Great food, fresh. Brilliant selection of drinks. Slightly over priced, friendly staff though(usually)

I love the atmosphere here. I came on a Sunday and it was packed, but the service was still excellent. Very lively atmosphere, but still quiet enough to have a decent conversation with the person next to you. Great music selection as well! The desserts are great and the tea was fine(I’m not a big tea drinker yet, so don’t take my opinion). I look forward to coming back, because the brunch plates that I saw looked fantastic!

Amazing breakfast! This place is super hipster, but I’m totally fine with that. I love the casual, relaxed atmosphere. The concept works well — you claim a table, go up to the counter and order and pay then you go sit down and they bring you your food. We went for a Sunday brunch, and left full and satisfied! I had the pancakes. They were divine! Super fluffy with just the perfect amount of crisp edges, topped with yoghurt and a fruit compote. Heavenly! My husband had their English breakfast, which was also delicious. I had a chai latte(get their teas — that’s what they’re known for!) and this latte was one of the best I’ve ever had! Just the right amount of spice and creaminess! I also had an orange juice, which was perfection — freshly squeezed vitamin C! If I’m ever back in Liverpool — I’ll go here!

LEAF began as a small tea shop run by friends in a Liverpool city centre gallery in 2007. Now they are nestled in the heart of Bold Street, spread over 2 spacious floors with couches, café and acoustic stage downstairs and an upstairs that transforms between being an art gallery, live gig venue, and very flexible event space.

By far my favorite café in the UK thus far! Came to Liverpool for a few days with my friend during the Rugby World Cup 2015 and thoroughly enjoyed our experiences at Leaf. This place has a ton of space — three floors! On the ground level(main) there are a ton of seating options and a «bar» to order food, coffee and/or booze. The baristas/waiters are helpful and friendly. The space is decorated tastefully but might remind you of something you’d see in Anthropology or Urban Outfitters. first visit we came around breakfast time. Order a simple full-breakfast platters with toast with eggs — one traditional English, the other vegan to try some variety. Everything was presented and executed well both in taste and texture. My friend ordered his daily latte and loved it. I tried one of the roobos teas from Africa and was surprised that I liked it since I’m not an herbal tea person. Our second trip — later in the evening the same day — we went upstairs to an event we saw online called Superhero Poetry Slam, supporting local artists. Like on the ground level, there’s a bar that serves alcohol but not food so new customers are warned — this is one of the only issues I had with this venue/café. After the show we ended up staying for a late dinner downstairs so all in all it worked out. If I lived in Liverpool or visited again, this would be my first choice of cafes.

Lovely place to relax and have a coffee or a tea. The food is also excellent and a personal favourite would have to be the Eggs Benedict. Does get very busy but there are two floors of seating.

The cinnamon porridge was one of the best breakfast foods I have ever had. Served in a large bowl(plenty to fill you up), the porridge is infused with creamy cinnamon goodness, drizzled with a bit of tasty jam. The jam is there to add some sweetness, but the fruitiness in no way mitigates the cinnamon delight. This is all I ordered on my visit and it was plenty.

Well this really is quite something: a punky, rough edged ‘tea shop’ on trendy Bold Street. I went in twice. The first time is was too packed for me to feel comfortable. I like my space. I don’t like sharing. But I saw and felt enough affinity to try again next day at a less busy time. It was still pretty packed, but I found my space, spread the newspaper, chilled and selected what I wanted. I’d eaten already, so I went for Rose petal tea and cake. I hadn’t had Rose petal since my Brewsmiths days. It’s tricky to get right. It really is a gentle infusion that can stew way too easily. It came in a glass mini-cafetier. I would have liked a hot water top up to maximise the petals potency, but it wasn’t offered. Both drink and cake were good. Prices are about right without undue profiteering. I know the price of good tea. It’s a huge space over two floors. It really was busy. The food looked very good and nicely presented. Service was also fine: friendly and brisk. Leaf really did demonstrate that it’s all about the vibe. A tea shop with a different energy in the same location could really flop, but they seem to go from strength to strength. There’s a lot a budding tea/coffee owner could learn from this place.

