Euston Station

So I won’t lie, I kind of hate Euston station — yes, hate is a harsh word but I don’t think I have ever had a smooth experience there and I’ve definitely never smiled inside those walls (and that is very rare for me). My trains are always late, it is always absolutely packed with disgruntled people and even the staff are rude, with the majority having severe cases of resting bitch face — not exactly helpfully inviting. Harsh, but true!
There are a selection of chain food spots, both outside and in, available however finding a seat in them is excruciating task in itself so please do prepare yourself to be stood up and waiting.
You will have to pay to use the toilets. This is pretty standard these days in the large UK stations so please be sure to have some change on you otherwise you may have to attempt a Colin Jackson over the toilet barriers!
One positive and encouraging thing I will say however is that there are improvement works going on currently which seem to be trying to rectify the above issues. They recently opened a Leon and a burger joint which provides more seating above the main station floor and although I don’t know the exact plans for Euston’s future layout they do seem to be starting to address their issues and move forward which can only be a positive thing!
That smile may just be around the corner — I truly hope it is!

A super busy train station. Good selection of food to take with you on your journey. Despite the busyness, trains are easily accessible and I’ve not had any major dramas yet with delays.

It’s difficult to articulate quite how bleak the experience of using London Euston station is. It exists as a gateway to and from the north of England, and it’s perhaps for this reason that it’s never really been improved; compared to many of the places for which the station acts as a gateway, it’s the veritable Taj Mahal of London — a palace fit for royalty. But in reality, this is surely where souls come to die.
Picture, if you will, a gargantuan hall, surrounded by construction perpetually in progress. Large concrete blocks impose in on you from above you as gaze upon a gigantic board detailing the departure times, platforms and stopping points for the one saving grace of London Euston — an exit of any kind. With almost no seating available, you are crammed like cattle, willing the clock to tick faster, fighting the tangible sense of temptation that accompanies every announcement of impending departure. It soon becomes of secondary importance where the next train is going. Only that it is going. And you gaze in awe of those whose time has been called and whose legs cannot scuttle them quickly enough to the escape you so desire for yourself.
But it is not your time. Not yet. You have fallen victim to a fate worse than death itself: the excruciating patience-​testing experience of a London Euston train delay. You shake yourself from the cold, chilling feeling of dread that begins to take over and tell yourself it can’t be as bad as you last remember it.
Glancing around for any shred of comfort, you come up short. There is nothing here for you. Shops and facilities exist in the most crudely functional, unwelcoming manner. High street mainstays are here, each taking advantage of your predicament by inflating costs to the degree you begin to suspect they’re in collusion with whatever evil madman designed this place, to gradually take your sanity.
And then, the call. Could it be? Yes. You’re not dreaming. Your lifeline from this hell-​hole has arrived. Along with the other livestock, you move en masse through a completely impractical corridor, not nearly spacious enough to contain this now rabid exodus of the damned. ‘Never again’, you vow, ‘will I put myself through that. I would rather combat-​crawl through the sewers of this country.’ Except you won’t. Because you have no choice. You’ll be back, again and again, and every time you do, those mysterious, masochistic suits will profit once again from this exercise in modern torture.
Pros: Good disabled access.

After my first trip to Euston, I’m finally getting Eust (on) to London’s train station, which can’t match Manchester Piccadilly.
Euston has quite a lot of coffee shops, including Café Ritazza, Costa, Camden Food Co, many of these brands are branded but still you might not see a lot of them, especially in the north (Where at these prices, you can understand why I have never heard of them in the north!)
Ed’s Easy Diner, It Su and Nando’s are probably the main, branded restaurants here.
Euston station is quite big and is split with an outside part, which honestly I feel, is not a very nice environment, and inside, it probably has too many coffee shops rather than shops itsself, and having too many branches of WHsmith do count, I do feel they should make more room for sitting, by getting rid of a WHsmith and a few coffee shops, making pop up ones, as you go to get your train, as the isles are very long, especially around platform 16 where Virgin Trains go to Manchester (at least in my case), they have to be big, as they must be a mile long, adding pop up coffee shops on platforms like this, as they do elsewhere in London, would be a great idea.
Trains connecting Victoria, Waterloo, Paddington, St Pancras and Euston (London major stations), rather than the tube would also be useful.

Euston is quite hard to navigate around for tourists too, the buses are quite hard to find, and when you do, finding the right stop, can take a long time due to a lack of signage, which is a key factor in the 2 star rating.
This station isn’t one I’d visit in a hurry, when you consider a lack of restaurants, with too many cafes, it just being too big and them not getting the most of this space, a lack of pop up shops and staff in some cases, and it just in general not being a very nice station to look at, lacking modern features like Piccadilly in Manchester, I can’t give any more than 2 stars, and for me this station is just a hub for more long distance travel, to and from London. So please Victoria, Can you start going to Manchester so I don’t have to get Eust (on) to Euston!

