I am unfairly comparing this to the places you get in Soho that do excellent coffee and organic sandwiches. Bittes tries to emulate this, but being in Finchley has to alter itself somewhat to cater for local tastes. Unfortunately it would appear the locals prefer burnt coffee. Everything else about this place is good, and admittedly it’s called bites, not sips, but if you’re going to have a coffee house you need to get the coffee right. Bites is so close yet so far! Come on guys, you can do better! :)

After my second visit to Bites Coffee House, I will not be returning. I have recently moved to the area, and I am very much into the support of local/indepedent businesses. I was enticed by Bites, the lovely food it had to offer, and the free WIFI that is advertised. As my girlfriend and I are new to the area, we do not have internet in our flat, and we both rely heavily on it for work purposes. We thought this would be a perfect spot. My first visit was pleasent, but the second time I was confronted by a rude member of staff who told me I needed to move to another table that I was working on. At this point I had already spent in excess of £10 on food and drinks, and a couple of days before I spent £15. i thought his mannerisms were very rude. When I confronted him about it, he just sighed and told me ‘its not ok’ for me to stay at the table. He then proceeded to get an extension lead for me to move to another spot, which was impossible and uncomfortable for me to use. I still plugged it into the wall where my girlfriend was sitting and he didn’t even apologize for the rudeness or the inconvenience. I shall not be going here again. There are other really great coffee houses in the area with much friendlier staff that offer a welcoming vibe. I’d suggest to visit those over Bites.

Friendly staff and a great range of food. Pity the coffee is so burnt and Yuck! It’s a nice space with comfortable chairs, free wifi and sky-light. The food is lovely and fresh and feels home baked, so a step above Starbucks.

I gave four stars. Really it should be three for the overall impression when you come in, and five for the overall feeling you have when you leave. It is a sandwish shop with a nice square well lit sit down area at the back where you pay £1.50 for a large mug of good coffee or £1 for a large glass of tea. Counter service only. They have wi-fi to tie in the tills with their computer and are looking for means of opening up part of the wi-fi for the customers. Nothing wild about the place but I like it as the staff are friendly and the coffee is good. Enough to bring me back. UPDATE They have won«Best Coffee House» award in the 2013 Grab and Go awards. Other winners with Grab and Go 2013 awards include Marks & Spencers and Café Nero. Not bad for a small private coffee bar in Finchley.
