BrewDog Shoreditch

Pretty crowded upstairs when we went and people were getting pretty rowdy outside. Decent beer for reasonable prices. One of the better bars we went to in London. After grabbing a beer here head downstairs though because they have a speakeasy bar called underdog! You have to go downstairs and turn left and there’s a door handle that may not be super obvious at first.

Beer fans of London ahoy! This is a fun (and seemingly always packed) bar/​brewery that ticks the boxes — a very decent beer selection and reasonable prices. Oh and amusing names too. I blinked twice when my date told me he wanted to Adopt a Bastard but turns out he was talking about a 7.2% ale (obviously). I went for a 6.7% light wheat beer named Custard Pie (oh to be the person getting paid to come up with these names…).
Very sensibly both of these strengths are served by the two-​thirds-​pint, with higher strength beers available in even smaller servings just to stop anyone getting too overexcited. The bar staff seem very down-​to-​earth and know far too much about the beers so ask them if you get stuck (or like us, just take a punt on the name you most want to say out loud!).
It’s a high-​energy place but you can have as big a night as you want — from the buzzing outdoor area to the sofa seating with board games. We luckily found a couple of high stools at a table in one corner — perfect to sip away and enjoy each other’s company relatively undisturbed despite it being a popular Friday night :)

Friendly place, great beers in bottle and tap. Im glad to see the craft brew movement taking firm hold in the UK. Im bringing back a few bottles to enjoy on the other side of the Atlantic.
This is not a traditional pub in feel but it was friendly and had a chill atmosphere and friendly helpful staff. I couldnt try any food however as the kitchen was closed.

A must pop in place when in London if you’re a beer lover. Haven for BrewDog’s delicious draft brews and also guest taps in a casual environment.

I would have loved to taste the food here, but I am celiac and they admit they can absolutely not offer me a single dish (no separate fryer, no salad).
Disappointing for a bar full of hipsters!

L’endroit est assez spacieux et se répartit sur plusieurs niveaux. Il y a également une terrasse sympa à l’entrée de l’établissement pour les fumeurs ou les soirées d’été.
A l’intérieur, des tables en bois, des chaises dépareillés, un esprit vintage et récup renforcé par la présence d’une dizaine de bornes d’arcade et de flipper vintage au sous-​sol.
La commande se fait au bar et si vous souhaitez manger un morceau, on vous servira à table.
Les amateurs de bières seront servi ! Un large choix leur est proposé des typique guiness anglaise, en passant par les IPA américaine ou encore des bières belges. Vous avez du mal à faire votre choix? Demandez au serveur à goûter des échantillons ! Il vous guidera avec plaisir dans votre choix.
On a passé une excellente soirée dans ce pub malgré notre petite mésaventure culinaire.
Nous avons commandé des burgers et né les voyant pas arriver au bout de 40 min, je suis allé checker au bar. On passait un si bon moment que nous n’avions pas vu le temps passer.
Après investigation le serveur revient nous expliquer qu’il est désolé car notre commande était prête depuis 20 bonne minutes, que la cuisine situé au sous sol l’avait envoyé dans le passé plat, mais c’était trompé d’étage !
Du coût nos burgers attendaient dans le passé plat et ils avaient eu le temps de refroidir… Le problème c’est que la cuisine ayant fermé depuis, ils né pouvaient pas nous en refaire.
Le serveur s’excusa plusieurs fois, nous dit tout de suite qu’ils allaient nous rembourser, qu’ils pouvaient si nous le souhaitions, nous faire réchauffer les burgers au micro-​onde et nous les servir (gratuitement donc). Et que pour s’excuser la maison nous offrait une tournée !
On a accepté les burgers réchauffés car on avaient trop faim et le verre offert. On nous a effectivement remboursé et bien que les burgers soient réchauffé, c’était pas trop mal. Les frites étaient moyennes mais le tout passait très bien.
On a vraiment apprécié le geste commercial et l’honnêteté du serveur sur la situation. Ils ont vraiment le sens du service !
Malgré cela on a passé une bonne soirée, à jouer au flipper et jeu d’arcade, et on a pas regretté notre choix.
Le serveur a eu droit à un généreux pourboire, on a dû insister pour qu’il l’accepte, mais après tout, on a mangé gratis et le service était top !

