Grand Central is a warren of weirdness! It’s twisty turny and non-Euclidean and sometimes far out. Interesting shops, friendly clerks, interesting merchandise, and great bargains. Whether you’re a rocker, punk, emo, goth, rasta, hippy, or just curious, you’ll find something to make you happy, especially if you’re on a budget. Morgana’s Lair is my favorite.

The powers that be decided to get rid of Liverpool’s Quiggins centre. Thankfully Grand Central rose not quite in it’s place but nearby Grand Central is a massive building which houses many different shops on 3 floors. These are of many different shapes and sizes and cater for a great many tastes. My favourite shop is Grin which takes up the majority of the ground floor. This is an excellent shop for buying clothes, shoes, accessories, gifts, bags and hair dye. The staff are helpful and friendly and the items are pretty cheap. Other highlights include the Dr Marten’s shop Woodstock which is situated in the basement. They have a large range of different styles of Dr Martens boots and shoes and also inexpensive jewellery, If you have time to spare go upstairs and check out Mandy Moo’s milkshake bar. They will make up a milkshake for you from a variety of ingredients such as Mars bars, cookie dough and Reese Peanut Butter cups. They are so tasty and if the sun is shining you can sit outside and enjoy your milkshake. This is a great little place for wandering around and investigating. Every time I go there I find a new treasure to buy.

If you love distinctive threads but don’t have the budget for Vivienne Westwood, it’s worth making a trip to Grand Central. An ornate and characterful old building on Renshaw Street, it’s packed with literally dozens of different vintage, secondhand and independent clothes boutiques. Some are lavishly decorated and include characterful dressing rooms and eccentric owners whilst others are more basic /no-frills store-fronts with a till and a few display units. Most of the stores from Venus In Furs, Somewhere In Time and Curious Orange to Total Recall, Preserved and Hepibazaar are reasonably priced and usually have some great items hidden amongst the racks. There’s also a few jewellery and accessory stalls, a dressmakers, a seamstress and a record shop.

So if I’m heading into Liverpool, the place I visit first is Grand Central. Filled with boutiques heaving with vintage goodies, the shopping centre always has something I want to buy. Its unusual décor creates a sense of fantasy as shoppers are free to wander up and down staircases, stumbling upon a series of unique stores filled with mutliple genres of clothing(from designer to gothic pieces). Particular favourites include POP Boutique and Little Red Vintage, where you can pick up a range of items, from beautiful handbags to retro t-shirts. However, my favourite store is the jewellery ‘closet.’ Filled with quirky jewellery(such as jammy dodger rings) and some more classical pieces, I’m always guaranteed to pick up something unique.

Ah, Grand Central. I have been meaning to visit this alternative/boutique shopping centre for a long time, and surprisingly today was the first day in nearly two years of living in England that I finally popped in. Vintage, gothic, punk, designer, one-of-a-kind. All these clothing types and more are up for sale in the various delightful little shops and boutiques inside Grand Central. So whether you’re girly or tomboyish, cutie or cult, wonder girl or witch, you’ll find some fabulous additions to your wardrobe here. There are also shops that sell collectables, antiques, books, vinyl records, comic books, vintage jewellery, incense, and tarot cards. You name it. If it’s quirky or rare, you’ll probably find it at Grand Central. I spent a couple of hours just wandering around the different shops and drooling over the fascinating wares. Lots of fun! Contrary to popular belief, this is not the new location of Quiggins. Apparently some shop holders who used to be in Quiggins are now located in Grand Central, GC is an entirely separate shopping centre. If I’m not mistake Quiggins relocated to Aigburth Street.

Ah its finally happened! Run the zombies are coming! A 28 Days Later scenario has… oh its just a bunch of pasty emo youths, we must be outside Liverpool’s Grand Central, home of the city’s alternative and independent shops. Typing the name into the Unilocal search engine, however I was a little confused by the addition of Halltoy Shop — I don’t even know what one of them is but then I thought who is to say one of them isn’t here! Grand Central has hundreds of tiny little outlets ranging from vintage clothing, sweet shops, comic stores and housewares. With more of the building being renovated and the nature of the businesses there, Grand Central seems to be a space in a constant state of change so every time you go back it feels like a new experience — just be aware of the emo kids at the weekend, attracted to alternative shopping like moths to a flame they are!
