My boyfriend and I were so excited to try Chicken Liquor. He especially, loves fried chicken. He orders it every Sunday. So when we saw that Chicken Liquor delivered to our flat, we jumped on it. He ordered the Dirty Chicken burger and I got the Towerstack, a chicken burger with slaw, jalapeños and a hash brown. We also got an order of fries to share. When the food arrived, I was a bit unsure just by the looks of it. My chicken burger was soggy and drowned by the slaw so that the bun couldn’t hold up the rest of the burger. The jalapeños and hash brown were lost by the overpowering slaw. I could hardly even taste the chicken. He said his chicken burger was fine, nothing to write home about but this is surprising as he generally loves any fried chicken burger. The fries though, were the most upsetting. They were stale, flavorless and went untouched. Overall, I would not order from here again but I am interested to see how their sister restaurant Meat Liquor is doing as it is supposed to be better.

Let’s make things clear on that one. Basically, it sounds like a tasty restaurant with nice pieces of breaded chicken, but don’t judge a book by it’s cover. Been waiting for ages to get a waiter at out table, but it’s ok, it can happen in busy places(enven though, it wasn’t busy!). Once the waiter’s there, he was absolutely unfriendly and bad-tempered. But wait, let’s wait until we recieve our meals, maybe he had just a bad day?(even though when it’s you’re job you’re supposed to be nice and pleasant no?) The meals arrive on the table.(Please note around 10£ for 5 chicken tenders and fries). Basically, I’ve never thought that fried chicken could be as much disgusting. It just had no taste, no flavour, the chicken was dry. the breadcrumb was tasteless and chewy. I got the fries + Cheddar. My friend just took normal fries. Basically Industrial frozen fries that taste absolutely nothing, I did not even finished them, moreover with the cheap cheese on it, makes it just awful. In one word: I paid 10£ for chicken and fries that taste better at Morleys for 3.50£(I’m not even joking) So if you want fried chicken and fries just prefer to avoid this place, or just go to KFC, even that place would be better(I never thought I would recommend to go to a fast food instead of a «restaurant» once in a Unilocal review but here we are)

Sooooo much chicken! For chicken lovers and only chicken lovers!!! Turned up for a late sunday brunch, so lots of things on menu had already run out. Obviously huge dissapointment, but I guess a sign that everything is fresh… Wasnt the best service ever, rather so to be honest… Given how basic the menu is it was a little surprising. Despite that i have to say the chicken is wonderful! Highlight will have to be the Korean chicken, but definitely not spicy enough, the classic is good but not extraordinary. Couple more non-chicken related comments — the shakes(both hard & soft) are amazing!!! Cheesy fries also worth the visit! However the mac n cheese bites were a disappointment…

The Food: sambal chicken wings £7.50 — Needless to say that being me(and hopefully Ivy too) we went for the chicken wings because I do like to chew on bones. Unfortunately, the chicken wings did not include the tips of the wings. If you want to know a bit more about the sambal, it was sambal oelek that they used for this, so it had a more vinaigrette taste. As for the fried chicken wings, they were very dry and ordinary. korean double fried + daikon + fermented chilli £ 6.50 — battered and although double fried, it was slightly moister than the sambal chicken wings. Presentation and colour was very similar to it as well. dirty chicken £8.00 — fried chicken fillet with mayo, lettuce and red onins. The chicken fillet was so dry that even the mayo could not savour it. The bun, okay. tower block £8.50 — fried chicken fillet with cheese, hash brown, jalapenos, slaw, onions, russian dressing. All a bit too much to my taste, hash browns didn’t do anything tastewise, and the mélange of cheese, russian, and slaw meant that it was hard to distinguish any of them individually. Definitely a dish for those whose stomachs are as big as their eyes. fries £ 3.00 — straightforward chips. The portion of was quite large and was enough to share for two or a generous portion for one with just burger and chips.

Despite Chicken Liquor not actually selling liquor made of chicken, this is a really great place to go. The Korean flavour chicken and the mac and cheese bites are awesome.

Omg how did I forget to write my review of this place! Anyhoo, I was in the area two days exactly and decided it wAs time I joined the meat liquor fan club! So I oredered the Korean wings with a side of Mac and cheese … At first the I was like«by Jove! What an unusual flavour for wings but dammit it’s great» … But after the 3rd bloody wing I had deep regrets mayn! It was way too vinger-y and in fact I didn’t like the flavour at all! … So I moved onto the Mac and cheese which wasn’t bad to be fair. Nothing to write to the president about but alright I guess. Overall I’m willing to try other things on their menu but I wouldn’t leave home with that being my sole intention … I have spoken!

If you open a restaurant with predominantly one dish, then do it well please. And Chicken Liquor certainly does the chicken wing justice. Crispy, tasty and oh so naughty.

I must confess I’m a bit addicted to Chicken Liquor and think I’ve been here about 5 times in the last 2 months. Every time I go the food is really good but as reported by some other people the service can be a bit lacking. Thus taking off one star. On my first experience I went for the Tower Burger which was ace, really juicy chicken breast great hash brown inside and a solid coleslaw. However a waitress dropped a bottle of wine on us on her way past. She was very apologetic and did sort us a discount, but still. Since then I’ve tried the Buffalo wings, Korean wings and the Chicken Shop wings. They’re all excellent! I would recommend going for wings NOT boneless bites. The bone makes the chicken so much better, even if you’re a bit precious about bones I would recommend sucking it up and plumping for a proper wing. You won’t regret it. Of the sides the Mac and Cheese bites are good if a bit fally apart, the Hot Mess is solid and the fries are well… fries. I’ve not got around to the rest yet. I’m sure I will. Again on the service getting the bill can be really slow make sure to flag someone down effectively as they will be running around a bit.

