Bake-A-Boo

Bake-​A-​Boo is a gorgeous little tea shop in West Hampstead, which is great for groups (we had a whole section at the back to ourselves). It’s colourfully and prettily decorated and the whole vibe is very nice.
I’m not sure which of the afternoon teas we had but it was nicely presented and served promptly along with tea and prosecco (I think I got two glasses). I tried lapsang tea for the first time and really enjoyed it. The sandwiches and cakes however I didn’t think were that great. Although there were four choices for the sandwich most of them seemed to be hummus and the bread was dry. The cupcakes and scones were dry too. I did enjoy the chocolate covered strawberries, good addition to the classic components of afternoon tea.
I disproportionately enjoyed the cupcake-​decorating part of the event, it is truly joyful to spend 30 minutes doing nothing but sticking lurid sweeties on top of fairy cakes. Recommended! We got four to take home which was appreciated by the family. In future I only want to do hen party/​baby shower activities that involve food. No more crafting!
Overall if you’re looking for a really great afternoon tea, go to the Dorchester (Spatisserie). If you want somewhere convenient to NW London that’s a pleasant space then Bake-​A-​Boo is ok but don’t expect really great bakes.

In love with this place ! Being from the States, it was my first «afternoon tea» experience and I was very satisfied! We were a bit late thanks to the tube, but from the very beginning the staff was extremely forgiving, helpful, and very friendly. The food was so cute and absolutely delicious– finger sandwiches including cucumber sandwiches, humus and greens, egg salad, cheese sandwiches– that all had a nice sauce or mayo to them. Scones and cupcakes were perfectly baked with great accompanying jam and butter; couldn’t have a been a better variety of bites. In addition, there was a wide selection of tea and you could get it refilled unlimitedly. I even bought my favorite flavor to take home it was so great! Very reasonably priced, adorable setting in a to die for shop, and all around fantastic experience. Highly recommended !

Gluten free, dairy free afternoon tea?! Oh how I love you, Bake-​A-​Boo (and my best friend for organising this surprise for my birthday this weekend)!
This place is amazing. I love the décor, very cute and British with teacups on the walls, mismatched cups and saucers, cute tea pots. You get the picture!
Because I also have an intolerance to yeast, my friend had discussed to have it also sandwich free! They’d replaced the sandwiches with more cake. The staff were so helpful and lovely, and the cakes and scones were just delicious. Especially the coconut cream that goes on the scones. Who said gluten and dairy free food couldn’t taste amazing?!
They had a hen party in when we were there — such a great idea! Bake-​A-​Boo even has a little dress up box for such events! How fun! (The hens were lovely and not the stereotypical loud, drunken kind)!
Bake-​A-​Boo is about the experience on the whole… going for afternoon tea is always such a treat and it really lives up to this expectation at Bake-​A-​Boo.

I organised to come here for my mothers 50^th birthday as a special treat. Her and my dad were over here visiting from Australia.
I emailed Bake-​a-​boo as soon as I found out they served an afternoon tea for the gluten and dairy intolerant.
I was sooooo excited to come here, and super excited to be able to share the experience with my mum. As i’m used to going to places like this and not being able to eat anything
The shop was super cute inside, and had teacups and floral table clothes, and lace, and dollies everywhere, dad felt right at home, haha. They have tons of teas to choose from, so many different varieties. Dad didn’t enjoy his ‘perfume’ water, lol, but mum and I had a great time sampling a few different flavours.
FOOD TIME!!! And boy oh boy was I surprised to find I had my own little tower of gluten and diary free deliciousness. It started with egg, and cucumber sandwiches on the bottom, followed by scones with jam and butter, followed by an almond and raisin cake, and finished with a cupcake and chocolate coated strawberries. DELICIOUSNESS!!!
I am very excited to take future visitors here for an afternoon of yummmy treats!

Great cakes, lovely atmosphere, they do amazing gluten-​free & dairy free birthday cakes to order. I used them for my hen do and they did a lovely afternoon tea for my hens. I persuaded my bridesmaids to pick them over a top London hotel (which also did gluten-​free teas) for its reasonable prices and personal touch. My only warning is not to go there when you have a deadline, such as a plane to catch! I went there once with just such a friend and it coined the phrase ‘Bake-​a-​boo time’. For any C.S.Lewis fans, this is the opposite of Narnian time. As you sip your hot chocolate and munch on their goodies, the environment so lends itself to free-​flowing chat that when it seems like only minutes have gone by, someone dreamily remembers the aforementioned deadline, another looks at their watch only to discover the whole afternoon has gone by, a rude jolt back to reality. Try Bake-​a-​boo but if in doubt, take an alarm clock!

