The Nation was a fun little adventure for a Wednesday night in Liverpool. Though much of the city seemed pretty empty at night, this club was filled to the brim of all sorts of people, many of whom were quite attractive and young. The six pound cover, however, was a bit of a surprise for a Wednesday night, and seemed a tad ridiculous; however, the DJ talent present there that night really justified it, and both rooms were full of loud, well-selected and mixed music, with the main one primarily doing house, and the side room devoted to more of a pop-rap mix, either one would provide a great experience for a Wednesday night here, rivalling even London’s superclubs in a fun time.

Love Nation. Not open enough though and tends to be too packed when it is open sadly. Not a smoker myself but tend to hear smokers bitching on other sites that there are not enough smoking areas. These are probably same inconsiderate people that light up on the dance floor.

Once, Nation was the Mecca for Britain and indeed Europe’s clubbers. If it is possible for those unfamiliar with the Cream craze to imagine Beatlemania as filtered through a haze of psychotropic chemicals and smiley happy saucer-eyed chops, this was its home. Now Nation is more like a gun for hire, a massive 3 room venue to host all nighters for some of the city’s next generation of club nights and promoters of all styles and genres that can see breaks and electro one week followed by speedgarage the next. It’s probably still the place to go for a really big night out on one of the year’s bank holiday weekends and hosts the big Boxing Night(Liverpool’s biggest night of the year) celebrations.

Nation and in particular its’ wednesday night celebration of debauchery medication is THE student night out in Liverpool. If you are a student in the merseyside area and you do not visit nation on wednesday at least once then you will have lived a shell of a student existence. The place itself resembles an old bomb shelter and may have been just that, in the modern day though it is a mass of sweaty, drunken, carefree students who are dressed in all manner of bizarre costumes and enjoying there night to its’ fullest. Nation captures the community feel like no place I have ever visited, the text service to the big screen brings the banter and the fancy dress themes bring the craziest of feels to any wednesday night. The prices are okay five pound in and drinks about normal price for a big establishment, but believe me it is worth every penny. I have often woken up after a night at medication dressed in a strange outfit and smelling rather unsavoury but having the best of memories(if I can remember anything at all that is). It has three huge rooms a smoking area numerous bars and is generally a maze of mayhem GOSEEITTHISWEDNESDAY !

Nation is easily the biggest night spot in Liverpool. Its 2 vast rooms are arguably more like warehouses than dance floors and this promotes a rave atmosphere in the crowd underneath the giant disco balls. The main room has a raced floor with a sound system built into this and hosts some huge names at its ‘cream’ night which now happens just 4 times a year to keep demand up. If you do head to one of the big DJ nights which can cost up to £25, make sure you get there early and into the main room as they often over sell forcing people to go into the cheese room and miss the main act, not something you will want to do having spent allot of money to see someone! When there isn’t a big night on the Wednesday nights ‘medication’ is the biggest student night out in Liverpool. £5 entry and an almost limitless capacity usually ensure a great atmosphere, however make sure you do you drinking elsewhere as the bar queues in nation are huge and there is a very poor selection of a few bottles and spirits on offer.

Home of the world famous Scouse brand Cream and the scene of many a nights gone really really wrong in the rightest of ways. Nation is a massive venue stretched over three rooms– each big enough to be named individually(The Annex, Main Room and The Courtyard). There is also a seated balcony area filled with bean bags and low slung sofas for anyone feeling a little clubbed out. When filled to capacity and headed up by a superstar guest DJ there isn’t a club in the country with the atmosphere generated here. But as all good clubbers know– the downside always follows the up. When a night falls flat at Cream its size can really work against it as you tend to need a telescope to find your dancefloor neighbour, and if you lose your friends then all bets are off, just head for the taxi rank and try not to get frightened by the War of the Worlds style giant art installation outside. In a bid to counter such ‘flat’ nights Cream owner James Barton now sensibly restricts his famous baby to 4 outings a year and this really has helped bring back that mid nineties sense of occasion to nights at Nation. Get your dose of nostalgia for a time you wished you saw at the next event in the calender. Irony-free glo-sticks can be bought at each of the 5 bars and the queue for the toilets is just the way they used to like it– long and slow.

This place is just round the corner from Fact Cinema and Art gallery(although it’s pretty unlikely you’d be going straight from one to the other!) This is the super club of Liverpool, former host of Cream in Liverpool, and now moved on to some equally hardcore nights. It is a really big club that plays host to some of the top DJs in the country. To someone like me who is not really into hardcore dance music, it’s just ok but I believe it can be the place to go for some cracking nights out– student nights as well.

Nation is the venue that used to host CREAM. The club itself is used for many different purposes now, including a student night in the week. The venue is MASSIVE, it has three(or more!) huge rooms, and the smoke machines give a good atmosphere. It is often really busy especially on big nights such as Hed Kandi etc. The problem is after a drink or 2, its that big you really really can get lost in it! The venue is out of the main zone of bars, and prob a 5min walk or 10mins in heels(!) well worth a visit for the big names in clubland
