Ardingly Activity Centre is a watersports centre based at Ardingly Reservoir a 200 acre reservoir in West Sussex. The centre runs RYA courses in dinghy sailing and windsurfing and keelboat and powerboat training at Chichester Harbour. The centre also teaches paddlesports, raftbuilding and multi activity sessions. We hold BCU recognition and an AALA license and are now in our 26th year at Ardingly. We operate all year round and teach school, clubs, scouts etc & groups. We also provide facilities to keep your own boat at Ardingly or hire facilities if you wish to use our equipment.
AAC runs RYA theory courses in First Aid, VHF radio, Dayskipper to Yachtmaster.
We run a coarse fishery with day & season tickets, which is open all year round. Good bags of course fish are caught with bags exceeding 90lbs in some matches. The fish are carp to 36 lbs, Tench to 9lbs, Bream 5lbs, good Roach and perch. Pike fishing
History
Established in 1986.
Chris Kinsman founded Ardingly Activity Centre in 1986 having spent 8 years as a Seaman Officer in the Royal Navy. The centre started by providing tuition in RYA dinghy sailing and theory courses. Over the subsequent years windsurfing and canoeing and powerboat recognition was obtained.
In 1993 Paul Kibble joined the centre as the chief Instructor.
1994 saw the centre win the GrandMet Trust’s small business employers award in recognition of the role Chris and the centre had played as an employer providing job training for people out of work.
1995 Ardingly rowing club was started, and rowing in sculls, pairs and fours has developed with a thriving club.
The centre spent 10 years working with Haywards Heath College (then re named Central Sussex College) providing NVQ training for NVQ1,2,and 3.
In November 2006 Ardingly Activity Centre was made into a limited company. RYA recognition for Keelboat courses at Chichester was established in 2007 with the addition of a J80 to the fleet.
