As you may have read in my previous Unilocal,I feel a lot can be established from the front of a shop. It’s the first thing a customer sees and can make a lasting impression on them that will almost certainly impact their experience once they enter. Bearing this in mind,(New) Ko Sing restaurant doesn’t make the greatest of first impressions. The sign itself is very faint and faded, a bit like an old childhood photo that’s been left facing the sun for several years and has now gone a funny colour. Whilst this is a restaurant, we’ve always ordered takeaway from here instead(the sign debacle, first impressions, etc) and we’ve always found the food to be pretty average. They offer the usual wide range of Chinese food but in an area where Chinese takeaways are ten to a penny,(New) Ko Sing really doesn’t stand out much. I’ve never dined in here but judging by the presentation of the front of the shop, I wouldn’t ever really want to. In the window they offer ‘crazy’ banquets. Not really sure what’s crazy about them though, they seem pretty normal to me. Not bad, but there’s better nearby in the immediate area.

Only recently, when a leaflet advertising«NEWKOSING» was posted through my door, did I realise that this establishment was not just a chinese takeaway, but a restaurant. Of course, the delivery service is still available Mon– Sat 5.30−10.30 and free on orders over £12 but if you want to dine out head to Ko Sing, you’ll burn some of those calorific meals off en route home! The menu is extensive with around ten beef, chicken, and seafood dishes as well as lamb, duck, and char sui dishes. The Dim Sum is pretty standard: spring rolls, salt and pepper chicken wings, prawn rolls etc these range from £2 to £12.50. All main meal are under £6 and include rice or chips. The English dish options are quite sparse with a choice of sirloin steak or an omelette, but this is a Chinese restaurant! Banquets are available from £8 a head. Lots of offers are available, ranging from free prawn crackers to a free botte of wine.

This Chinese restaurant has been there for years and is very good. The staff are so friendly and the food is delicious. You can have a banquet for a very reasonable price. The service is often quite slow so its best to go a bit earlier than planned but the food makes up for it and as it is upstairs there is no wheelchair access.