Loved this café! Very nice atmosphere and good music. Employees were friendly and the menu was great too. The lavender earl grey tea and cinnamon porridge was excellent, and the perfect English breakfast for me!

An excellent little tea shop! I went with a few friends for breakfast– on a Sunday, and it was pretty busy but the staff were friendly and we was served efficiently. They have such a range of teas, I wanted to stay and try them all: P though it can be a bit expensive. The food!!! I was surprised at how amazing the food was there — definitely worth the price :) I liked the decoration around the shop, it had a comfy home-y feel to it My only issue is how noisy it can get– it is a small place and a lot of people do and will come to chat

Really nice place for food coffee or drink. Went for coffee and cake and the quality was pretty good. Didn’t have food but it looked nice! Prices were higher than average but it’s worth it. Staff friendly and helpful. Only complaint is the noise level, not somewhere to go if you want a bit of peace though !

Lovely place, amazing food, nice staff. A bit expensive, as in East London prices… We had salmon and scrambled eggs(one of the best ones I’ve tried, and I always order that), and the vegetarian breakfast(«the hallumi was amazing», says my veggie friend). The huge wooden tables to share are always a funny relaxed option.

Leaf is such a pretty place to go for lunch or grab some tea. Being from Hawaii, I’m not used to seeing such posh cafes/bars. I was impressed with the minimalist front and the pretty décor inside. My mother and I wanted to try their tea so badly so we grabbed some menus and found a table. It was lunch time, so we ordered the linguine with tiger prawns and saffron and a beet salad. Both were alright. The beets were a bit dry and the pasta was not as flavorful as I thought it would be, but that could be because I’m so used to bold flavors here in the islands. As for the tea, I enjoyed every bit of it. I ordered the chai tea. It smelled so sweet but tasted rich and wasn’t sweet at all. I wish I had more time to try the green and white teas. Although my one-time experience here was brief, I enjoyed the friendly and artsy atmosphere and hope to visit again.

Stumbled across this place and really liked the look of the menu so we gave it a try ! It was very busy and we had to order at the bar, which took a while but the good came very quickly after we had ordered, we were spoilt for choice as everything looked good, we opted for the Greek mezze platter to share and a portion of deep fried goats cheese, they were both excellent, the Houmous was a little bland but the falafel and the bread were lovely and very fresh, it’s a really quirky place and I would definately go back next time I’m in Liverpool

OK. So everything here cost’s a dollar more than the chain pub fare. The menu doesn’t look all that inspired, just«trendy.» At £6.50 one can get a cheaper breakfast, but not a better deal. The biggest deal at Leaf is that the food is impeccable. It comes out looking like the regular full English Breakfast, only better, more appetizing in appearance. You’re slightly embarrassed to say that you just might like that traditional English breakfast this morning. That’s the story, nothing unusual. Just unusually good. Everything served at Leaf is amongst the best or better than you ever had. It’s the modern independent pub. New cuisine methodology will work on the old fare. Better come early, before 10am or be prepared to queue up. The word is out and the creatives near Liverpool One show up at Leaf on Bold. Congrats for getting everything right.

Amazing place. You can go any hour in the day, and you will find a nice surprise. If you want to take a good tea, drink a beer, check your mails in your laptop, eat something, listen live music or just meet with your friends. This is the place! I recommend the egg florentine for brunch the weekends! Cute vintage decoration.

