A big union, with lots of different bars to drink, play pool or hang around with your friends. Semester openings are always funny there with a lot of different theme parties to meet a lot of new people. What else to say? Of course manny nice and cheap student deals for drinks and food, so a nice place before or between lectures and also for some nights

It actually breaks my heart to have to give Strathclyde Union only 4 stars.
When I first joined Unilocal had I ever thought I would end up reviewing my old university union there would be NO DOUBT in my mind I would give it like it five stars a million gazzillion times over!!!
This place was my undergraduate degree. Going out to 99p Tuesdays, not my making 9 o’clock lectures on Wednesday, but not caring cause it was Pharmacology! Being able to nip along for a cheeky pint or two and some pool between classes. Granted, I spent far too much time here, I knew the bar staff, we had ‘our usual table’. Then there was TFI Fridays, and DJ Phil (for those of you who don’t know he is, he is a legend… at least to past students, I think he is barely there now). There had to be damned good reason for me not to be there EVERY Friday.
So, basically, I went to visit a chum of mine in Glasgow. She phoned Phil and got our names put on the door ‘just incase’ we decided we fancied going back for old times sake. Needless to say, we went.
It is just not the same anymore, it has lost all the atmosphere it once had. I hope this isn’t just because I am starting to grow up. But people don’t want to get involved, poor Stephen was on the stage giving it all he had, and no-​one was interested. In his own words — they just aren’t up for it as much as when we were there. There is no participation in Roxanne, the whole bar does not start passionately singing when Journey comes on, there was no dancing on stools… and there is now a ban on drinking games.
But regardless this place will always be like a second home for me. I have too many great memories, have met many great people here, had several messy nights, learnt alot of fun drinking games here, and just generally rocked up living the student lifestyle — Thank you Strathclyde Union.

I think I have to be the least studenty student in the world, unions make me feel physically sick. The thought of downing cider and blackcurrant juice surrounded by numskulls singing along to the Kings of Leon or Brian Adams «Summer of 69» (how original) is my idea of hell. The floors are suspiciously sticky, the toilets stink, they don’t even sell premium spirits, it also smells like the inside of a guys gym shoe.
I just feel that unions seem to be an initiation into Uni life and if you haven’t completed the challenge of drinking 10 sambucas in a row then you just don’t cut it. Thankfully I don’t care about all that polava and would rather keep my money for a new pair of shoes.
My friend has dragged me here a couple of times and although it might have seemed appealing when I was 17 visiting Uni open days, I just feel I’ve completely grown out of the union thing, if I was ever into it in the first place. I’d rather leave getting drunk and acting like a tit to my 6^th year days.
I much prefer to get dressed up in a nice outfit and go out for a nice meal and a couple of after dinner drinks and if I’m feeling really wild I might go for a wee boogie afterwards.
That said, I realise not everyone is as boring as I am and if you enjoy getting blootered night after night and then bragging about how hungover you are in your nine o’clock lecture the next day then I suppose this place does it job. So even though it’s not my bag I’ll still award three stars.

Scotlands future think tank congregates here to drown in cheap drink and fall about in their own kebab spew.

The size of it means that running up and down flights stairs if you want to pop out for a quick smoke is a real pain. On the other hand, there’s four floor with plenty to do and a handy newsagent to save you heading outside when winter hits.

The massive, sprawling Strathclyde Union, or ‘Strathy’ as most of us know it, is a top draw for any student staying in the city centre. As a student from Caledonian University, our own students union, while it was still open, paled in comparison, so most of us a ended up here instead.
There are eight floors and four different bars, though is it just me or is it only really the games room and main hall that are open? However the games room is huge, with dozens of pool tables, arcade machines and seats to enjoy a drink from its own bar.
The main hall is not quite so big strangely enough. Things get very packed up near the bar — I nearly lost the will to live waiting to get served at times, though I partially rectified this by buying about four drinks for myself at a time. But the waiting is probably worth it on 12 Hour Tuesdays — when most drinks are at a ridiculously cheap £1 from 3pm to 3am. There are some people I know who have actually survived the whole 12 hours. I just hope they didn’t have morning lectures!
As well as all of the above, Strathy also has — wait for it — hot dogs on sale well into the night. They go down a treat, I tell you.

