rum.
Not cheap but great cocktails.
The Kitch Inn upstairs offers great food and lovely atmosphere.
We settled down a group of 8 for meal. The food was all beautiful, not the biggest portion size however it was very tasty. Full bar selection is also available up here which makes for a great night.
Both areas are exquisitely decorated and have a fantastic feel to them. The Tiki bar can get very busy and has many fans who will spend long periods of time in there.
