John Lewis

This might be a posh store but talk about expensive to the extreme. Their «Never knowingly undersold» promise means nothing to them either. l recently compared their price on a CD player against the manufacturer’s RRP and found it to be much dearer. l emailed them with the details and apart from an acknowledgement, they chose to ignore me. No wonder that they can afford such a posh store. l’d recommend it solely as a short cut to get back and to to the bus station.

Having spotted that John Lewis was directly behind my hotel, I couldn’t wait for the opportunity to go spend some hard earned pennies. Having an hour to spare early Saturday evening, I jumped at the opportunity.
The ground floor is full of sparking delights — glassware, ceramics, gifts, and even Christmas decorations. Had I had the means of transporting home a large volume of Xmas pressies I would have enjoyed myself immensely in this section.
However, today was all about me. A change of seasons calls for a few new additions to the wardrobe so off I toddled to the Ladies Ware section. And… meh…really it was a bit of a let down.
The lingerie section was poor… I only found one bra in my size and it was £65! A little pricey for my liking. The main fashion area was packed and although I found a couple of items I wanted to try on, I wasn’t overwhelmed by the selection.
The changing rooms were filthy. I know its the end of the day but it doesn’t take long to give them a keep sweep and keep them looking tidy. The girl that was supervising the changing rooms looked like she had somewhere better to be. Now, I’m sure she probably did on a Saturday evening, but if you are being paid to work please do not huff and scowl at your customers.
The shoe department was just utter chaos. No seats left and I had to wait for about 10 mins to get one of the assistants to find a pair of shoes for me. On trying them on I realised I needed a bigger size, but after another 10 minutes with no assistance I couldn’t take it anymore and left.
Great store, just let down by the customer service.

John Lewis is situated in Liverpool ONE and is one of the main buildings here. John Lewis has been for a long time, something of a British institution.
It has everything you would expect from a large upmarket department store. The departments include Toys & Games, men’s wear, baby & children’s wear, ladies wear, gifts, sports & leisure, stationary, wedding services, café, home & garden, electrical and gifts.
I have spent many an hour just wandering around this massive store without actually buying anything. The ladies section is just a bit out of my price range. The brands stocked here are mostly designer brands and come with a matching price tag. I have bought things here when i have been searching for a wedding outfit though, as the clothing is classy and refined and very suited to this sort of occasion.
The store is clean, tidy, air conditioned and classy. The staff are warm and friendly and are happy to show you to any section you are looking for. The café is not cheap but is very clean and tidy and the food available is well prepared, generous and very tasty.
John Lewis also offer a range of personal services such as home design, fashion advice, fitted kitchens, bespoke upholstery, gift lists, lingerie advice, PC & TV installation, nursery advice, personalised stationery and blinds & curtain services.
If you fancy a wander round, with plenty to look at, then have a look inside John Lewis. The products won’t be in everyone’s budgets but the store is excellent.

The John Lewis store in Liverpool One really does the chain proud as it is a shining beacon of how a department store should be run. There are a large number of people who simply use this place as a walk way from the prominent car park which joins onto this place and the staff are very patient in their handling of this situation. It must be frustrating to have large numbers of people walking through your establishment with no real intention of buying anything however the staff here show no signs of frustration and are always polite and professional.
As with all John Lewis stores the value here is good and the product range is classy and extremely varied. It always astonishes me for a store of this size how well kept and well organised it is and this is a tribute to the staff who do a sterling job.
A great store which really does a British institution proud.

John Lewis’ new shiny home at Liverpool 1 covers all your bases for home, beauty and make –up, electronics and fashion. But as with all department stores — as I would not like to single John Lewis out for any mistreatment — they do seem to spread themselves a bit thin.
You can pretty much find any of the big brands within which ever department it is you are looking but there’s little to compare and contrast these with beyond another 2 or 3 brand items. In this respect JL is always reasonably priced for said items — I’m pretty sure they still have a price guarantee too? — but these will usually be the top brands so the expense is relative.

Even though John Lewis is just another one of those big department stores, the Liverpool ONE branch is a fairly impressive one as it shadows the smaller surrounding stores — not to be compared. But it is hard not to automatically walk through John Lewis, since it is eye-​attractively fantastic both on the inside and the out. And this is exactly what you would expect for a store of this calibre.
You will not be disappointed when you enter a shop of many floors containing such variety, whether it’s fabulous furniture or terrific technology to tickle your temptation. With stunning displays, necessary demos plus excellent customer care and facilities (e.g. state-​of-​the-​art Dyson hand dryers in their toilets — the best I’ve come across!), quality is everything.
It is so easy to spend a great deal of time at this store and be spoilt for choice wherever you gaze.
John Lewis is a marvellous store with a top reputation. It is also a store where you can put trust in their products which is always an important factor.

In a recent interview, Everything But The Girl singer Tracey Thorn proclaimed: ‘I don’t really see the point of shopping. You can get everything you need from John Lewis.’
Having just visited the company’s swanky Liverpool ONE branch, I’d be inclined to agree with her. A glistening glass tower, it’s immaculately laid out with floors devoted to womenswear, menswear, childrenswear, lingerie and nightwear, shoes and sportswear. There’s also special sections devoted to household appliances, electronics, furniture, home décor, plants and gifts. Admittedly, products are slightly pricier than other department stores but the quality and materials are often better and John Lewis offer exceptional customer service.
Personally, I could spend hours looking through the womenswear department where Orla Kiely and Ted Baker dresses are scattered between East, Bertie, Hobbs and Whistles skirts and blouses. They even have a couple of new designs by ethical label People Tree. To paraphrase Tracey, you really can get everything you need from John Lewis.

This John Lewis is a refreshing update from the old store (formerly known as George Henry Lees). Its wide floors are uncluttered and the ever well dressed staff are a comforting background presence. Shopping at John Lewis is a carefree experience and the Liverpool One store demonstrates this brilliantly. Even on the busiest of weekends when much of Liverpool One is packed full and you have to fight through hordes of shoppers, John Lewis remains calm and collected allowing you to shop in peace.
However at John Lewis you will often end up paying a premium for the excellent service and long warranty. You probably will find much of there products cheaper elsewhere and yet it is still preferable to shop here as the returns and warranties are miles better than elsewhere.

John Lewis stands proud at the end of the relatively newly built Liverpool ONE. It is the sort of place I walk into even if I’m not looking for anything in particular but just fancy a browse. John Lewis must sell literally everything, a ridiculously expensive price, but it does have everything.
I love walking around the fragrance department spraying everything and getting evil looks from the staff accompanied by a very patronising «are you looking for something in particular?». Another favourite of mine is checking out the sofas and beds — my future bed is currently sitting in a John Lewis store.
On the plus side, I did get the Mario & Sonic Winter Olympics Wii game for £20.

Big, friendly, lovely John Lewis full of lovely, friendly staff (not all of them big) and big, lovely (although not strictly friendly) shelves full of needful stuff. Whether you want a flatscreen HD television, some fancy dan crockery or a new designer shirt this is the place to get it.
The shop offers a range of great services including gift wrapping, carry-​to-​car for those extra large purchases and the legendary (in my family at least) wedding list service. The upstairs restaurant is among the best places to eat in the whole of the centre of Liverpool — from a wedge of apple cake to simple but delicious sausage or bacon baps to tender beef bourguignon and lasagne.
Even if you just end up walking round here admiring the stacks and racks and shelves of wonderfulness with your jaw scraping the floor this is a must on any visit to Liverpool One. Fantastic.
