I feel very honoured and well qualified to write a review for this outstanding café! Been a customer for 30 years! Never had a bad meal or drink and always had a smile from staff what more can you ask for!!!

Used to regularly pop in here for an Americano and a newspaper while I waited for a bus over to Blackheath Village(53, 54, 202 bus-stops are 50m away). Good coffee, probably the best in the Standard area. Café itself recently cut down its floorspace(presumably cutting costs), but it still retains some of the tired 1950s-style décor that has led to it being used as a film location(2009 release«The Boat That Rocked» about Radio Caroline). Food is basic café fare — all-day breakfasts, cheese-on-toast, omelettes, anything and chips — but is always piping hot, and very reasonably priced. Good place to bring the kids for some ‘fast food’ that isn’t MacDonalds, etc, and it’s also popular with ‘school mums’ after the morning school run. Support small local businesses — go to Gambardella’s!

This place is the definition of cheap and cheerful and is a fond favourite for everyone living in the blackheath standard area, particularly anyone indeed of a good fry up! Part of the interior is made up from an old Lyons tearoom which gives it a retro feel inside and the food(which is all traditional ‘café’ fare) is nicely made and tasty. They do a very good childrens menu(sausages, chips and beans that sort of thing) and it is about the cheapest place you could ever want to eat! They do really good poached eggs which can be hard to find in greasy spoons. And you can’t beat their teas and coffees, they have a cappucino machine as well if you want to eurotrash your great English fry up!
