Today I went to a film launch about local young people and safety. As Charles Darwin is quoted as saying: «How paramount the future is to the present when one is surrounded by children.» Fittingly, the event was catered by Darwin’s Deli, and whoever said there’s no such thing as a free lunch was wrong because I just chowed down on a delightful selection of sarnies and ch ching! that’s me sorted until my next meal. I was suitably impressed with the selection of sandwiches and the abundance of brown bread options. The fillings I chose to sample: mozzarella/basil/tomato(really nice and basil-y), roast beef/horseradish(surprisingly, particularly tasty), chicken/stuffing, and a staple favourite cheddar/(and my beloved) branston pickle. No fancy bread, as to be expected at this sort of do, but it was soft and not dry! There was a good selection of fruit to choose from — again, nothing tropical, but I did grab a red pear, which I can’t recall having had/seen before… The little brownies, cakes and flapjacks were all individually pre-packaged jobbies and didn’t look particularly interesting to me, but that’s because I’m more about the homemade, mouth-wateringly good looking decadent treats. Or a KitKat Chunky. I’d probs give ‘em a 3.5 for the simplicity, yet effectiveness of their sandwiches. Oh, and they had NICE biscuits! Nice!
