Cinnamon Soho

After traipsing around Kingly Court looking for a restaurant that appealed to us for more than 15 minutes (I know, I know, there are SO many options there … but so little that suited our mood right then and there!). Finally, we settled on Cinnamon Soho. Having been to its siblings (Cinnamon Club and Cinnamon Kitchen), I knew I’d be a fan. Plus, it was a deliciously warm evening, so the option of sitting outside made it even more of a win/​win scenario.
It’s been a few days since we dined at Cinnamon Soho, so I have trouble recollecting what we’d ordered, but the Paneer 65 was a stand-​out dish, as was the Vindaloo of Ox Cheek, Masala Mash and Pickled Radish. Both were visual feasts for the eyes as well as the belly: bright, vibrant colors made for beautiful dishes.
My reason for the four stars instead of five? The rather measly portions of sides for the price … the pilau rice was £2, despite being about two large spoonfuls in a small, square dish. My dining companion’s naan was a whopping £4 — for one, medium-​sized naan.
Still, we left with our bellies full and heart happy. Service was nothing to write home about, especially as our server asked us for our order, didn’t bother to write it down, then asked us to repeat it again from the beginning when he did decide to write it down (similar to that of Cinnamon Kitchen, which has gone downhill, sadly, in the last couple years).
Would I go again? Probably, for the sharing plates. But I’d still grumble about the rice and naan.

Cinnamon Soho positively surprised me on a random day when I decided to order take-​away to bring back home to my husband. That’s how I cook for my husband. Ha! Just kidding.
I was looking at the menu and was greeted quite quickly. They told me they were happy to put together something for me, and the man gave me some recommendations.
I tried the Papdi chat, chargrilled cauliflower, and the two that were recommended were the black lentils and spinach dumplings. While I waited, they even brought me a glass of prosecco! I was totally surprised.
The food was also a surprise… I wasn’t expecting such different and bold flavours. I think they really just nailed the flavour texture combo thing.
The spinach dumplings were so great because the outside was crunchy and the inside was a wonderful texture and subtle flavour and was balanced well with the sauce it came with.
The black lentils had a very nice bite to them. They were in more sauce than I expected but I think I preferred it. It made the dish lighter and must more tasty, rather than too heavy.
And the papdi chat was also amazing. It’s got strips of toasted bread, along with pomegranate, yogurt, and different spices and seasonings. I didn’t know if I’d be into it but man all of those fantastic things came together and played some sweet songs in my mouth! yay!
The cauliflower was also very good, but those 3 dishes REALLY stood out and I’d order them again for sure. Service was quick and they were super friendly with the complimentary drink. Thanks Cinnamon Soho!

Great Indian food. Would give 5 stars but the service was pretty inattentive. The chicken tikka is amazing as is the pork belly. Pretty good portions and great value. Tasty masala tea.

I really like Cinnamon Club and I’m really disappointed with Cinnamon Soho. The food is perfectly acceptable but the service is terrible. When we complained about a mouse running around the restaurant, the waiting staff complained they couldn’t do anything about it. Go to Dishoom Carnaby instead.

I was seriously disappointed with Cinnamon Soho — mainly because Cinnamon Club is one of my favourite restaurants and I just can’t believe that Cinnamon Soho is part of the same group.
Firstly, the actual décor and restaurant itself isn’t much. It’s very basic. I had read this in several reviews prior to my visit, but I hoped the food would outshine the atmosphere and I have to say, it didn’t really.
We booked with an 8 course set menu and a cocktail. When we arrived, the waiter rushed us to the first available table, and sat us down with the normal menu. When I explained we booked a set menu, he showed us the 2 course set menu on the same menu, and it took me to ask again for the menu we booked.
The cocktail was fine, nothing special. The first two courses (the green potato cake and the lamb kebabs) were lovely, perfectly balanced and interesting.
Then out came the minced lamb and the indo-​chinese chicken. These were nice, but I have to say the Chicken was really too spicey. I love spice, and like things hot, but this was just too hot that you could not taste or enjoy the rest of the meal. It wasn’t balanced like the rest of the dishes, which was a shame as it meant we ended up leaving a lot of this.
Then they brought out the desert — having only had 4 courses… I asked where the other two courses were and explained, and the waitress asked if we still wanted them. No apology, and of course, as we were paying for the 8 courses we wanted to try the other two. She then told the waiter behind me and he just laughed. I was seriously disappointed with the service. One thing that is really noticeable able Cinnamon Club is the service is impeccible, but the service at this sister restuarant was not a patch on this.
They offered to take off the service charge due to the mix up with the set menu, but I thought that was a bit cheeky as that should be optional anyway (don’t get me wrong I always pay service charge), it would have been more of a gesture to deduct from the bill or the price of a drink we ordered.
I also want to flag up that the toilets are a bit skanky. They needed to be cleaned and they had a toilet roll out to use to dry your hands.
The food was okay, service and atmosphere was below average. No wonder the other Indian style restuarant a few doors down (Dishoom) had a queue around the block.