Standard network rail station that is a mainline HUB ! So from here you have Holyhead, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Birmingham, Manchester, Crewe, Chester, Preston, Carlisle to mane but a few, Also the Caledonian sleeper arrives and leaves from here !
Shops wise, everything you could need ! Currently in the process of being done up !

Lots of standard station stops. Some accept bite card. Always seems to be a mad rush for the Virgin trains.
Not many gf outlets at the station and the refurb has closed quite a few down. The best gf outlet appears to be the Covent garden company.
Having a nite card gets you 10% discount at a selection if station outlets.

I really hate Euston Station, it’s in a permanent state of «improvement» but the building works never appear to be getting anywhere.
When you couple this with the amount of people using the station. At peak times it’s a bloody nightmare so make sure you give yourself plenty of time when travelling!!!

This is what my nightmares are made of! There are always SO MANY PEOPLE inside, and none of them seem to know where they are going. Of course, the improvement work (that have been goign on for 1+ years) are not making things better.
But quite honestly, unless you have a train to catch (obviously), I don’t see any reason to get in!

I use the underground at Euston station everyday to get to and from work and though it is a really handy station for changing tube lines, it is disguising.
The northern line, Platform 3 has had some sort of smelly leak for about 3 months. They put loads of tissues/​mop heads on top of to soak up — no sign or block off or anything so you have to avoid the unknown wetness.
Also, about 2 months ago when I was on my way home just after 6pm, I nearly trod on something which I avoided last second, I looked at it after and it was a squashed DEAD MOUSE! It was a horrific sight and still makes me feel sick. Blood, bones, insides, everything. I went and told the lady that was working there further down the platform and half way through speaking she interrupted me and said «i know, someone is going to come» rude & she should have stood there to prevent people stepping in it.

Not one of the best Railway stations ever, there is hardly anywhere to sit and its very crowded most of the time, they only let you know a few minutes before you have to board the train which causes absolute carnage and everyone has to rush for the train at once. There are a few fast chain eateries and a few supermarkets around the station for last minute light bites for the train journey.
They are revamping Euston Station though so lets hope its for the better!!!

How long does refurbishment go on for? Hmm, as long as a piece of string? Who knows at Euston.
I’d been through here before my recent trip & it wasn’t much to look at. Now they’ve add a few shops it’s not much better & the refurb continues.
People dashing about carelessly as if evading a predator. Haphazard retail layout. Where the hell is the signage? Never did get visual of the toilets. Couldn’t find the signs.
Dark, dingy & creepy. No wonder people move so fast – it’s to get out of this station.
Good access right off the underground & the trains were on time, so that was a plus so is the Virgin 1^st Class Lounge.

Euston is London’s major station for travelling to other parts of the country. It’s a bit old and worn compared to the likes of Kings Cross/​St. Pancras mind you. Could definitely do with a bit of a refurb at some point.
Shops-​wise you have the usual chains like WH Smith, Boots, Accessorise, Paperchase and a Marks & Spencer. Then you have a food court with Burger King, Costa, Harry Ramsdens, Cornish Pasty Company and Camden Food Company etc. I always go to Nam Po because they have a wall with plug sockets for charging your electronics. So I order some sushi and miso soup, then sit down on a stool to charge my phone.
If you’re travelling Virgin Trains First Class they have a lounge upstairs– definitely worth using as you can help yourself to tea/​coffee, drinks from the fridge, snacks, fruit etc.
It’s always incredibly crowded and everyone tends to stand staring at the departure boards as if there’s an apocalypse coming and they’re waiting for news. So it can be difficult to work your way through the crowds to get to the platforms.
I use this station when I’m travelling to/​from Manachester on Virgin Trains, sometimes they check your tickets on board but a lot of the time they have attendants checking tickets before you get on the platform, so make sure you have them ready.
There are lots of self-​collection kiosks for collecting tickets so you never really have to wait too long. Toilets you have to pay for (30p I think?) but there are plenty of cubicles and they’re always clean.

I travel to the midland quite often to see friends and family, so I have to go via London Euston all the time.
It’s a very busy station as it’s the link from London to the midlands and the north, and as it’s also an underground station it has a lot of people going in and out.
It seems to be undergoing some sort of modernisation at the moment, which can only be a good thing I guess.
It’s a little drab and dreary but hopefully that will all be changing soon.

The trick with Euston is to arrive as your train is boarding and depart as soon as you return back, spending as little time in the station as possible.
All the requisite chains here: Boots, WH Smith, Nero, Pret, et al. If you’ve got time to spare I suggest spending it at All Bar One outside the station to adhere to my point above.
My Virgin train service to/​from Manchester yesterday ran very smoothly and I was able to snag first class seats cheaper than standard on The Train Line site. Not too shabby!
They are undertaking mega refurbishment now at Euston so perhaps the future is brighter!

