Wandering Duck is a skippered canal boat hire company. We offer multi-day trips by 69ft narrowboat around Manchester and the North West.
Come on your own and join a scheduled trip, or privately charter the boat with friends, family, or maybe a group that you belong to.
Unlike traditional barge hire, Wandering Duck takes the hassle out of self-hire. We look after the boat, and prepare all meals, leaving you to relax and enjoy the scenery. Have a go at steering, help with locks, brew a round of drinks, but don’t feel you have to do anything.

Me and my wife Ruth started Wandering Duck in April 2012.
Previous to this we spent a year managing a backpacker hostel in Kaikoura, New Zealand, which we absolutely loved. We’ve spent many years travelling (we met in Byron Bay, Australia), and we still love to travel whenever we have the chance.
Wandering Duck is our way to show people a unique side to the English countryside in a relaxed and truly unique way.