Balls! Oh so delicious balls.
I was lucky enough to visit Cinnamon Soho on a Unilocal event and so was very happy to go back when I was in the area. My boyfriend and I were in Kingly Court trying to decide where to eat dinner and I suggested going to Cinnamon for a cocktail and a snack before dinner.
It was happy hour so we had two garden mojitos for £12. Pretty good deal for nice, refreshing cocktails. There was no question what to order to snack on. Their selection of 10 balls for £9. it is basically a platter of deep fried crunchy balls filled with different ingredients and a selection of dips. Each person gets 5 of their own so best to share between 2. My favourite is easily the scotch egg ball. They are the perfect, light accompaniment to cocktails. Although I’m a huge fan of their papri chaat as well.
The service is very nice and friendly here too.

I came here as part of a Unilocal event to sample the Christmas menu. As a vegan, I must say that they were extremely accommodating, and seem to be with other dietary restrictions as well.
The cocktail to start was a warmed rum cocktail, and will be perfect in the upcoming cold season. I found it delicious, though several members of the group did not like it.
To start, I had the Balls!, something Cinnamon Soho is known for. Mine were done specially dairy free, and I had the potato bondas, which are battered in chickpeas. They were delicious! Then I had the quinoa salad with watermelon and hoisin — simple but refreshing and good. For an entrée, I had the Hyderabadi stir-​fry aubergine with sesame and tamarind sauce, which comes served with rice. It was on the spicier side, but was delicious. For dessert, I had a sample of all three different types of sorbet: raspberry, strawberry, and mango. By the end of all this, I was absolutely stuffed.
Our waiter was extremely attentive, and took special attention to go through all the vegan options available, and offered to make up something special if I did not find anything I liked. The outdoor patio is lovely, and the inside is sleek and nice. I would definitely recommend for a nice dinner out if you like Indian food.

Great place for a quick lunch during the work week.
The menu has a lot of gluten free, vegetarian, vegan options and the meat is halal. £12 for 2 course lunch and £15 for 3 course.
I will certainly be back often.

I am torn on the stars because the service should get 5 stars, apps should get 4, and my dinner should get 3. Overall I settled for 4 stars, but know there is more to that.
The service was the best I have experienced he in London. So helpful, polite, and never missing with the water jug. It was really nice to have that experience with a few friends in town.
The starters were really good. There were 3 interesting fusion dishes that we tried and all were really happy with them. For dinner each person selected a different main along with a table order of nan and paratha. Both breads were awesome! Loved them. The mains were all good, but not amazing. The portions were fairly sized. Not too big, not too small which was nice. But know there are not likely going to be left overs unless you order too many starters or too much bread.
Overall a really nice experience at a higher end Indian Fusion place.

Came here on the recommendation of a friend, and it did not disappoint. First, it seems as though there is some confusion — it’s not an Indian restaurant, but an Indian Fusion restaurant. Don’t go here expecting traditional — in fact expect non-​traditional!
The food overall was quite good, not spicy, but flavorful. In contrast, the balls that are prominently placed on the menu are not all that great — I’d suggest skipping. However, the chaat starter was excellent — definitely not traditional, but well made, good textured, worth trying! The tandoori chicken was not as spicy as we’d like, but the sauce surrounding it was good, and it was well presented and well done. We also had lamb vindaloo and the curry of the day — which was greek inspired. The greek inspired curry was the best entrée I believe, though the vindaloo sauce was well done also.
Service was excellent, they leave you alone, and all it takes is a quick wave to get service. We were sat upstairs — which made the atmosphere good. I’d suggest not sitting downstairs — that seemed a bit weird and closed off, I don’t think the experience would be the same — unless the full restaurant was packed.
A little on the pricey end, but we were expecting that, so not a surprise. Overall, good service, good inventive fusion food — worth stopping in.

Not the worst but not the best. Food was tasty but lacked flavour. While the menu had promise it really lacked that punch that you expect. I’m glad I went there but probably wouldn’t return. Also for the amount of staff on floor, some regular cleaning of the toilet should have been happening.