I’ve fallen so madly in love with Leaf that I’m not sure where to start! Leaf is a tea shop that specialises in just that — tea — but it ‘s also a fantastically arty spot that holds chess days, live performances(The Wombats spring to mind) and vintage fairs. The Wombats claim that they had Leaf hummus every day when they were recording This Modern Glitch, so I had to see how good it was! After looking at their website, Leaf was literally number one on my priority list when I next went to Liverpool — and it charmed my socks(sorry, seamed tights) off! I had coriander and lemon hummus with Tea of the Week, silver needle with mint, and it was literally the best thing I’d ever had — cue daydreaming about it for the next few hours… What more can I say? It’s furnished with long wooden tables, chalk boards, dressers, bicycle-print chairs… it’s sociable, but not noisy… vegan options are made clear… the servers are super nice! There is just something really romantic about sitting at a sturdy wooden table with tea and a good book, seeing people playing chess around you, and looking at a counter with glass and cake stands and countless types of tea — fantastic. If I miss my offer for the university, Leaf will be one of the aspects of Liverpool I miss most sorely!

Leaf has moved, take note! I discovered when I dragged my mate, who isn’t even a fan of teas other than Tetley through the streets of Liverpool, only to realise on arrival, that the tea shop has relocated from its way out location in a converted warehouse on Parliament Street to its new prime spot on Bold Street. Only one street away from where we had originally started out on our trek for tea incidentally. But once we eventually made it inside it was totally worth the trauma to find it. Its a much bigger venue now, with small seats by the window, long tables down the middle and even a small nook tucked to one side with massive chairs to snuggle up in, something for everyone really. The drinks menu obviously focuses on loose leaf teas, but there is also a selection of coffees, soft drinks, draught and bottled beer and wine. My mate initially tried to order a latte with a shot of some sort of syrup in, resisting the urge to try a tea, but here at Leaf, they do the standard Coffees, Americano’s, etc and that is all, they couldn’t make her a low fat, foam, soy, shot of vanilla blah blah blah, leave that to the generic coffee house down the street I guess, ‘our speciality is teas here’ the lovely girl behind the bar informed her. I was so happy! So we sat down with our list of loose leaf teas and whilst I couldn’t decide between at least 8 different teas on the menu, my mate struggled to pick just one. Cherry Blossom, Blood Orange, Bohea Lapsang, Organic Silver Needle, Jasmine Chun Hao, even flowering teas like Flowering Asmanthus, I went for an Organic Gunpowder Supreme and my mate ordered Morrocan Mint. But then my mate tasted her tea and suddenly became a convert, she loved it and took another look at the menu and started to decide which one she would be trying next on her return visit, it was that quick. See, leaf isn’t just a tea shop, they also have a great menu serving breakfast from 9 – 12 week days and all day at the weekends, including gluten free, vegetarian and vegan options, main meals including soups, salads, scouse(of course) and chili’s are among some of dishes are on offer from 12−9pm daily. But there is more. .. open until midnight Sunday until Thursday and open till 2am Friday and Saturday, there is an open mic night every Tuesday, live bands and DJ’s at the weekend too. So you could seamlessly move from a pot of Lady Grey and a good book late afternoon, to a bottle of house red and some live music come the evening. But there is more. .. they have a craft club, where you can every month craft experts come to give lessons in knitting, beadwork, making keyrings etc, while a DJ spins tunes in the background. They also put on art and craft sales for local designers, sometimes on a Saturday they have a fashion swap and on the last Sunday of every month, there is Retro Sundays, a vintage and retro fashion and homewares fair. A case of doing too much but nothing too well, doesn’t seem to be the case, primarily its a tea bar, people initially come here for a good old cup of tea and you get that, and like its says on the wall ‘Where there is tea, there is hope’ and a place in Liverpool I shall be returning to time and time again.

The second Sunday of every month, Leaf Top Shop & Bar host a free event involving local artists and craft makers. Different artists take part each month and there’s usually small demonstrations and workshops to show how they create and customised their work. Customers are encouraged to visit the Elevator art studios above Leaf to see work in progress and there’s stalls selling screen and giclee prints, mixed media pieces, paintings, ceramics and jewellery. If you’re a partner isn’t as arty as you, there’s plenty of sofas in Leaf where they can chill out with a pot of chai and the Sunday papers whilst you browse.
