I could eat here every week. After relocating to London from New York, and discovering there were a lot of decent restaurants, «but…». There’s always seemed to be a «but» when describing meals during the early days of exploring the London restaurant scene. So, it was delightful to find a local restaurant that could be straight out of Brooklyn. Bistro Union has an eclectic menu, where every dish seems to be tasty and well executed. Service is friendly, the atmosphere is laid back, and so this is a place you can relax in, while not compromising on the quality or seriousness of the food and wine. Enjoy —

Lovely little place. I have been here a few times for brunch, the brunch menu they serve is always amazing, the kind of stuff you didn’t know you wanted it till you’ve read it, the menus come in the blue material old 90’s school books were in. They always serve the food in quaint things, like odd tea pots and random plates, not sure if trying to hard or just right. Very Shoreditch… in Clapham. The price can get out of hand because the portions are small so that’s a little warning, but if you are in the area, you can probably afford it. They also have a whisky cabinet to store your whisky. As you do.

A lovely little restaurant on Abeville serving traditional British foods with a few twists. Went here the other day and had the fish pie which was really very good and my date had the lamb which he said was ok but nothing more. The service was great and friendly though!

I like the concept of Bistro Union but I don’t think it’s executed as well as it could be. The surroundings are laid back and cool, the prices less so. I think that their prices are just too high for the quality of the food served. Just my opinion, but I don’t think I’d return quickly. I was sad they’d run out of chicken too — my over priced mac n cheese did not compensate well enough.

They squeezed us in on a Saturday night, no reservation, within ten minutes notice. Major bonus points from the start! Everyone from the person who took our distress call, to those that greeted us as we walked through the restaurant, made us feel like gold. I wondered for a moment if we were famous then I came back to reality. Sort of… I’ll be the first to admit, I chose the restaurant because of its leadership and not because I heard good things about the food or that I wanted to eat at a bistro per se, and this is something of an oddity for me. I don’t even particularly like Haute Cuisine so I’m not sure what inspired me to be drawn to Bistro Union bc of it’s chef or owner. Maybe I wanted to see what someone who has reached that level could say about simple food, I really don’t know, but I’m glad I did. Everything was wonderfully prepared, from start to finish, with the exception of dessert. Still, all in all, I think they’ve done a wonderful job, embracing both the simple and yet so delicious. And that service… London, take note! We strolled along Abbeville Road looking into adverts at letting agencies and wondered if we’d be lucky enough to find a flat in the area. If we do, i know where our regular spot is going to be!

This place has the best customer service I have ever seen on this side of the pond!! And there is a great story behind it. So I came here weith two friends for Sunday brunch, and I ordered a roast duck whereas they ordered the Spanish omelette and bavette steak.(The bavette steak looked AMAZING by the way, I would definitely get that next time. The mushroom ketchup was also very unique, definitely worth a try.) We also got a round of bucks fizz/bloody mary. But then there was some miscommunication in the kitchen, so they brought out my friends’ dishes but didn’t bring mine out for more than 5 minutes after, so I had to ask about it, after which I was promised it in another 5 minutes. So in the meantime, they brought out a free large plate of chips. Then when my meal did come out, the chef came to personally apologize and offered us free ice cream after if we wanted any. The manager also came over a short while later and offered us another round of drinks on the house(we accepted of course). So at the end of the day, we got free sides, drinks, and dessert for a 10 minute delay. And the ice cream is SO good– we had marzipan and honeycomb and a berry vanilla, homemade and in the cutest little jar. Must have! Then after all that, they also took off the service charge from the bill! What unbelievable staff. The food is great but the staff definitely made the experience. Will definitely come back and hope to see the same people again!

I’m a huge fan of Bistro Union’s sister restaurant Trinity. Chef Adam Byatt has gone for a neighbourhood bistro feel with his new venture. Located on the trendy Abbeville Road area of Clapham, he has certainly hit the nail on the head as far as what the local population want in terms of brunch offerings judging from the crowds there on the Sunday I visited I was happy that I booked a table for my first date with my girlfriend to avoid said crowds even though we were politely ejected from our table at 3pm There is an innovative lineup of dishes for brunch, reflecting the chef’s penchant for British cuisine. The girlfriend and I decided to go with the small plates Well, Chef Byatt has done it again. Flavour is his watchword and we enjoyed a variety of dishes with clear, bold and distinctive flavours My favourite was the potted brown crab and the rabbit pâté. Rich, round flavours with satisfying umami content. The black pudding sausage roll was a revelation — nice sausagemeat with black pudding filling with a thin layer of crispy pastry. Devils on horseback combined sweet prunes with salty bacon, a classic combo The only slight disappintment was that the mac n cheese could have done with more cheese We would have loved to have tried some dessert but ran out of time

Just delicious. Half chicken and onglet were gorgeous… Particularly appreciated that they proactively realised the onglet was a touch small and brought more as a second helping. Great wine too.

Adam Byratt has done it again. Following the success of Trinity down in Clapham Old Town, which I hope will get a Michelin star very soon, he has opened up Bistro Union on Abbeville Rd. Went their for Sunday lunch yesterday and had an awesome Aubergine starter, followed by whole roasted Chicken which I shared with my friend. Food was accompanied with some great wine and we tried very tasty organic beer before we sat down. Dessert was the kids favourite — Knickerbocker Glory ;) Highly recommend both Bistro and Trinity, you will not be disappointed.