I have been to Cinnamon a few times and never been disappointed! A summer night and sitting outside, enjoying a great meal. Ordered from the specials menu; full flavour chicken in korma sauce, and then one of the best dishes I had for a very long time, the Vindaloo Ox cheek. The meat melted in the mouth and then exploded with hot chilli… amazing!
You must try the pudding menu, very different and odd:)

I’ve walked past Cinnamon Soho a few times in the past few months and fancied trying quite a few things on the menu — A different menu from your normal Indian restaurant
We were in a rush for a quick and tasty meal before going to cahoots so we decided to pop in and try their set menu
£16 for 2 courses and a cocktail so not a bad deal, with a fair choice for each course (I think this changes occasionally)
They immediately bought out our cocktails which were delicious. Mango with a chilli kick — quite different but easy to drink. Not sure what alcohol was in it: s we were also offered tap water straight away but it took a while to come to the table
Then starters followed and both were good — I had chicken tikka which was yum with succulent chicken (not dry at all) and bf had pork belly which was not bad but not best I’ve had
Mains were also good — I had the rogan josh lamb shepherds pie. Packed full of flavour with massive chunks of lamb and a side salad. Was really impressed. Bf had the beef coconut curry which was pretty good but rice a bit dry and flavourless (hey, it’s only rice)
All this came in 45 mins but we had to dash so asked for the bill while finishing main (I think they thought we didn’t enjoy it)
Bit rushed on our part as I also wanted to try their desserts which you could add for an extra £3
We were however totally full! I wouldn’t say portions were massive but by no means were they small!
Ambience in the restaurant was lacking but staff were friendly
Would definitely return but 3* as some things to improve on and normal cost outside of set menu is a bit steep for what the food was!

High Chai as opposed to the High Tea — very clever name and concept to the traditional afternoon tea. I wasn’t to totally convinced however. The advertisements certainly looked more appetising than the real life food.
Firstly the pros: the Cinnamon Bellini was lovely (very light and spicy), really like the potatoes and the sauces accompanying it. The Bangla scotch egg was interesting idea, but lacked flavour (the main taste was the dhal).
The cons: the Tandoori chicken sandwich — I thought that it would be a naan bread, of puri or some sort of Indian bread rather than an actual brown bread toasted sandwich (a bit disappointing). Another issue I had with the sandwich was the fact that it had way too many spring onions (it was the only flavour I could taste). The Bhangra lamb slider was average and again lacked the flavour needed. The dessert was awful!!! — their ginger cake wasn’t nice and the spiced scone was rock hard.
Overall, I loved the idea of an afternoon tea with a twist, but the flavours were somewhat lacking (which is unusual for Cinnamon restaurants as I usually love their food) I definitely would recommend eating there (and sampling their lovely cocktails), but maybe avoid the High Chai. The venue is lovely and in a great location.

Went for dinner with a co-​worker on a Friday night. We were there before 7pm so had the special 2 course meal for 16 pounds. The starter and main (chicken curry) were
both excellent. Full of flavor and nice portions. The music was not loud as described by another reviewer, the service was also very attentive and friendly.

What a find!!! We were window shopping along Regent and decided to wander off the main road and have a bite. The food here is really amazing! Not traditio al Indian food, but you will love what they are working with. I am looking forward to coming to this place again the next time I am in London.

Cinnamon was pretty disappointing. For a town that’s known for great Indian food the food here was pretty bland. Not as vibrant as some other authentic indian places I’ve been elsewhere in the city. Definitely worth passing on!

I’m a big fan of Cinnamon Kitchen so naturally I was excited to dine at its sister restaurant. Unfortunately this was quite a disappointing meal.
We were seated in the basement. With the techno club music and the obnoxiously loud groups of people, we could barely here each other — and there were only 3 of us. Our ears were actually ringing when we left.
The food on the whole was quite good, but I found my grilled prawns with coconut sauce slightly undercooked and powdery.
While priced cheaper than Cinnamon Kitchen, I’d definitely rather pay more and eat there than eat here again. The much more pleasant dining experience and higher quality food is worth it.

Really expensive, £17 for curry and rice. M&S in the microwave tastes better if you ask me. We were seated down stairs as the only table there which wasn’t a great atmosphere. Beers took forever to arrive when we ordered. Oh and the toilet was about 110f !!! Something was clearly messed up with the a/​c and they had the server room door open. Was better when it was 2 floors bar.

I would rename this place Cinnamon So-​So. More fitting. And funnier.
I think I was here a few years earlier when it was another place, though I can’t remember what that place was. I just remember the layout.
The food was decent and there was a GF indicator for the dishes that were made by the chef’s girlfriend. They also all happened to be gluten free. What a coincidence!
I probably wouldn’t come back but I also wouldn’t advise against going here. It was good enough. Three stars is perfect for you, Cinnamon So-​So.
