Trying to find gluten-free crepes in London is nigh impossible, so there was much rejoicing on finding out that Crêpe Affaire catered to the gluten-intolerant. Not just savoury crepes too, like most places, but sweet ones too. Awesome. A bit on the pricey side for one crêpe with Nutella, though: £5 with the cost of gluten-free batter and eating in factored into the cost. The crêpe was a bit on the tough side, probably a side effect of the gluten free batter, and it was a task and a half attempting to cut it with the plastic cutlery provided. Nothing exceptional, but I’m sure my desire for gluten free crepes will tempt me back eventually.

Any time I invest energy in shopping, I have to have enough caffeine(this is not one of my favorite pastimes). With lots ot see at Spitalfields market, I was happy to stop in for an espresso and power up. They have the cutest little to-go espresso cups with lids. I don’t really understand this, as espresso is typically too hot to drink and not really a sipping type drink, but adorable none the less. The restaurant was full with people resting from shopping, and I always love watching the crêpe making, which is done at the counter in full view.

First impression — expensive for the amount of food given. But once that delicious crêpe entered my mouth I than realize what I was paying for. ANEXPLOSIONOFSWEETRIPEAPPLES, WITHTHATTOUCHOFCARAMELGLAZEREALLYHITTHESPOT! The crumble added the right balance of texture to the taste. My wife ordered the crêpe classic(ham and cheese) just what you would expect from a ham and cheese crêpe. One of the staff was rude but Silvie over compensates for her coworkers lack of charm and politeness.

Avoid the hot chocolate one of the worst we have ever had As my husband and I don’t do tea or coffee we often stop for a hot choc. This was such a disappointment. Frothy milk with some kind of choc flavouring but very little. Yuk! Avoid. How difficult is it?

More fillings please! I had the New York Deli(smoked salmon and crème cheese) which was really yummy but I could have done with more of the fillings — it did not fill me up enough for lunch I’m afraid. BUT I still recommend it — nice food and smiley staff. The rest of the menu looked really delicious too — excellent alternative to having a sandwich!

We were hungry, the place looked OK, so we thought that a crêpe is a great idea. No, it was not. I’ve had tons of crepes in my life, this was the first time that it was impossible to finish it. It just tasted horrible…

Since M is a true Parisienne, we had to go and get dessert after our meal. I really wanted the Strawberry Delight but I couldn’t eat this all by myself so I opted for the Mellow Yellow. Butter, Sugar and Lemon! So simple and yet soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo good. I hate the bottom part of the cone wrapping was filled with lemon, sugar and butter concoction that it spilled in my coat pocket! UGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH — it was a complete mess! BOO! M opted for a savoury crêpe — Le Goat!

So I have always thought the name of this place is a bitwellCrepe, but my main reason for not having come here before is that they don’t have my favourite kinds of fillings. I was sold on the lovely pancake by the French, who make good pancakeseven for people they don’t like(foreigners)most pancakes I had had before were pretty crêpe to be honest. This place is actually pretty good though. The staff are extremely friendly, the prices are reasonable and the food is not bad at all. I got a veggie pancake with chilli peppers and while it wasn’t particularly spicy it was a decent meal(although I recommend eating in or taking it somewhere else where they have cutleryit is not assembled to be eaten walking down the street). I will be coming back. maybe with some hot sauce or some pepperoni tucked away somewhere about my person.

Is there really only one crêpe affair? When I walked in I just assumed it was a chain. It had that feel. My crêpe was aight. I had the«Londoner» which was bacon, cheese and egg. I wouldn’t say its spectacular but for 3 – 4 pounds it aint so bad. Probably the best thing about this place is the location — great for people watching in Spitafields. bottom line: this place is good for a quick meal or snack but i prefer random stands in markets for a good crêpe.

Ohlala, la crêpe! The French version of a pancake, only thinner, and may I say, better? I am a big crêpe fan, weather they are filled with salty ingredients or sweet ones. This simple dish is so versatile it goes perfect with both and I will eat them all. This lovely place, which looks like a big chain, and its bound to be only not yet, serves the most delicious crepes this side of the Thames. If I could recommend you one sweet and one salty, id say, go for the Belgian Chocolate Crêpe with milk chocolate, and for the salty one stick to the Classic crêpe. Make sure when you pay you get a loyalty card, after buying 8 crepes you get one free!

Crêpe Affaire claim that their crepes are healthy. It’s opened ended, yes healthier than a plate of sausages and chips but I think there’s a bit of deception here and that makes me suspicious and has therefore knocked a star off the ratings. I have a rather unsophisticated palate and the idea of more than 3 ingredients all running a muck in a flour rollup is quite frightening. So I stayed away from the savoury selection and chose an apple with cinnamon. You can’t really go wrong with that and they don’t. I just found it a little unremarkable really. I’m not sitting here and craving one as I write. The space at Spitalfields is great and it’s a good looking shop with large glass plate windows and everything all new and shiny.

Firstly J’ador crepes! I’ve been in Crepeaffaire a few times, the last time I came here was on my lunch break, I ordered a savoury crêpe with smoked salmon and scrambled egg! delicious! from what I remember though it was a little expensive over £5. but in saying that the quality is great. They have outdoor seating which is nice in the summer time of course. Looking forward to going here again.

I am not very fond of this chain of cafes. Judging from previous experiences, I have come to the conclusion that their crepes are overpriced, not very tasty, and lack ingredients. Even their coffee is watery. Perhaps I am just being bitter since my mother is a crêpe queen, and I was often spoiled with her crepes while growing up. But then again, I have tasted much better and cheaper crepes in markets and stands as well. I don’t know… judge for yourselves.

Crepeaffaire is part of a chain. I’ve seen one in Soho and another in Hammersmith station. The format’s pretty simple: they do sweet and savoury crepes and serve drinks on the side. The menu features some pretty interesting items, such as ‘Mellow Yellow’ and all crepes come in around a fiver. Not a bargain but a nice occasional teat, I guess. One unfortunate thing I found when coming here is that they don’t cook the crêpe to order, they seem to have lots premade. I say it’s unfortunate because I think watching a crêpe made is quite fun. Mind you, if they did make them to order the queues would be large and I’d moan! The crepes are ok. My point of comparison would be those from street vendors in Paris. Crepaffaire really doesn’t compare. The service at this store was a bit lacklustre and it really has the feeling of an airport eatery, rather than a restaurant. Good for a quick indulgent bite if you’re walking past. Bad if you’re looking for the best crepes in town.
