This place is the sh*t. Having been disappointed by D’Flava — I still think I just caught them at the wrong time — I was eager to get some real chicken and rice because for anyone who has had West Indian food will know it’s damn addictive. Early on a Saturday afternoon and the place was already busy, although it is a very small café. The music and atmosphere was good like everybody was enjoying the weekend and looking forward to saturday night. I got the Brown Stew Chicken and even a half potion with rice and pea was a good healthy size as you expect from Carribean cooking and at £2.50 was the best bargain I have found in ages. Spicy, home cooked happy food.

For a tiny Caribbean café it’s packed full of flavour. Located on Smithdown Road If you can’t be bothered to cook, forget the usual take-away suspects that line this student part of town and get down to Raggas because both price and taste wise, you will not regret it. With a range of unusual mains from Fried Snapper to Curried Goat it is well worth a visit and much better for you than a pizza! All mains are traditionally served with rice and peas,(whopping portions of rice!) and to take out a ½ portion, which is more than enough really unless you are really craving some comfort, is only £2.50 and for a full portion most are £5.00 with only the Oxtail and Ackee n Saltfish at £3.00/ £6.00. Seriously, this is some good eating so if you fancy some homemade Caribbean cuisine, this is the place. I’d recommend splashing out a little extra for the saltfish, it is melt-in-your-mouth gorgeous. It’s probably best to get the food to take-out as although it’s friendly enough inside it is rather cramped and there isn’t much seating. They do a free local delivery service on orders of over £6.00.