Depends if u just want a place to meet your girly friends or if u are coming here for the food.
It is a very nicely decorated café with colourful/​lace buntings and with pretty vintage tea pot/​cups. friendly staff. It has an enclosed area at the end we saw a bunch of girls having a party there while we were there. They organizes a range of workshops from cupcake decorating to flower arrangement.
It has quite a nice range of tea to choose from but the cakes are very average. the afternoon tea tower includes boring sandwiches e.g. cucumber/​egg/​cheese. scones that are not quite buttery enough, cupcakes that are wayyyy too sweet, .then they filled it up with biscuits from the supermarket!!! I think that’s like committing a sin for a local café!!! baking biscuits/​cookies are so easy and they are too lazy to do that? There was also brownies with chocolate coated strawberry which was the best part about it.
I wouldn’t go again personally.

Oh goodness. I know these reviews always start with something like, «I really wanted to like this place, but…». Sadly, that’s exactly how I feel. It looked so cute from the outside. The concept is great. But the cupcakes. Oh man. They are quite bad. I tried a vegan chocolate cupcake. After being a vegan for nearly 10 years, I’ve tried my fair share of vegan baked goods. This cupcake was severely lacking. The cake was dry and bland. The frosting was pure sugar. So sad! We also tried a fairy cake, which was insanely sugary. The frosting was just gross. It was like sugar mixed with water and dye. Yuck. The yellow cake was alright, but also dry. Perhaps everything was a bit old. They should really try frosting with buttercream (or the vegan equivalent) or some cream cheese frostings. I won’t be going back for cupcakes, but might try one of their classes. It’d be a cute place to hang out, have a cup of coffee, and read the paper.

I can’t rate properly yet as i haven’t yet been but I’ve contacted them to enquire about their ethical food policies and I was really very impressed by the quick and detailed response, their obvious care about what they do and commitment to providing a good service.
A group of us will hopefully soon be going, and I’ll be sure to report back when we do.
I give them four for the moment because so far the response from them has been wonderful and they offer a wide range of cakes catering for every dietary need and dietary choice.

The moment we stepped foot into this place, me, Lizzie and Linzi burst into a fit of high-​ptiched squealing and collective «awwwwws». Everything here is sooo cute and pink but not in a nauseating kind of way. Instead the shop is really charming and cosy.
There was a large selection of teas to choose from. I rather enjoyed my jasmine tea. Their cupcakes are pretty good. Their tea kettle shaped biscuits were very good. Their scones were okay. They would have been better if the fluffy white mountain in the bowl beside them was actual clotted cream instead of whipped cream. But we can’t all perfect, can we?

It was a long time coming, but I finally made it to bake-​a-​boo!
The shop itself is a real cutesy, girly-​girl type affair — which I love! Pink shop front, gorgeous vintage mirrors, lovely little tables and chairs outside, lace curtains, mismatched teapots, mismatched cups and saucers and so on. Really very pretty.
Our group had a lovely little area at the back of the shop, which was sectioned off by a long lace curtain, which was nice and private — this would be great for a little birthday afternoon tea party.
The afternoon tea itself though, was disappointing. The scones were dry (definitely not fresh), they came with whipped cream, as opposed to clotted cream (the sacrilege!) which I thought was a little strange, given that you have to book afternoon tea in advance, which would allow them adequate time to stock up on the traditional accompaniment to scones… the finger sandwiches were boring, they all kind of tasted the same, the banana cake didn’t really do it for me, and, rather annoyingly, the tea strainer, did not strain the tea. Also, I’m not sure if there was enough tea in my teapot, because for the duration of time that it was brewing (we were there for perhaps 1.5 hours) it just didn’t seem to be getting any stronger, and was actually a little watery.
That said, I thought the teapot-​shaped cookies were cute and yummy, and the cupcakes were pretty nice.
Unfortunately, despite loving the shop itself, I thought the afternoon tea at £12, left a little to be desired. Personally, it simply didn’t deliver me to taste-​sensation heaven as I had hoped. Bake-​a-​boo-​hoo.

I have died and gone to cute heaven! From Cath Kidson throws to vintage tea wear this place screams kitch.
But don’t be fooled this place isn’t just for grown-​ups, they have kids toys too so it’s a great place for all the yummy mummies in the area. I warn you though, don’t come here if you are on a diet. Seriously, there great tea to be drunk here but really it needs to be partnered with one of their beautiful cakes.
I came here for the Afternoon Tea and at £12 a head (£6 paid as a deposit) it was totally worth the money. We had a little sectioned off area at the back, with lace curtains for privacy (did I mention how cute this place was) and as we arrive all the food was laid out like a proper tea party, cake stands and crustless sandwiches. You then have a selection of teas, all loose leaf of course and all perfect. They seem to be bottomless too with the friendly staff offering to fill them up at any opportunity.
So here is my winge, and it really is tiny — I’m a dab hand at cooking myself and I have to say their scones were a tad on the dry side, piling on plenty of cream fixed this though, although it was whipped and not clotted (which is what I would have normally expected) and finally the tea strainer had holes that were a little too large so there was quite a bit of tea floating in my tea but I’d rather have that than a bag!
To sum this place up… well cute!
Please try if for yourself, it would be an ideal place for a birthday, or even just a great catch up with friend.