I’ve spent about half my adult life in here.
I used to go here around twice a week, but have lost interest lately. I think I’m growing out of it to be honest. It’s full of a new breed of young trendies that I don’t manage to connect with on any level or than accidentally bumping into them queueing at the bar.
Had some truly epic nights in here, with regular events ongoing including washed up z-​list celebrities, tribute bands and charity fundraisers.
It’s cheap as funk on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and as expected, gets hefty busy as a result.
It’s easy to have a good night in here with the right crowd but it’s definately more suited towards freshers and undergraduates.

Anyone who has ever been a student in Glasgow will surely have been here at some point, whether it’s for a sneaky lunchtime pint, or maybe for a lunch time munch, or perhaps for a cheap and nasty night out.
This place is all about students, the student way of life, and is full of people who just LOVE playing up to the stereotype. Drinks are ridiculously cheap and there are plenty of activities and nights out to be had on any given evening. Generally, nights out here feel like those at a tacky holiday camp, due to the cheap and cheesy nature of it.
Personally, I prefer The Union during the day, when it’s much quieter and you can enjoy hogging the jukebox to create your own soundtrack to your game of pool enjoyed with a pint and some pals.

Despite being educated at the University of Glasgow, I found myself in this union quite a few times when visiting friends who studied at Strathclyde.
I’ll be honest– the memories are a bit hazy, but I remember having a really good time. There is only so good that a union can be –there will always be nicer venues with better music– however as unions go, this is a goodie. To it’s merit, it is pretty big with different bars selling cheap drinks to keep you going all night long. Not a bad option if you’re under the age of 22 and looking for a cheap night out.

The Strathclyde Union is huge — the biggest in Britain, with a total of eight floors.
Although several offices are housed in here, people generally just come to get plastered. And why not, with all drinks only 99p on a Tuesday.
When it comes to the building itself, a lot of self-​righteous students get on their soapbox, complaining about the price of super noodles, and issuing fatwas against the latest flavour of the month. Still, so long as the (flat) pints keep coming, people will grin and bear their annoying behaviour.

Hmmmmmm… the union is a funny one for me. I’ve never really been that into the union.
I think it all stems from a bad experience at 12 Hour Tuesday, back when I was a wee second year. The queue at the bar was three deep and I could just not get served. The Hallowe’en All Nighter was ridiculous too, so bad that when I fell down the stairs, it was impossible to fall, I just bumped into the person on the step below in the crush. I suppose I should be grateful actually.
Well now I’m a big angry 5^th year (although I regularly get mistaken for a fresher — what is it that makes me look so young!!!) and I know better. The Union may be cheap and gigantic, but it’s not all that good.
Meh, maybe I’m just too grumpy and old for that sort of thing.

Apparently the tallest student Union in Europe, it doesn’t look very impressive from outside but is remarkably well equipped if you visit. There are a wide variety of facilities over the numerous floors including bars, pool tables, shops, a bank, dry cleaners and administrative offices for the University. Entry is possible with a student ID card from any UK university

I’ve been going to this union for well over 2 years now and I can confidently say that it is one of, if not the best student union in Scotland. The union is housed in a multi-​storey building with ever floor dedicated to a different type of venue.
Level 1 — The cloakroom, how exciting! The rates for using the cloakroom are perfectly reasonable, set at £1 for the night.
Level 2 — The Barony. Perhaps the most successful student bar anywhere on Scotland. Has a number of special nights including Monday Night Quiz (£250 cash prize), 12-​hour Tuesdays (99p per drink — unfortunately this can make it hard to get served!), and TFI Fridays featuring the cheesiest music around.
Level 3 — The Game Zone. This is the largest pool hall in Scotland with ~20 tables (75p per game). Also has a variety of video game machines & a suitably sized bar.
Level 4 — The Scene. Open during the day, sells reasonable food at reasonable prices. Nice and spacious with relaxing décor, always very busy at lunch time.
Level 5 — The Lounge. Supposedly this area is for people who bring packed lunches to uni, though I’ve never heard of anyone actually using it before.
Level 6 — The Priory. A cocktail bar with modern décor, numerous seating booths, and music quiet enough to enjoy a proper conversation (quite the opposite to The Barony ;)).
All in all the union is a great place to go for a night out. The variety of venues mean that you can spend the entire night in the one building but still experience a bunch of different settings. Definitely recommended!

Offers vodka and a mixer at 79p on certain nights, hence why i have never been in this place long enough, taxi before 11pm most nights. usually busy and can be a pain getting to the bar. full of students which isnt a bad thing, good fun ime atmosphere. and usually some drinking games going on