One of my go-​to places for beer in Shoreditch. Not only is it well located in the middle of all the buzz, it always serves great beer and the staff are fantastic bartenders.
There is usually a good variety of beers of mixed strength and different tastes. Among a group of people with varying preferences of beers, we were all able to find something we liked — how rare is that?!
Don’t be intimidated, though, by all the choice. Since I tend to go for some of their darker or more bitter beers, I always ask for recommendations in case there’s something different I haven’t tried yet. And what I really like about Brewdog is when I ask for recommendations from the staff, they’re usually spot on. And if they don’t get it right, they never mind that I ask to try a different option.
Just bear in mind that the drinks aren’t that cheap, and while the space is very nice, it does get quite crowded, so you’ll probably find yourself standing up and also shouting at each other. Still, a good beer is a good beer and worth the hassle!

Great selection of beers and a good atmosphere. Can often induce hangovers with some of the lethal beers but the IPA and hardcore IPA taste great, so are well worth it

Always good beer and a nice selection of soft drinks — not your usual fare. I had a Fritz-​Cola which was yummy.
Husband had 5 points IPA — he recommends. It went well with the chockies from Dark Sugar. Packs a wallop but goes down easily — with a hint of moccasins :)

Quality beers, decent prices, what’s more to ask? Haven’t tried the grub but it appears to be alright as well.
The warnings are true: This place does get crowded and loud on weekend nights. The din just bounces around in venues like this with industrial design. They have a nice-​sized patio out front where you can elbow your way into a corner for some standing room and peer out onto Brick Lane. No drinks on the patio after 11 p.m. though. The interior bar has a few booths, bar stools along the counter, some high-​tops in the back and even a specially designed shelf to place your drink running alongside the staircase railing. One of the booths in front is equipped with an N64, offering the possibility of all-​night, beer-​fuelled Mario Kart tournies.
Beer selection is awesome — the ones on the menu aren’t always available, so you have to look at the marquee behind the bar. Prices are very reasonable as noted, around 4.5−6.5 for a pint, and special glassware is used for certain varieties. This is a great place to start the night, or for a low-​key evening with a few friends followed by a stumble over to Beigel Bake for a salt beef bagel.

This is still my favourite bar in all of London. It has everything you would want to consume! Craft beers (e.g., Mikkellar) on draft upstairs and some bottled beers and ciders, and cocktails downstairs. I bring friends who are visiting here and they’ve always enjoyed themselves!

Absolutely love this spot. Central in Shoreditch. Every time I come in the beers continue to rotate & their own beers are always inventive & delicious. My favorite option is to head downstairs for they speakeasy style space with low ceiling & mismatched furniture. Always extremely friendly staff. I once tried one of the inventive cocktails from the downstairs bar, some kind of beet flavored concoction. The bartender was hardly encouraging of the cocktail list & instead tried to push me towards ordering a basic classic cocktail like a negroni, old fashioned or a martini, I persisted anyways. It actually was a good drink, but the beers are so stellar here, it’s hard not to circle back to them. A consistent go-​to spot

Now, I ended up in Brewdog on the second half of my night out with my cousin who works next to the Crown and Shuttle (see that review) and being a beer aficionado he insisted that we visit.
So, what did I like? Well, the beer strengths are pretty f**king awesome for starters.
Brewdog is both a bar and a microbrewery so they can make their own drinks and then, yeah baby, sell them!
A nice 10% caught my eye and half a pint of that later I was tres ecstatic. I also spied, what I think was a 40%(!!!) beer which I believe they serve in shots. Now, I didnt try any of this, but I have definite plans to return and sample some of this awesomeness, mainly because… its 40% beer!
It’s also worth mentioning that the staff are lovely, fun and talkative. They are passionate about what they sell, and this means you can have a good discussion (if that flicks your switch) about any of the products on sale :)

If you want to go to a friendly bar, with good beers, and enough space to stand around, this is a great option in Shoreditch. Brewdog beers are great, the bartenders are quick and friendly, and the atmosphere is hip and modern. After a really uninspired Indian on brick lane, we ended up here. I wish we had started here and skipped the Indian entirely.

Has board games to play! Folks next to us were adults and we watched them suck it up at Connect Four. I mean, sure alcohol deteriorates your decision making, but both people had chances to win and could not close out a game. I almost wanted to bother them and point out the correct place to move next. Ugh!
Oh yeah, awesome craft beer.