Absolutely adorable as the name, cute display, darling tables and close-​to but not over-​the-​top shabby chic décor and presentation imply.
It is absolutely charming… and a great but casual atmosphere for tea (none of the British formality I was fearing). Mismatched but adorable tea pots for example…
I thought the baked goods were good, but they didn’t blow my mind. I admit being a ridiculous snob about some things, and one of them is cupcakes. Hummingbird has stolen my cupcake heart and now I have expectations of perfectly moist cupcakes adorned with divine buttercream or cream cheese frosting. Bake-a-boo’s cupcake was a bit dense and dry and the icing was very sweet. Not an expert on scones, but will defer to Lizzie’s judgement there and desperate to try fabulous scones with clotted cream. Lastly, I am a snob for selections of homemade jams…
Don’t get me wrong, nice savories, cakes, and cookies. It’s not them, it’s me! Too much of a snob, I know. :(

Sitting in the middle of Mill lane, just beside some antique shops is this gem of a cake shop, I would give this shop 84 out of 10 if such a thing was possible. The service is brilliant, whoever has served me, their smile has been Everest like.
Their cup cakes are great, and they also serve other kinds of quirky cakes, muffins, brownies and sweets.
I have never had afternoon tea here, serve sandwiches scones and a list of teas, as well as and cup cakes. My girlfriend has been a few times with her girlfriends and she absolutely loves it.
I often stop but and get a few treats as I do like a treat myself with cakes, and other sweet thing alike. They also have treats for vegetarians, but I wouldn’t know about them as I am not a vegetarian, but it is good to know that they do so, and is really thoughtful I think.
Bake-​a-​Boo is really something out of the norm, everything is presented as if it’s an art piece. I love it, the only down side is that it is pink, can someone please tell me why cup cake shops are pink? I feel like Cinderella when I go in.

a lovely little place in an area of west hampstead that has maintained individual and independent shops. the wheat free and lactose free offerings set it aside from the other numerous places in the area. Ive not felt the service to be as friendly as it could be but hey, who goes there for friendly banter anyway? CAKE!

Tucked up all the way in West Hampstead, hidden away from the main streets of that area, is this darling petite place ‘bake-​a-​boo’.
What makes it even more special is that it isn’t your usual bake shop, tea room. No. It serves a scrumptious range of ‘speciality cakes’ which are made so that those with allergies such as gluten and wheat intolerance can, like everyone else, fully indulge in something that they should not be deprived of.
A lovely place to drop by on a Sunday afternoon for their Afternoon tea of finger sandwiches and scones. If you’re feeling super indulgent, or just feel like treating yourself for later, do buy some of their sweets, cupcakes or a slice of cake.
It is a very feminine quaint little place, and is also perfect for families to take their kids along for the ride.
Truly worth the trip.

This café is a delight! Beautifully designed and maintained, a feast for the eyes with so much attention detail, a very cosy atmosphere. The huge range of cakes are yummy with something for everyone. The banana cake with passion fruit icing is moist and moreish, one slice is never enough! All the cupcakes are pretty and delicious. I love having the afternoon tea — finger sandwiches, cupcakes and scones with jam and cream, there is no better way to spend a weekend afternoon with friends or you can be on your own with their great supply of magazines to keep you company. Can’t wait to go back!!!

We visited this small pink tea shop on West Hampstead on a sunny Saturday afternoon after deciding we really fancied some cake!
The café was staffed by teenagers who didn’t seem entirely interested in what they were doing, but the layout was lovely if a little childlike. Tea and cakes are presented on the type of china your grandma probably used to have and were yummy. We tried the victoria sponge and a cream tea. The scones were very small but you get two & some tea for £6. It tasted good which is the main point!
Although we didn’t indulge there was a large party at the back of the shop who had lots of cake stands filled with goodies which looked good! I think that requires an advance order. Everything was nice, but I can’t imagine that it’s really the 10^th best café in London!
For drivers there are spaces outside which are free on a Saturday, hooray!

The cutest coffee shop in the world. Perfect for little and big girls, everything is pink and pretty and flowery. They do beautful looking cupcakes that also taste good and cost around £1. The perfect afternoon tea experience. They also do catering.

The best café I ever been to. They do everything from afternoon tea to sugarfree cakes and parties for children. It doesnt matter if you have an allergy, they do glutenfree, dairyfree and wheatfree cakes. The fairy cakes are amazing and the décor is outstanding and very pink. Large selection of tea. Well worth a visit!
