Esteban is a great tapas restaurant on Lark Lane. It was actually my first experience of tapas as, despite being a bit of a globe trotter, Spain and its culture had always been something I hadn’t dabbled in. The choices on offer all sounded great — I wasn’t aware that the Spanish were so into black pudding before coming here, I must say. The waiter recommended that we get three dishes each. Now, I assumed that because tapas tends to be small and I’m a HUGE eater that this wouldn’t be enough, so we got four each. I was very wrong — three would have been plenty! Despite my error we managed to devour the lot as it was all so good. The cocktails were equally as tasty, though a little pricey if I recall correctly. A Spanish girl from work informed me afterwards that Esteban is generally a lot more ‘proper’ than a lot of the tapas chains, so that was good to know. I would definitely recommend Esteban and I’ll be coming back here in the future, most definitely.

I’m not a fan of Tapas but one day when me and a friend were wandering round Lark Lane looking for food we noticed Esteban’s sandwich board advertising breakfast for £5.95 and we decided to give it a try. When we entered we were welcomed by a member of staff and shown to our seats. As we knew what we wanted we ordered right away. Our drinks were bought to us shortly afterwards and were closely followed by our breakfasts. The breakfast consisted of 2 Sausages, 2 bacon, eggs, grilled tomato, black pudding, hash brown, baked beans and toast. We had the choice of tea or coffee. Our breakfasts looked delicious. They were very generous and everything looked as if it was cooked and prepared expertly. Everything on the plate was delicious and perfect. We were both very happy with our choice. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. They are very attentive and helpful. I’ve been back several times for breakfast at Esteban.

Fancy a little drinkey out in the sun now that Summer has come? Well, Esteban with it’s vibrant Spanish atmosphere and most importantly, it’s outdoor seating area, complete with heaters if you’re out in the evening, is delightful. Especially with some sangria. Add some friends, some cheap tapas and probably a splash or two more of spirits and you’re in for a good time. It’s got an authetic, terracotta interior which is warm and inviting, but when I’ve been in, there haven’t been many customers, I think it’s rather hot and cold for that, but you’ll have your pick of seat! Hence the nature of the patio, for the summery and sunny times and certainly not for the usual English climate!

With its outdoor suntrap of a patio, exotic palm trees and general vibrancy, Esteban is the ideal spot for an afternoon drink, provided you look the correct way. Sat outside gave me two distinct views. To my left was the lush equatorial flora that made my mind wander off to sunnier climes. To my right was the car park, a grey reminder of where I really was. It’s difficult to imagine what Esteban must be like in the wintry drizzle but by definition it cannot match the sunny idyll it basked in during my visit. Definitely one to visit when the weather is suitable(i.e. rarely).

Now that the sunshine is here — yes well on occassion — Estanbans comes in to its own because of its outdoor patio and good service. The food is not the best Spanish I have ever had, and I would probably recommend Que Pasa up the road, however when you’re sat under their palm trees with a cold beer or a Sangria you get a fairly good taste of Spain. It can get very busy at weekends although because it is such a big place can feel very empty when it’s not full. Best for sunday afternoons in the sunshine.

Esteban is absolutely perfect for a sunny afternoon meal and drink. They serve a selection of Spanish beers, including Bira Modelo, a beer not found in many places along Lark Lane. They have an amazing outdoor seating area, but I would recommend booking, we waited 30 minutes for a space here last week on a hot day and we ended up drinking inside instead. That said, the décor inside is great, the whole place has a real holiday feel to it, making the atmosphere great throughout. I’ve not eaten here myself, but as we sat and drank, the food looked and smelt amazing. The menu wasn’t too pricey and the staff were happy and very professional. I’m not sure what it’s like in the evenings here, but it’s a child friendly venue in the daytimes, so it’s perfect for a light lunch for the family on a weekend afternoon!

Esteban in Lark Lane is so very popular and has such a gorgeous outdoor terrace, it is heartily recommended that you book at weekends. Occupying a Mediterranean Tapas spectrum, it’s the perfect place for light bites and wine on a hazy summer evening. It’s been decorated to the nines in a rustic Mediterranean style which offers a really whimsical atmosphere and makes you feel like you’re on holiday, north-westerly weather permitting. It’s fully embraced its roots and in keeping with this, the sangria is to die for. There’s a great selection of tapas, all of which is tasty and rather authentic I might add, and the atmosphere is lively and friendly. Located on the perfectly bohemian, bustling Lark Lane it makes for a great post-shopping spot or just a social meet-up with friends. Definitely worth checking out.

Esteban is a large tapas restaurant on Lark Lane which is usually popular with groups and parties. I remember going in there once when it was quiet and wondering if the place could ever be full because it seemed so big, but they do good business so who’s complaining? A cheaper way to sample Spanish cuisine, the tapas here are all less than £6, and although the menu isn’t as varied as other places you may have been, it manages to cater for everyone. If you fancy something a bit more substantial, the house specials offer various meat main courses, with only one veggie option that I could spot, which was the paella for two at £21.95 and even that had meat in it. The desserts aren’t much to write home about I’m afraid, and they don’t seem very Spanish at all, although I’m not an expert. Probably best to use Esteban as somewhere to try out tapas if you’ve never had it before, and if you’re on a budget steer away from the wines and sangria, as they may seem a little overpriced.