It’s some what telling of my work pattern of late that, even though I live in Glasgow, I’m a Unilocal Check-​Ins regular at Euston Station.
Always busy, sometimes intimidatingly so, Euston Station is the terminus for Virgin’s West Coast services as well as a number of more local routes. Although it’s a little tired looking I do appreciate the compactness of the station as well as the range of facilities available. Forgotten some toiletries? No worries because there’s a Boots and a Body Shop at hand. Need a few grocery staples? There’s a Sainsbury’s local or a Marks and Spencer Food. And a last minute Birthday card? Just pop in to Paperchase.
There’s also plenty of dining nearby covering both sit-​in (try Ed’s Diner) or take-​away. My only problem is avoiding the temptation of Millie’s Cookies. On a similar note, I’m still not sure if I’m happy or sad that Krispy Kreme has disappeared from the forecourt for the time being, while renovations are completed.
Although I do like how compact the station is, it is a problem when any serious delays occur. The main floor becomes oppressively busy very quickly with massively inadequate space for waiting and very few seats available.
The entrance to Euston underground station is also very conveniently located with the station, but watch out for busy times as the ticket hall quickly becomes over run. Definitely make sure your Oyster card is topped up ahead of time if you can!

As far as connectivity to the rest of the UK goes, Euston station is great. It’s very open plan and the signage for the trains is clear, once it shows up on the screen.
There always seems to be some work taking place here. There is currently no downward escalator service to southbound underground trains, meaning it’s pretty bad from an accessibility point of view.
I’m also struggling to find something healthy to eat, looking at the majority of the food available is giving me heartburn. Even outside where the smokers live doesn’t provide much choice. A sushi stand and possibly a burrito vendor would increase the rating to 4 stars.
There are not even close to enough seats available, so I’m currently perched on a rail outside Paperchase.
My train only cost £6 to Birmingham, so it’s not all bad.

Just passing through. A very busy thoroughfare. There is the mainline serving the north of UK, the underground and the bus station. Between the concourse and the bus station, is an open area of seating with tables and several cafes. Between the bus station and the main road, Euston Road, is a small garden, Euston Square Gardens, but it still seems very congested. The whole area is need of an overhaul, like King’s Cross and St Pancras Stations, which looks so much nicer, cleaner and brighter.

All amenities you would expect from a main line train station. Best bits: Nandos, Ed’s diner and a Virgin 1^st Class lounge!

OK, Euston Station might not be the most beautiful station in London but boy is the location handy as it is a quick walk to Kings Cross, Euston is not just a tube stop on a map but a train station (for you foreigners) which means it can get very busy indeed.
Food wise you are looking at small chains such as Burger King, Pret, Ed’s Diner, sandwich shops, fast food Chinese and French, along with a small Sainsbury’s and M&S if you want something a little healthier.
There are a few places for shopping to kill time (Accessorize, cards shops, Boots, etc) but really you should be done seeing everything in around 20 minutes.
If you are waiting ages for a train I highly recommend you go to the little square in front of the station, grab a coffee or snack and just relax indoors.

Euston Station is big, old and busy. A station to station sort of place with little room to hangout or sit down unless you use one of the coffee shops there. Here’s some tips.
1. Use the national rail website to get a heads up on your platform before it’s announced! It sure beats fighting off the hordes for a seat.
2. The Euston and Cider Taps craft beer bars are literally just outside the front entrance — love good beer, then visit these.
3. Nearby pub The Rocket will get you a cheap pint and a cheap burger — if your budget is low, check it out but it’s unlikely to be winning any Michelin stars soon.
4. The Wellcome centre of science and art galleries is just across the road. They have loads of different exhibits for free plus a really nice book shop and coffee lounge.
5. The shops and snack bars on offer are the chainiest of the chains — if you have to visit these then the best picks are Abokado (for sushi and noodles), Banger Bros for sausages in rolls and Pret for coffee.

Von der Euston Station kann man nicht nur per Zug in nördliche Orte fahren, sondern z.B. mit der Buslinie 10 oder 73 auch ganz schnell zum Oxford Circus (wenn es gerade keinen Stau gibt). Der Bahnhof selbst ist nichts Besonders.

Der Bahnhof ist durchschnittlich. Gewöhnlich unglaublich beschäftigt, aber dann wieder, ist wie in London! Definitiv Besuch der King’s Road, die eine U-​Bahnfahrt entfernt!

Euston Station ist ein Fernbahnhof im Norden Londons in der Nähe der Bahnhöfe King’s Cross und St. Pancras. Hier fahren Züge von Virgin Trains sowie First ScotRail (Nachtzug Caledonian Sleeper nach Glasgow).
Die gesamte Architektur des Bahnhofs ist offensichtlich aus den 1960ern und 70ern, wobei die Inneneinrichtung schon etwas in die Jahre gekommen ist. Es gibt die üblichen Geschäfte (M&S, Boots, Pret á Manger). Es besteht eine Umsteigemöglichkeit zum Bus (mit riesigem Busbahnhof vor dem Bahnhof) und zur Tube (Victoria und Northern Lines; in kurzer Entfernung auch Hammersmith and City, Metropolitan und Circle Line (Euston Square)).
