Barons Court Theatre

Really nice little theatre with amazingly friendly staff.
I am currently performing here and am extremely happy with the situation.
There were some hygene issues previously, I understand, but after a big clear out its a lovely little place!
I’d definitely recommend this theatre for fringe pieces, the three sided audience set-​up is really interesting to play with, but it is a little out of the way, so if you want a decent audience– make sure you do your fair share of marketing!
As an audience member, lots of little fringe pieces happen here so it’s a great place to keep an eye on!

I have staged five plays here, one of which has now played 180 large scale theatres around the UK and is still going strong after opening there five years ago. I think also I did the one of ever comedy night they had there which Ron mentioned in previous response.
It is a small theatre, the actors are very close and it is everything a fringe venue should be. It means directors have to really look at sight lines and stage plays to suit the venue. Location wise it is 5 mins walk from West Kensington and Barons Court tube in a very expensive street of properties so no idea where a previous reviewer said about a mugging area. Go and watch a play there and see real London theatre!
There were some negative aspects which were more to do with the pub and not the theatre — toliet rolls in the gents never seem to be there and service is slow from the bar staff during an interval.
There are actually three exits and entrances to the stage not one and the fire escape signs are very clear and in fact are so well lit, it is impossible to have the theatre achieve total balckout as they are always on, so again not sure where that reviewer was coming from.
Always seems to get good houses in each night.

This little theatre is so incredibly cute and intimate, that during the performance one of the actors nearly landed on me. It also meant for serious professionalism during «Size 14!» (yours truly being an American size 14) when they caught my eye.
Yup, I too went to see Silence! the musical, and it was fabulous. Upstairs is the Curtains Up pub, a gastropub in the fashionable barons court area. The Bar snacks aren’t cheap, but they’re good.
Imperial Productions did an excellent job, although one of the pillars can spoil the view, the space is intimate and creates something incredibly atmospheric, with ingenious use of space, props, lighting and music interacting with excellent characterisation.
Silence of the Lambs really *does* work as a comedy musical. Now that’s scary.

This tiny, tiny little theatre nestled within the bowels of the Curtains Up pub, rightly has a famous standing throughout the performing arts scene. It can hold a capacity of around fifty people, whom are so close, so intimate with the action, it is all but impossible not to become fully engrossed in the show.
My visit gave me the opportunity to revel in the parody: Silence The Musical. It was an intellectual hoot and gripping through its sleek direction and execution by the actors. Songs such as «If I could smell her c@$#,» had the audience in fits of laughter as Tom Murphy (aka Dr Hannibal Lector) gave a sterling performance every time he stepped on stage. Talking about sterling performances, Charlie Cable was wonderful in her portrayal of Clarice Starling, and the synergy between Clarice and Lector was impressive. A special mention to Connor Brown as Buffalo Bill, whose ingenious characterization of the crazed lunatic left the audience in an emotional mêlée of laughter, shock and at times sheer amazement.
All in all a great show, with a fabulous cast in a superb venue. I am looking forward to the next theatrical instalment by Imperial Productions.

Very small theatre in the basement of the large pub upstairs, The Curtain’s Up. Quite a coincidence the name of the pub has a theatrical connotation, although originally I think this was a hangman’s term.
The basement is a bit like a nightclub or rock club, dark, sweaty, bare stone floor which is probably worth a fortune. I had the good fortune to see an excellent production of Hamlet here set on a council estate, i think it’s on for another week or so. Get down there! Great fight scene. The acoustics are very good as well.
The seats are clearly from an old cinema and very comfortable (although how clean is hard to say.)
Definitely would come here again, although I think the place is more suited to comedy rather than theatre, it would be a perfect stand up venue.
PS On a weird note, the management of the theatre took exception to this review, which doesn’t seem so bad to me. So here’s a more accurate review:
You will bang your head walking down the stairs. The theatre will stink of sweat. The reclaimed, threadbare cinema seats will be too dirty to sit in. The toilet will be blocked with excrement. There will be nowhere to dry your hands. There will be no clear fire escape. The actors will appear and disappear through the only exit. Because of the lack of leg room, your knees will lock up, like mine did, like they did in Islington’s screen on the green and you will be left in agony for at least the last hour of the play/​entertainment. You will leave the theatre in the freezing cold, pitch black night, miles from anywhere, and struggle to make it back to the tube station without being mugged.
There you go. I can make it even more accurate if that would suit?

A classic London Pub Theatre.
That is to say that this is a pub that you suddenly discover after an investigation down some narrow steps plays host to an awkwardly shaped performance space, that is very ‘intimate’ — read ‘very small’.
Having said that it does have a lot of character as a space, it has tiered seats on three sides, but often companies just use two sides.
It’s very much a dark basement that audiences and ators are stuffed into in the hope of discovering something good. Cheaper than the West End of course, but quality far from guaranteed.
The pub itself is alright. It’s in a lovely part of London, Queen’s tennis club is about 100 yards down the road.

Very small and intimate close up magic show, don’t be put off by it being situated under the pub, it’s an ideal venue to take children who are bound to be included in the magic show. Amazing tricks. We went on a Sunday afternoon and it was an ideal treat. The seats aren’t the most comfortable that I’ve ever sat on but you’ll be so engrossed with the tricks that you won’t even notice.
