Well organised, well stocked and clean. There is always loads available in the meal deal section and great choice of chilled wines, beer and picnic ingredients perfect to grab if your heading for the sun in Soho square. Avoid lunch rush 12pm-​2pm if you can however!

Another day another supermarket. I am not a Tesco fan but this branch is the exception. It is so handy opposite Liverpool Street station which means I regularly pop in whenever I am in the city. Be warned it get seriously busy with suits at lunchtimes best avoided then despite the large number of self-​service tills. The news is pumped round the store on various large screen tvs. I couldn’t do a weekly shop here but for grabbing a few bits for dinner they have a decent fruit and veg section its great. They like to play around with the layout the current version works pretty well. Tesco are one of the better stores for getting your money and getting you out the store Waitrose could definitely learn something here. I suppose this is my guilty secreta Tesco with delusions of grandeur as always their stock range matches the target market its city workers so expect a decent range of champagnes.

This is a very busy Tesco during lunch time, when the cost-​conscious local workers come to get food. This store definitely caters to the lunch crowd. Alright for normal grocery shopping as well.

I used to be a tesco fan, but in the past year… i’ve watched the prices jump 50p on most products, and 1 pounds on some. It really ticks me off! I’m not really seeing prices much different from Sainsburys.
but this review is about this location. You should see the lunch time masses. This places gets crazy! But I give them credit… it’s handled well. Heaps and heaps of checkout tills and plenty of self service checkouts.
So dispite the rising prices due to inflation. Hmmm, my salary is down. he he. But this location does support the mass crowds quickly. So I always come back for my carrot sarni!

For a Tesco Metro, the amount of things stocked here is incredible. You can get magazines, DVDs, plastic cutlery, gluten-​free foodstuff, alcohol, cheese, chocolate, vitamins and toiletries. And I love that it opens late till 1 am on weeknights and 10 pm on Saturdays.

If you go seeking to satiate a craving for chicken wings you may be disappointed to find they don’t have any, it’s a gamble. If you are lucky and do find them in the hot section I would advise opening the packet to check that a packet labelled as 10 chicken wings actually has 10 chicken wings, or you may go back to the office and find you only have 5.
Also make sure you have your patience intact because they staff at the tills can make you wait and are often rude and far from courteous.

Incidentally, Uncyclopedia (witty parody of Wikipedia) quotes as follows ‘Dickens died without a single penny to his name, which, in addition to being sad, is considerably ironic, given the charges leveled at him. It is now believed that Charles Dickens’s fortune was stolen by Lord Xavier Tescough, future founder of the Tesco supermarket empire, which hence explains their somewhat unusual marketing slogan, Every penny helps.

All I can say is you guys are sooo damn lucky to have these stores. They’re like a *better* deli. Maybe it’s cause I don’t live here, so I see all different things that we don’t have. Gin+tonic in a can? Check. Pimms, that old British favorite, also in a can? check! Quick groceries such as fresh fruits + veggies, in a deli size store? check. Great mixed nuts, and trail mix bag a la trader joes? Check. And these stores are all over the place.
The only downside I’d say is they don’t seem to be open 24 hours, but what is in London?

This Tesco is definitely deserving of a ‘Meh’ rating. Yes, it’s biggish, well located and the rest but it’s also extremely overpriced owing to its location and severely conflicted in terms of whether it wants to be a Tesco Metro with an emphasis on lunches for City Boys or, what the area really needs, a proper supermarket with, you know, ingredients and stuff.
The nail in the coffin of this Tesco as a decent supermarket was about two years ago when a) it was rearranged for the lunch crowd, supermarket trolleys removed and all and b) they brought in the repugnant self-​service checkouts. A real shame because there is a dearth of good supermarkets in the area and Tesco should well know that a lot of local residents — at least attempt — to do their weekly shop here. Difficult when such mandates are imposed that when plastic bags run out customers MUST buy Tesco’s similarly plastic ‘Bags for Life’. The cheek!
Service gripes aside what really gets me about this supermarket is the lack of choice. Most produce is marked as best before the day after you buy it making it very quickly useless and not suitable for a weekly shop. And no matter how hard I’ve looked I’ve not ever been able to find clothes bleach in this supermarket. Not once.
Tesco Bishopsgate is ok for ready meals and the like and the wine section is good — naturelle being the City and all — but sadly, this branch is no longer suitable for much more. You’re much better off going to Sainsbury’s in Islington for higher quality and in many cases cheaper food or The Grocery on Kingsland Road for specialty items.

Located in the midst of the city offices, it is not surprising that this supermarket should choose to mainly cater for that type of crowd. This store is perfect for their wide sections of lunches, sandwiches, fruit packs, hot meals, morning pastries and bakeries, chocolates and wines.
If you live in the area, I would not recommend doing your weekly shopping here, since you are unlikely to find many of the ingredients you are looking for, however it is a useful place to shop for this or that item such as fruit, milk, veggies, bread and other bare essentials.
I would try and avoid lunch times unless you are into a bit of S&M and crazy crowds, but other than that I find that this does offer a perfectly functional location and range of items.

Living in zone 1 it is very difficult to mission out to big supermarkets to go food shopping. I do end up spending a fortune as food prices in the centre are much more expensive.
Although Tesco at Bishopsgate is a metro it is a decent sized metro especially in comparison to the minuscule Tesco on Shoreditch High Street!
Lunch times during the week are manic! Try and avoid if possible! All the city workers buying their lunch, the queue often extends down the meat and vegetable isles! Also week nights Monday Tuesday and Wednesday are extremely busy. Thursday and Friday are usually quieter as these are considered boozy nights in the city!
The best thing about this Tesco is the great selection of fruit and vegetables! Most metros have a few boxes of fruit and veges however Bishopsgate has a whole isle and half of another. The wine and spirits selection is also very good and reasonable priced.
My favourite aspect is the self serve. You have the option of over 12 cashiers or 12 self service machines. Great if you have a trolley full of food or if you just need to zip through and buy lunch.
To buy tobacco and lotto ticket you have to queue at a separate counter which can sometimes be a bore when you have loads of sopping and you need to but a lotto ticket or a packet of cigarettes.
Overall a brilliant Tesco Metro!

This is such a good Tesco. i usually shop at the big one in Elephant and Castle or Regent St but when passing here the other day I popped in. It had a really good bakery where I got some gorgeous ciabatta bread for about 30p and they have a really good selection of magazines for a supermarket too.
However this really isn’t the place to go if you need to do a big shop because it is full of tourists and office workers buying lunch (as it is opposite Liverpool St station) so there aren’t any trolleys, or any room for that matter.
It is great for the little stuff though, and really well stocked with fresh stuff like bread and smoothies, both of which I bought and loved.
