Cult in my eyes is another member of the new breed of overly pretentious stores which have begun to clog up high streets and shopping centres the country over. These kinds of places disgust me with their extortionate prices, arrogant staff and poor customer service. Cult is a prime suspect for all of the above negative qualities and when I found this establishment in Liverpool One my heart sank as I knew it would be the same old story. The staff here were a little better than expected but the overall level of service was as poor as I had originally expected as I was left waiting for an extortionate amount of time having tried to request some assistance. I’m sure that there must be some examples of these establishments that perform brilliantly but I have yet to find any and this establishment certainly is not one of them.

Cult sells a tremendous array of clothing for both genders, with a couple of floors packed full of trendy and wacky gear. I did find this shop a little confusing as there seemed to be no logical layout and items of clothes appeared to have a random position in all areas I browsed. The background music was also loud and distracting, especially because it wasn’t my type of music. Unfortunately, this was my first and will be my only visit to Cult as this shop just isn’t for me. Their prices are way too unreasonable which is enough to put me off. Fashion at Cult certainly comes at a cost and you’ll struggle to grab a bargain if that’s what you’re looking for.

If you’re parading around Liverpool One on the hunt for a pretty dress or a new handbag, then Cult is the place to visit(just look at the quality of the window display– numerous well dressed mannequins). As well as stocking popular brands Motel and Paul’s Boutique, the store has more unusual concessions such as AngelEye. Cult seems largely associated with Superdry clothing, and although it is heavily affiliated it’s important to remember it does stock a huge variety of pieces. If you have eclectic fashion sense like I do and want some more generic items to contrast with vintage finery, then Cult offers some great t-shirts and quality hoodies. The store is light and nicely set-out to make shopping enjoyable(and not a chore) and the staff are extremely helpful. The only criticism I have is of the dull lighting in the fitting-rooms which can make it difficult to judge what you’re trying on.

Eighties alert! If you missed the decade of nu romance and flurescent socks the first time around, you’ll be pleased to know that CULT are currently stocking some classic 80s gear. There’s no sign of any ra-ra skirts or Frankie Says… tee-shirts yet but they do have flurescent tees, blouses, mini skirts, dresses, handbags and accessories. Located in a huge building in Liverpool ONE, the shop also has colourful, plain and graphic tee-shirts, sweaters, hoodies, jeans, sun-dresses, cardigans and party frocks. There’s a decent range of shoes, boots, handbags and accessories too. In fact, I’d give them four stars if they had more labels like Paul’s Boutique and Superdry Vintage Thirft. As CULT stands however, there’s far too many faux-university and surfing tees!

Cult pretty much just seems to sell Superdry clothing which means that it is already at a handicap with me as I’m not a fan. I can’t see the appeal of all the identical plaid shirts and the primary coloured hoodies with all the obvious labelling and there seems very little, quality-wise, to separate their clothes and those available at, say, Burton. Having said that if you really like Superdry then definitely get yourself down here — it’s a veritable warehouse of the stuff. Also, the place has a lot of light and space, in a sort of Urban Outfitters way, which is always a plus and the staff seemed to be pretty happy to work there which can only be good. I will admit though that I saw some pretty sweet looking distressed leather boots there a few months ago so that’s in it’s favour too. Maybe I’m just being too crotchety.