This bar is an insiders’tip for great cocktails. You’re surprised because it’s known for it’s homemade beers on tap? Well I was surprised, too. A friend took me down the stars in a very tiny hallway with only one chair and a painting on the left and he goes «Open the painting» — wait what? So I did and I opened up the door to another bar, very dark, interesting lighting and interesting people. And there you order a nice cocktail. We got one with Gin, Egg White, Rasberry and a slight taste of chocolate. Not cheap, but oh well which cocktail is.

I’ve been meaning to drop by here for a while and given we were a little early (for once) to a meal locally, we jumped in here for a swift refreshment.
Firstly, the bar has an amazing location, right at the bottom of Brick Lane, it’s a very busy and vibrant area. Great at weekends and even better for a few drinks on the town, plenty of bars around. Walking in, the place is very American Diner-​esque, feels like a good old bar that you could sneak a few in.
The bar was a little busy but had plenty of staff to power through the orders. It was actually a good thing, as it gave us time to mull over the huge beer list, so many choices. The bar guy (can’t remember his name) was a hero, such a nice bloke. Gave the place a totally welcoming feel and will certainly make us come back.
We tried two different pints, one light lager and another local pale ale. Both were fantastic, I’m more of a cider drinker so the lighter lager was my personal fave. A good strong taste, something that you don’t get outside of craft breweries.
We took a seat and really enjoyed the little time we spent here, BUT what really took us in was the food menu. We almost lost both our bottom jaws when we discovered the amazing delights on offer. Proper diner food, huge burger, and everything deep fried. I absolutely need to get back here to eat and i’m 100% it will be this week.
A great spot, really cool staff and awesome food. Get in and get down people.

I went on a Friday evening around 10pm and the music was played louder and louder. I had to yell to talk to my cousin but the ambience and atmosphere was still nice. Crafty menus and quirky design really took my heart. I had the Tokyo, which is the tastiest imperial stout I’ve ever had. I also had the Dead Pony Club to nurse for a longer period and it was not bad. This place would have to be my must-​visit if I’m ever over the pond again!

Where else are you going to be able to drink a ‘breakfast’ cocktail complete with toast and jam next to a stuffed stoat with wings?
UnderDog, named because it’s under BrewDog, is a quaint little speakeasy bar in the heart of Shoreditch and is packed full of character.
Their specialty is beer cocktails and if you think you won’t like it because you’re not a fan of beer, then you’re wrong. The menu is FANTASTIC. Each cocktail has its own little quirk ranging from mandarin foam to lovehearts crushed and mixed into the alcohol and for the most part, none of it tastes like beer. At least, not that warm lime-​stuck-​in-​the-​top beer you’re used to.
It’s probably important to note while we’re on the subject that sometimes you just shouldn’t eat the cool adornments though. I had some of the toast and jam and it was so salty and stale that it put me right off. And you should also keep an eye on the bartenders when they make your drink, because we ordered one with a dash of Tabasco in it and she ended up pouring the whole bottle in… no exaggeration. It was like fire. They apologised and replaced it though so it’s all good.
The place itself is effortlessly cool. Stuffed animals adorn the walls, every table and chair seems to be different and the walls and lighting give it a distressed feel to it that makes you feel a bit like you’ve stepped back in time. It’s a proper speakeasy.
But be prepared to wait because the queue for the bar can be upwards of 20 minutes. Half our group disappeared for over half an hour and came back with just three drinks. It’s busy and there seems to be no control on how many people are let in.
There are also not enough seats for the amount of people. Not even close. We ended up standing around two stools in what seemed like an alleyway and were pushed around a lot. Uncomfortable. But then it isn’t exactly the type of intimate exclusive place where you’d expect to sit down, so, you know, whatever.
The downsides to UnderDog are sort of big ones for me considering I spent all night there, but they’re easily overlooked if what you’re after is somewhere to try interesting drinks in a very cool Shoreditch environment. It does that very well indeed after all.

Lovely craft beer and very nice staff. This place can be very crowded during the evening so avoid it at the weekend where it can get too uncomfortable.
Having said that, Brewdog is one of my favourite drinking places in Shoreditch. If it’s not too crowded.
