Ive been eating at Food For Thought for many years. A little family run café, makes all home prepared food and is very good quality and fairly priced. Coffee is awesome! I love their hot pasta dishes, Italian focaccia sandwiches, salad plates and freshly squeezed juices.

Came in for a little breakfast while running errands. They have a large selection of café style meals, mostly sandwiches, omelets, jacket potatoes, english breakfast variations etc. On the sign outside it advertised itself as a café with an italian twist. The only thing I noticed(mind you I was blindingly hungry) was a few different hot pasta dish options chalked on the wall but still the food on display looked fresh. Ordered the omelet with ham, mushrooms, onion and cheese. It’s served with a salad and it was delicious. The portions were big and there was a cole slaw as part of the salad that made it extra tasty. When I was served my plate the chef brought it out with a container of oil and vinegar for my salad… but it only had an open spout dispenser on top so I had to plug the hole with my thumb to shake the ingredients together… how many other people have fingered my dressing??? eh vinegar is antiseptic right? right? The service was friendly and the tables were clean. That’s enough for a local café.

Food for Thought? More like Food to Cure the Worst Hangover Ever! There’s nothing better than a fry-up the morning after a heavy night out. I remember reading somewhere that some scientists discovered that fat plus protein equals great hangover cure, which explains why I was craving a full English this morning after Friday night’s excesses. That’s what I’ll tell myself anyway… Food for Thought is a colourful little café with a conscience. It’s biggest selling point is the use of free-range ingredients, and the wide range of healthy meals on the menu, from salad boxes to jacket potatoes. I opted for the slightly less healthy but much-needed veggie English Breakfast, which at £3.80 was very reasonably priced and came with fried egg, hash brown, veggie sausage(consisting of potatoes, carrots and other vegetables), tomatoes, mushrooms, beans and loads of buttered toast. It was pretty bog standard, but perfect for a lazy weekend breakfast. The cappuccino was good and strong, and soon whipped me out of my hungover haze. Friendly service, fresh ingredients, and good simple café food with plenty of healthy options makes Food for Thought a firm Willesden favourite.

Food For Thought is a cute little café on Willesden High Road(it’s a 3 minute walk from Willesden Green tube station — not Dollis Hill as it says on the info at the top!) It was renovated fairly recently too, either last year or the year before, so it’s really cozy and bright looking now. The owner is super friendly and chatty and is in there serving customers himself every day. It’s nice to pop in for a sarnie and be recognized and have a little chat! Felix’s review is wrong — it’s not a veggie café and never has been!!! :) I myself have eaten a yummy lemon chicken, avocado and rocket sandwich there before… Italian chicken salad… etc. They have chicken, bacon, tuna etc on the menu… Things I have eaten there more than once that I would definitely recommend are the ‘Nick’s Feast’ jacket potato(quite a cute idea that customers can come up with their own combinations of fillings for sarnies or potatoes and get it named after them on the menu) which has LOADS of hummous, rocket, olives, sundried tomatoes, grilled aubergine and and and… I can’t remember what else is on it, but it’s big, filling and yummy. The salad boxes are a good deal — for £2 you get a box with a selection of salads — all the usual lettuce, tomato etc, then whatever else they have there, depending on the day — olives, grilled aubergine, sundried tomatoes, potato salad, pasta salad, hummous etc. For £3 you can also add chicken. The make a decent cup of coffee — not the best in the world, but by no means bad. The homemade lemon cake is also DELICIOUS and only £1 for a big chunk of a slice. A cheap and cheerful, clean and friendly little place that is an asset to the neighbourhood. They also do catering, here’s their website for more info:

True story this, check it! I was walking past and this annoying American woman was complaining about the lack of vegetarian food shops in London — right in front of this lil’ veggie eaterie. She realised before I could point this out for her. And it’s really good — cheap food but nicely thought out, clearly not standard dishes finding their way around not having any meat in them. There was a big queue when I was here and apparently, it’s been around since the 70’s. The desserts… It’s pretty small but you can sit in and get get takeaways — reminds me of the proper Bristol veggie restaurants I used to frequent. So, nice.