I stumbled across Chicken Liquor last night and was so pleased! Me and a friend were catching up after a year of not seeing each other, and with it being freezing last night didn’t want to wait around at another well know burger place close by. We had only planned to stop in for a drink, not sure if it was the lovely staff or the three rum Grog but after looking at the menu we decided that this was the place! A table freed up just as we decided to stay and ordered pretty much straight away. I chose the Korean wings, my friend the Chicken Shop bites and got fries, slaw and mac & cheese to share. Now when mac & cheese is deep fried, you know a place is good, stretchy cheese oozing out with each bite *drool*. The double fried Korean wings were crispy, saucy and delicious. We were absolutely stuffed and I couldn’t finish two wings and a mac & cheese so I took them to go — the waitress was so pleased I’d asked, she even said she hates throwing food out so she prefers it when customers ask to take the food to go! I’ll definitely be coming here to get my deep fried fix!

My friends and I wanted to do a «chicken night» and chose this place. We arrived at 7pm and got a seat immediately as it was starting to fill up. I would say this place is definitely popular with the local crowd and I would come back again! Menu: The menu was simple and straightforward. They served chicken and chicken wings. Out of 5 styles of wings, my friends and I ordered 4: Buffalo, homestyle, Thai, and Korean. I thought Buffalo style was pretty good, but my friends enjoyed the more oriental flavors. We also ordered side dishes: hot mess and Deep fried mac n’ cheese. I was overly amazed at how the mac n’ cheese were cubed and deep fried. The hot mess was a bit too messy in my opinion. Atmosphere: The atmosphere has a trendy — back alley vibe to it. It was dark so I cannot comment whether the place was overtly clean, but it was nice. I wish the seats and the tables were wider and comfier. At times, I was literally elbow-to-elbow with someone sitting behind me. There wasn’t enough room to put our bags or coats either. Service: The service was simple. They take your order, give you food. Nothing amazing, but they weren’t rude about it.

We went to Chicken Liquor 4 October on a Saturday. Their website says they opened at 12pm so we walked around Brixton Village. We showed up at 12:15pm and they were still closed. An employee was slouching around the place laughing on her mobile while there were mops and other cleaning products just sitting in front for everyone’s view. She looked up and gave me 5 seconds to tell me it would be another 20 minutes before they were opened. She then of course went back to her conversation doing absolutely nothing that would suggest she cared when the place would actually open. Fast forward to almost 1pm and the place was STILL closed. People were walking by and waiting for a bit. Then they’d leave and eat somewhere else. I can’t judge the food cause we were also fed up by this incredible lack of caring so we ate somewhere else as well. We most surely will not be back here or to any other of the Meat/Chicken Liquor locations. Service this bad screams out«poor management» in my book.

Sorry. This is South London so if your doing chicken you better do it right. I am a massive fan of Meatliquor and so expected similar greatness from the former Wishbone but my dining companion and I were thoroughly disappointed. Staff were friendly but service was very slow and we thought we had been forgotten as it took about 30 minutes to get the food we ordered… We went for chicken shop and Korean wings respectively with hash browns and fries. Fries were cheap and nasties that you would expect to find at undercover fried chicken franchises around London, NOT what you should be getting at a Meatliquor associated venue. Hash browns were fine but chicken wings like the fries had been left on the fryer too long so that the texture was dry and oily… Not much flavour from the marinades and sauces and fries also underseasoned So the place gets a low score from me because you can get a better fried chicken experience on about 40 other venues in a few miles radius for less money, the idea is good but with execution this poor the whole operation smacks of opportunistic exploitation of the food tourism boom in Brixton Village. Lots of the places in the area are thriving because they have made an effort to get the food right but here it is the opposite, real shame

Formerly Wishbone, Chicken Liquor has all your chicken needs in Brixton. The menu is fairly straight-forward; serving up a selection of chicken burgers, chicken wings and boneless wings and all the usual suspects of sides. I came here for lunch on a Friday with two of my colleagues, only about two other tables of people prior to us sitting down. A lovely server came to us eventually and got our drink orders and it took almost 15 minutes for the drinks to come back as she had dropped one of our beers and shattered a beer glass. Which meant it took about 15 minutes for us to put our orders in with the server. A few more tables of people started showing up as we were waiting for our drinks, still one server though. Our food took almost a half hour to get to us, my guess is one person in the kitchen as well. They offer a lunch special: wings or burger, fries and a soft drink for £7.50. I ordered the«Tower Block» burger and my two colleagues ordered wings. The fried chicken fillet in the burger was a good size(as in, it was the size of the bun) and was pretty good, the slaw was nice and crunchy, but the hash brown and the Russian dressing just made the entire burger feel mushy everything just squished out of the bun, I ended up having the slaw on its own. The wings were okay, but nothing spectacular. Fries were pretty good though. The lunch special is a pretty good deal, and the food is decent, so as long as you’re not too pressed for time, and you need a place for a budget catch up lunch, give this place a try!
